This page contains Leafpool's personality and relationships. It contains conjecture due to being based off of general novel themes, and all statements must be sourced.
Personality[]
- Leafpool is quiet, attentive,[1] fiercely loyal, and devoted to keeping secrets, though she struggles with immense guilt as a result.[2] Though hardly apathetic, Leafpool maintains consistent self control.[3] She is empathetic,[4] compassionate, and concerned for the other Clans, even willing to act without the permission of her leader.[5] Moreover, she is determined and brave, setting aside her fear to serve her Clan.[6]
Relationships[]
Squirrelstar[]
- Leafpool: "You said you were going to be Clan leader. We were going to rule the whole forest and be the most powerful cats who ever lived."
- Squirrelflight: "We were very young."
- Squirrelflight's Hope, chapter 28
- Since they were kits, Squirrelstar and Leafpool shared a special connection that allowed them to know what the other was feeling.[7] She is willing to cover up her sister's mischief and is deeply hurt when she lies to her.[8] When Squirrelpaw left on the journey to the sun-drown-place, Leafpaw was miserable with worry for Squirrelpaw, almost wishing she had stopped her, and could not imagine living without her.[9] During Squirrelpaw's absence, Leafpaw felt lonely and confused with no one to confide in.[10]

Firestar and Sandstorm[]
- Though Leafpaw promised Squirrelpaw that she wouldn't tell the Clan about their journey to find Midnight, using her connection with Squirrelpaw, Leafpaw gave her father hope by affirming that Squirrelpaw was alive.[11] During the destruction of the forest territories, Leafpaw sympathized with her father's frustration and hopelessness, though she feared that he would be angry with her if she revealed that Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw were on a mission from StarClan after withholding the truth for so long.[10]

Cinderpelt[]
- "Wherever you are, Cinderpelt, if you can hear me, I promise that I will never leave our Clan again. I am their medicine cat now, and I will follow in your pawsteps until it's my turn to walk with StarClan. But please, if I ever meant anything to you, come to me when you can and tell me you forgive me."
- ―Leafpool's grief after Cinderpelt's death Sunset, page 60
- During the destruction of the forest, Leafpaw gave up her prey to Cinderpelt so that she might have the strength to heal their weakened Clan.[15] Cinderpelt tried to hide her anxieties about the turmoil from Leafpaw, and Leafpaw believed that Cinderpelt would always maintain her faith in StarClan, but her mentor's despair and helplessness caused Leafpaw much grief.[6]

Mothwing[]
- «Leafpaw stared at her friend in amazement. She was so strong and beautiful, she had all of a warrior’s skills as well as the chance to learn those of a medicine cat, but she was still afraid that she would never belong in the forest.»
- —Leafpaw upon meeting Mothwing Midnight (book), page 183
- However, Leafpaw soon began to suspect that Mothwing and Hawkfrost were Tigerstar's kits, causing Leafpaw to be somewhat wary of her.[11] Mothwing's inexperience as a medicine cat lead her to be shown up by Leafpaw, who saved Reedpaw from drowning. Leafpaw comforted Mothwing, but troubled by her Clanmate's doubts, Mothwing expressed to Leafpaw how lucky she was to be Clanborn and the daughter of the Clan leader. Moreover, Leafpaw was alarmed that Mothwing expected her brother, Hawkfrost, to speak poorly about her to the rest of RiverClan.[17] Later, when Mothwing was forced to encourage Hawkfrost that Twolegs would weaken ThunderClan enough for RiverClan to take over their territory to prevent him from taking Sorreltail to Leopardstar, she worried that Leafpaw would no longer be her friend. Leafpaw affirmed their friendship, and Mothwing demonstrated enough trust in Leafpaw to confirm that Tigerstar was her father.[18]

Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather[]
- «Leafpool battled the urge to cover up her kits with her body, protect them from snow, rain, hail, badgers, foxes, anything that might harm one hair on their pelts ... Whatever she felt, however many regrets in the future held, the only thing that mattered was creating the best life for these three perfect babies.»

Sorreltail[]
- «There was a strange ache in her heart, half joy and half sorrow. She was happy for Sorreltail, but she envied her too. She and Brackenfur had entered a private world where a medicine cat could never follow.»
