Chapter description[]
- Reflecting on the work she had assigned her Clanmates to, Leopardfur thinks that she needs to show Mosspelt and Frogleap that she is unbothered by their bond. She asks Mosspelt to accompany her back to the Twoleg to steal more fish, and Mosspelt reluctantly agrees, hoping to impress Frogleap. When they arrive, they observe the Twoleg until it leaves to enter its den. The two she-cats hurry to grab a fish from the container, but the Twoleg returns with a web and captures Mosspelt, and Leopardfur runs back to camp to get help. In camp, she informs Crookedstar of what happened, feeling ashamed. Frogleap confronts her and tells her that Mosspelt is having his kits, to her dismay. She decides to save Mosspelt, and Crookedstar tells her to take Voleclaw and Cedarpelt, not letting Frogleap go.
- At the river, they hear Mosspelt yowling. Leopardfur tells them that they can sneak into the den under the wall, and when the Twoleg leaves its den to go to its monster, they rush inside. They find Mosspelt still trapped in the webbing, and, telling Cedarpelt to watch for the Twoleg, Leopardfur chews through the threads while Voleclaw helps Mosspelt get untangled. Just as Leopardfur successfully chews through and starts helping Mosspelt out, Cedarpelt says that the Twoleg is coming, and Leopardfur gets her claws stuck. She manages to get free, as does Mosspelt, and the cats flee the den as the Twoleg returns, and Leopardfur claws the Twoleg's hand to fend it off before escaping. The cats flee until they have lost the Twoleg, and Leopardfur sees that Mosspelt is injured and apologizes.
- When they return to camp, Frogleap and Lakeshine greet them, and Frogleap takes Mosspelt to the medicine den. Leopardfur follows, feeling guilty, and checks on Mosspelt while Mudfur treats her. Frogleap turns on Leopardfur for taking Mosspelt to the Twoleg, but Mosspelt defends and praises Leopardfur for saving her. As Leopardfur leaves, Mudfur expresses happiness that she is safe, and she recognizes that he cares for her. She reflects on the risk she had taken, concluding that it was because RiverClan would deal with leaf-bare soon, and that she needs to convince Crookedstar to win back Sunningrocks and get rid of ShadowClan.
