"It is a sign. StarClan gives our prey to us, and StarClan can take it away. We should give thanks to our warrior ancestors that we are able to eat at all. They provide every mouthful as well as our ability to hunt and feed ourselves. From the next Gathering, there will be an addition to the warrior code. Prey must be killed only to be eaten, and we must give thanks to StarClan for its life. This is the way of the warrior." |

Lilystar is a pale gray she-cat.[2]
In Code of the Clans, Lilystar is an ancient ShadowClan leader. She scolds Driftkit and Fallowkit for playing with the last piece of fresh-kill on the fresh-kill pile and explains to them that the prey died so that they could live, and that they shouldn't treat it as a toy. Suddenly, an owl swoops down, and all the cats bolt for safety except for Driftkit, who is too terrified to move. But, to Lilystar's astonishment, the owl doesn't take Driftkit, but rather takes the mouse in front of him. Lilystar interprets it as a sign from StarClan; that they can give them their prey, and take it away. She later introduces law four of the warrior code: "Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life. This is the way of the warrior."
