Chapter description[]
- Ivypool, Dovewing, Icewing, Rootspring, and Whistlepaw scatter as the Twoleg comes closer. While they hide, Whistlepaw explains how she feels the wildcats are important, and Ivypool mirrors her concern. They watch the Twoleg and his dog as the two taunt the captive animals with food. Ivypool and Whistlepaw rejoin the others and explain what they saw, much to the dismay of the Clan cats. Ivypool tells them that she wants to rescue Stalk Purr and Tumble Leap; while Dovewing is sympathetic, both her and Icewing argue against the idea, as their quest needs to be completed and they do not believe the wildcats are involved. Whistlepaw looks down, miserable, and explains that they may have been sent by the wildcats' ancestors instead of StarClan.
- Dovewing expresses more doubt, as they have never heard of StormClan before, but Whistlepaw insists that the symbol the wildcats recognized is from her dream. Icewing attempts to soothe Whistlepaw by explaining that they all trust her, but they need more information before. They decide to find the tree Stalk Purr described in the hopes of finding more wildcats, and leave the Twoleg den behind. The group travels through the woods, and come upon a series of small waterfalls. They cross the stream, and discover the clearing with the burned-out tree standing in the middle. They move closer to investigate, until weasels burst from the trunk, startling the cats.
