Chapter description[]
- Squirrelstar leads ThunderClan towards the island on the night of the emergency Gathering Harestar requested after the medicine cats met at the Moonpool to discuss Whistlepaw's dream. Squirrelstar had explained to Ivypool that both Alderheart and Jayfeather believed there was danger coming to the Clans, though Ivypool struggled to understand in the face of her grief. They see WindClan cats as they pass the horseplace, and as Harestar and Squirrelstar mount the Great Oak, Tigerstar and ShadowClan enter the clearing. SkyClan follows them, and once Leafstar has joined the other leaders, the Gathering begins.
- Harestar explains that he called the Gathering to discuss Whistlepaw's vision, though Leafstar asks if they should be waiting for RiverClan to arrive. Several cats express concerns related to Splashtail's leadership, but before it goes much further, Kestrelflight asks his apprentice to tell the Clans of her vision. Whistlepaw describes standing on top of a cliff during a storm, hearing kits crying for help while a tom attempted to rescue them. She felt his guilt as other cats called him away, and they started towards a mountain with a top like a fox's head. Tigerstar interjects, as he knows the mountain she is describing, having seen it on his and Dovewing's return to the Clans. Whistlepaw continues to explain, drawing out the strange image she saw in the sky, and how she had been blown off the cliff and into a forest.
- In the forest, she found herself inside of a burned-out tree before Mistystar appeared. Mistystar delivered a message, before the stream ran red with blood. As she speaks, the other cats are shocked and concerned, and Ivypool wonders if anything could be worse than the current problems in RiverClan. Kestrelflight explains that he called the medicine cat meeting because of this dream, as the cats of StarClan told them all that they did not send the omen. Jayfeather snarks that StarClan finally knows how the rest of them feel, and Ivypool holds back a laugh. Hawkwing expresses concern as Kestrelflight adds more of what StarClan said: that some of the older spirits felt something familiar about the dream but could not remember the details. Tallstar reminded them that not every Clan remains part of StarClan, much like SkyClan had after being exiled from the forest, as they may have chosen to forget it.
- Harestar suggests that a small group of cats search for the place from her vision, much to the dismay of the others in attendance. Several argue against the idea, but Whistlepaw is confident in her vision. It gives Ivypool a strange sense of hope, leaving her to wonder if there could be the chance for Bristlefrost to rejoin the ranks of StarClan. It is decided that each Clan will send a representative, specifically the Lights in the Mist, though Dovewing adamantly refuses to allow Shadowsight to leave. She then offers to go herself, as Birchkit is now weaned. Ivypool offers to go as well, excited as it may help her feel closer to Bristlefrost. Rootspring and Whistlepaw also volunteer, and Harestar decides to travel to RiverClan to ask them for a representative himself.
