Chapter description[]

Weasels begin to overwhelm the journeying cats. Ivypool and her companions fight with the animals, and Ivypool initially worries as she sees Whistlepaw joining in the battle. She watches Whistlepaw lure the weasels to Rootspring and Dovewing, allowing the warriors to deal with them, and the five cats band together to force the attackers back. Once the weasels flee, Ivypool praises Whistlepaw for her courage, and the medicine cat apprentice checks everyone for wounds.
All five cats go to investigate the tree, and Whistlepaw explains that Stalk Purr told her the wildcat elders went inside the trunk to speak with their ancestors. They search for a way in, and find a gap near a large branch. Rootspring expresses worry about jumping down into an unknown void, and Whistlepaw offers to go herself. Dovewing stays behind, and the rest of the cats begin to climb. Whistlepaw jumps down into the tree first, and calls back to the others that there is soft moss and leaves at the bottom. The others follow, though they cannot see much in the darkness. Ivypool looks around, seeing the space is larger than they initially thought.
Ivypool asks what they are supposed to do now. Whistlepaw explains how medicine cats behave at the Moonpool and Icewing suggests everyone thinks of something relating to their Clan. While Ivypool doubts this idea, they all attempt it regardless, and she focuses on a recent storm that threatened the Clans. The next time she opens her eyes, she is surprised to see healthy wood where there was once scorched bark. The others wake, equally amazed, and Whistlepaw explains that they are likely having a shared vision in the wildcats' version of StarClan. They leave the tree to find themselves in a younger, more verdant version of the clearing.
