Chapter description[]
- Leopardfur thinks about how Crookedstar has been organizing the camp repairs, and she reflects on how difficult it has been to find prey and how helpful Fireheart and Graystripe have been. She emerges from the warriors' den and hears Vixenleap and Emberdawn discussing the Gathering the night prior, and she joins them in debating ThunderClan's decision to shelter Brokenstar. They note the Clans' anger and that StarClan never broke up the Gathering, with Leopardfur recalling how Crookedstar supported ThunderClan when Nightstar would not allow them to return home by their usual route. They wonder about Fireheart and Graystripe's true intentions in hunting for them.
- Leopardfur leads a patrol to collect prey from Fireheart and Graystripe, but the two toms do not show up, and they decide to hunt. Silverstream holds Leopardfur back and asks if she stopped them from coming, and Leopardfur says that she did not. She encourages Silverstream to forget about Graystripe, but Silverstream reveals that she is expecting his kits. Outraged and worried, Leopardfur warns her about the possibility of war over the kits and questions how she will raise them, and tells her not to tell anyone who the father is. When Silverstream refuses, Leopardfur angrily tells her to go to ThunderClan, and she agrees, causing the deputy to panic and promise not to tell anyone and to leave it to Silverstream to sort out.
