Kite is a pregnant loner who travels to River Ripple's group so her unborn kits can have a better life. However, she begins to give birth once she arrives in their territory, and River Ripple and Shattered Ice find her. Shattered Ice fetches Dappled Pelt, who guides Kite through her birth. She gives birth to three kits: Trout Fur, Willow Stream, and Snow Tail. She asks River Ripple if she and her new family can join their group, and River Ripple and his campmates warmly welcome them. Kite takes to hunting in the river naturally, and she insists on catching prey to contribute to the group. After Slash's former rogues agree to change their names, Kite changes her name to Kite Wing.

Seasons later, Kite Wing fishes with Snow Tail and Croak. Later, Riverstar asks Kite Wing and Mist to gather willow stems to build a nursery for Finch. She later shares tongues with her three kits while chatting with Finch. At the Gathering, Kite Wing and several other warriors goad SkyClan. Kite Wing later participates in the battle against SkyClan, and she chases the SkyClan warriors into the river with Hollow and Dew. Kite Wing helps to shove the tree-bridge into the river to prevent SkyClan from returning to their territory.
