Chapter description[]
- The wildcat leaders leave Icewing and Ivypool alone. Icewing is furious at their refusal to believe herself and Ivypool, and while Ivypool is equally frustrated, she understands their reasoning. The two she-cats decide to try again in the morning, but Ivypool struggles to sleep as she worries about Stalk Purr and Tumble Leap. She manages to doze off, but quickly wakes when she scents foxes, and alerts the entire camp to the invasion. Icewing, Ivypool, and the wildcats fight the foxes off, with Ivypool flinging herself at the one trying to attack Hop Scratch. Both Hop Scratch and Claw Stretch thank Ivypool profusely as the fight dies down.
- The wildcats reveal that the foxes moved into the forest around a moon prior, but they have never attacked like this. Prowl Sleek approaches Ivypool and Icewing, apologizing for not believing the two she-cats. Icewing explains that they would never stand by and watch anyone get hurt, and Prowl Sleek announces her group's newfound trust in the Clan cats. She declares that they will teach Ivypool and Icewing to commune with their ancestors come morning.
- Ivypool sleeps well into the day, and once she wakes, her and Icewing meet with Prowl Sleek, Hunt Growl, and Spring Claw. The elders lead them away from the camp and back into the forest, toward a clearing containing a spring and stream. Spring Claw calls on the wildcat ancestors to speak with them, requesting advice on what to do with the information the Clan cats have given. The three cats go stiff, and when Prowl Sleek speaks again, her voice is no longer her own. The ancestors speak through the elders, and decide the lost wildcats should make the journey, before telling the Clan cats that there is more they must know.
