"Look! They're not much to look at in leafbare, but those look like the pink flowers I saw in my vision. And over there—can you see those spiky rocks at the bottom of the cliff? They were in my dream, too."

Chapter description[]

The cats continue to follow the gull away from the lake and toward a summit. As they reach the top, they see the sun-drown-place, and Ivypool marvels at it. Whistlepaw points out different things from her dream while Ivypool leads the group down toward the shore. They meet a black-and-white tom, who threatens the group for intruding on his territory, though he backs off when he sees he is outnumbered. He introduces himself as Jake, though he mentions that his parents never named him, and that he got the name Jake from Twolegs. He warns them about crabs, explaining that they can easily injure a cat, before darting off.
They continue on, and Icewing points out that they have not eaten yet. They struggle to find prey, and Rootspring suggests stealing from the nearby Twolegs, until a fish falls from the sky and lands near them. Icewing catches it and begins to eat, which prompts the others to join in. A seagull flies down at them, intent on retaking its prey, and a flock of the birds soon swarms the group. They flee from the birds, but when they stop they are further startled by one of the rocks moving. They run after realizing it is likely one of the crabs Jake warned them about, heading toward the fox-head mountain again. The group decides to shelter in a small cave when gulls begin to swarm them again, and decide to stay until the large birds have left.
