"I wasn't here. I was kind of everywhere, I suppose. I was part of the wind, the grass, the trees...everything. I wasn't watching over the Clans like StarClan does, but I was...aware of them. It was sort of...wonderful."

Chapter description[]

After Galestar's accusation, the ghostly cats begin to solidify, and Tallstar explains that they are returning due to being remembered once more. Windstar points out several cats, though Ivypool watches as Galestar stiffens upon seeing Stripestar return. Ivypool asks where he and the other cats were, but he hesitantly explains that he was everywhere, in a sense. His statement fills Ivypool with hope, and she wonders if Bristlefrost may have survived in some form after all. She goes to speak with Icewing, wanting to tell her that Beetlewhisker may not be completely lost, but the RiverClan cat stares at Stripestar with the same spike of hope upon hearing his words.
Galestar confronts Stripestar, snarling that he deserved to go to the Dark Forest after abandoning her and their kits, and for a few moments Ivypool fears that the two will fight. Stripestar, horrified, explains that he still loves Galestar, and that he had to lead the rest of their Clan to safety. He returned after the storm but assumed they were all dead, and mourned them for the rest of his life. Galestar softens at that and explains that she and their kits survived and were rescued by wildcats. She explains that she fell in love with Bound Hunt, which hurts Stripestar. As they speak, more forms solidify around the cats, crowding Galestar and offering their apologies for the entire ordeal.
Thunderstar watches this and asks how they could have forgotten an entire Clan. Windstar suggests that they may have wanted to forget, as they could not influence the Clans enough to stay as they were. Ivypool, Icewing, and the other StarClan cats realize that StormClan's wisdom will be needed to save RiverClan, and, by extension, all the Clans. Icewing worries over Whistlepaw's vision of the river, but Riverstar warns them to hurry back to the lake as the cats of StarClan fade.
