"I know what it's like to have a power no other cat understands. It's the loneliest feeling in the world."
— Lionblaze thinking about his power in The Fourth Apprentice, page 148

Lionblaze is a broad-shouldered,[6] muscular,[7] golden-brown tabby tom[8] with amber eyes[9] the color of the sun.[10] He has thick fur,[11] thick fluff ringing around his neck,[12] a nicked ear,[13] and massive,[14] pale paws[15] with fur that bunches at his claws.[16]

He is born as Lionkit to Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, along with his two siblings, Jaykit and Hollykit. He is a strong willed fighter, who is apprenticed to Ashfur, earning him the name Lionpaw. Lionpaw is very protective of his siblings, primarily Jaypaw due to his blindness.

As an apprentice, he becomes very close with Heatherpaw of WindClan, whom he develops feelings for after meeting her at night. They create DarkClan, an imaginary Clan that inhabits the tunnels in between WindClan and ThunderClan territory. In his dreams, he begins to train with Tigerstar and Hawkfrost, unaware of them being in the Dark Forest. They promise to make him be a stronger warrior, and he trains with them for nights on end to improve his battle skills. Overtime, his sister Hollypaw discovers that he's meeting with Heatherpaw, and becomes furious. She tells him to cut off Heatherpaw, and with the influence of his sister and Tigerstar and Hawkfrost, he does so, ending the affair. Heatherpaw is betrayed and hurt that he is leaving her, but lets him leave. He and his siblings, along with Breezepaw and Heatherpaw end up back in the tunnels to rescue lost WindClan kits. This makes Heatherpaw agree that they cannot continue to meet due to the discovery of the tunnels and the danger of them, thus ending their relationship.

He and his siblings are chosen to go to the mountains to escort Brook and Stormfur home. While in the mountains, he fights off the Tribe's intruders and comes out completely unharmed, though covered in blood. After this, Jaypaw reveals the Kin of Your Kin prophecy, telling him and Hollypaw that they have the power of the stars in their paws and that they're destined to be stronger than StarClan. It becomes apparent that Lionpaw's power is that he cannot be defeated in battle.

Sedgekit, one of the kits Lionpaw helped rescue, tells WindClan about the secret tunnels, leading WindClan to surprise an attack on ThunderClan that quickly becomes all four Clans fighting. An eclipse, that Sol predicted, stops the fight. Lionpaw automatically assumes that Heatherpaw betrayed him and was the one who revealed the secret of the tunnels, and quickly vows to try and kill her. He attacks Heatherpaw, and when she tries to tell him that it wasn't her, he refuses to believe her. He almost kills her, but stops himself, letting her go. After leaving her, he nearly kills Crowfeather in his fit of rage, and is only stopped when Heatherpaw intervenes. When the eclipse disrupts the fighting, he vows to never forget Heatherpaw's betrayal.

Angered and confused, Lionpaw starts to dream of him killing Heatherpaw, which terrifies him greatly. Jaypaw convinces him and Hollypaw that Sol knows answers to the prophecy, and they seek him out. However, Sol soon abandons them after they get caught by a ShadowClan patrol, and he leaves with Blackstar after discussing the validity of StarClan. In a dream, he kills Heatherpaw, but realizes that he doesn't want to keep being enemies with her. He earns his Warrior name and becomes Lionblaze, along with his sister, Hollyleaf, and their denmate Cinderheart.

Even after earning his Warrior name, Lionblaze is convinced he could still use more battle practice to be prepared. He keeps having horrible nightmares where he kills Heatherpaw, despite him forgiving her. Tigerstar reveals that he is behind the dreams, telling him that all traitors deserve to die. This enforces his fears, and when Jaypaw asks him to fetch catmint from WindClan, he is terrified of betraying the Warrior Code. He caves in eventually, and while there he meets Heatherpaw, now Heathertail, who is very aware that he had intent to kill her.

Shortly after, a fire breaks out in ThunderClan's camp, where Ashfur traps him and his littermates in an attempt to kill them. Squirrelflight saves their lives by revealing the truth that Lionblaze and his siblings are not her kits, and that she was just fostering them. Shocked by the news, Ashfur lets them go, but vows to reveal her secret to get revenge on her for breaking his heart. The siblings are thrown into turmoil by this threat, and when he later shows up dead, Lionblaze feels guilty that he feels no grief due to him and Ashfur not being very close, despite being his mentor.

Lionblaze gets in a fight with Tigerstar, and nearly kills him a second time. Though scared, Tigerstar mocks saying that Lionblaze wouldn't do it, and Lionblaze responds by saying Tigerstar is already dead. This ends his relationship with the Dark Forest.

When it is discovered that his biological parents are Leafpool and Crowfeather, Lionblaze is pleased to know he is still a part of the prophecy, and in a fit of desperation, helps Sol escape when ThunderClan holds him prisoner. Sol refuses to hold up his end of the bargain, and he ultimately gives up. Distraught by the knowledge of her parents, Hollyleaf announces at the Gathering who their real parents are, and Jayfeather and Lionblaze have to try and talk her down from leaving the Clans once she realizes her mistake. They fail, and she runs into the tunnels which collapse behind her. They force themselves to believe the truth that she may be dead, and they report back to their Clan that she died chasing a squirrel. Lost on who the third cat in the prophecy now may be, they turn to Dovekit and Ivykit, Cloudtail's grandchildren.

When Dovekit is apprenticed, Lionblaze becomes her mentor and quickly discovers that she is the third cat of the prophecy. He goes with her to unblock the stream leading to the lake during a drought because her extraordinary hearing reveals there are beavers blocking it. When they return, Jayfeather informs them both that the Dark Forest is rising, and that Breezepelt is being trained by Brokenstar. The brothers predict that the prophecy will be a battle between StarClan and the Dark Forest.

He accidentally kills Russetfur while saving Firestar from her. He is deeply troubled by this, as he had no intention to kill her but her frailness gave away. Brambleclaw tries to comfort him, telling him that it wasn't his fault and that Russetfur was too old and frail to be fighting anyways, but this makes Lionblaze feel worse. Cinderheart attempts to make him feel better by going for walks with him at night to help ease his nightmares, and they start to grow close. They both confess that they love each other, but when Lionblaze reveals he's apart of a prophecy, Cinderheart becomes distraught and convinced they shouldn't be together. This is further enforced when she realizes she holds Cinderpelt's spirit within her.

Before the Great Battle he reconciles with his foster mother, Squirrelflight, forgiving her and insisting that she was a good mother. During the battle, Breezepelt mocks Hollyleaf's death, and then attempts to kill Lionblaze, saying that they should never have been born. His father, Crowfeather saves him, and Crowfeather scolds Breezepelt for being so coldhearted. After the battle, he is seen grieving heavily for his sister and Clan leader, Firestar.

He loses his power of invincibility after the Great Battle, and becomes mates with Cinderheart, fathering his first litter. He names his kits Hollykit, Fernkit and Sorrelkit, after those lost in the Great Battle. He comes on terms with Breezepelt after he helps his half-brother fight off Stoats, as well as accepting Crowfeather as his biological father, but holds Bramblestar as his true father as the ThunderClan leader raised him. He later fathers a second litter with Cinderheart, Spotkit, Flykit, and Snapkit, and eventually becomes a grandfather to Flipkit, Bristlekit, and Thriftkit.

Crowfeather's Trial

Crowfeather thinks back to the Great Battle with the Dark Forest, when he had to stop Breezepelt from killing Lionblaze.
He is also mentioned by Onestar, saying that even although Lionblaze is also Crowfeather's son, he is a ThunderClan cat. Onestar says that Crowfeather should pay attention to Breezepelt, who is in WindClan.
When Crowfeather notices that Heathertail isn't paying attention to his scolding and is thanking Breezepelt from saving her from the stoats, he remembers when they were apprentices and she was padding after the ThunderClan tom. Crowfeather thinks that he is grateful that their friendship fizzled out.
Lionblaze gives Breezepelt a suspicious look during the Gathering. Berrynose mentions the fact that Breezepelt tried to kill Lionblaze during the Great Battle to make it more evident that he was responsible for Nightcloud's death.
Bramblestar suggests that the two Clans work together to drive out the stoats, since the creatures were living in the tunnels that borders both of the Clans. Lionblaze protests, questioning how they could trust WindClan when he was almost killed by a WindClan cat, Breezepelt. Onestar tells him that he has forgiven Breezepelt and that he has come back as a loyal WindClan cat. Lionblaze retorts that he's loyal to his Clan, but that doesn’t mean he follows the rest of the warrior code. He doesn't believe that Breezepelt will not attack him again.
During the battle with the stoats, Lionblaze falls and is overwhelmed beneath a swarm of stoats. Terrified for his son, Crowfeather tries to fight them off but fails. Breezepelt appears seemingly from nowhere and kills two of the stoats that were on top of Lionblaze, allowing him to get on his paws again. He and Breezepelt stare at each other uncomfortably and resume battling the stoats. After the battle is over, Crowfeather notices that Lionblaze is limping. Lionblaze thanks Breezepelt for saving his life and questions why he did it. Breezepelt replies that fighting for the Dark Forest was wrong, and he should be loyal to every Clan cat. Lionblaze accepts Breezepelt's explanation and tells him he was glad to fight alongside him.
A patrol goes out following the battle to make sure all the stoats had left the tunnels consisting of Crowfeather, Harespring, Nightcloud, Cloudtail, and Lionblaze. Crowfeather falls behind to talk to his ThunderClan son. He apologizes to Lionblaze for the way he treated him and wishes that he could have been a better father to him growing up. He asks for Lionblaze's forgiveness. Lionblaze's eyes flash with disbelief and he tells Crowfeather that it doesn't matter now since he's a full grown warrior, and that he doesn't need to be Crowfeather's kit. He claims Bramblestar was the only father he knew growing up and he doesn't need another one. When Crowfeather feels the pain of rejection, Lionblaze tells him that he isn't angry with him and accepts his apology. Crowfeather accepts that they will never have a father-son relationship, but can respect each other as Clan cats.
At the next Gathering, Rowanclaw snaps that the Dark Forest cats who had fought in the battle against the stoats have a lot to do before any cat can trust them again. Lionblaze stands up to Rowanclaw and defends the cats who had trained in the Dark Forest, claiming they were tricked and thought they were doing it to become better warriors. He announces that Breezepelt saved his life in the battle against the stoats and that he has forgiven him for attacking him in the battle against the Dark Forest. Lionblaze tells Rowanclaw that if he can forgive Breezepelt, then Rowanclaw can forgive the Dark Forest cats too. Crowfeather feels proud of Lionblaze and thinks that he is a strong, straightforward, and generous cat. He feels proud to call the strong warrior kin.
In the manga at the end of the book, Crowfeather and Breezepelt see a ThunderClan patrol on top of a hill. Lionblaze is the only cat that takes notice of them and dips his head respectfully towards his WindClan kin before joining back up with the patrol.

Bramblestar's Storm

He is seen complaining about a tree branch hitting him on the head and Cinderheart tells him he has to get used to his powers being gone.

In the Power of Three arc

The Sight

Lionkit is the son of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, and the brother of Jaykit and Hollykit. Lionkit is a particularly good hunter and fighter, just as Hollykit has leadership qualities above the normal level, and Jaykit can see in dreams, even though he is blind when awake. It is noted that he is very protective of his brother and sister.
When a dead fox is found on the territory, the patrol says that there are probably cubs nearby, and another patrol is sent to chase them out. Lionkit and his siblings beg to go along with them, but Brambleclaw says that they are too young. To cheer them up, he says that they can help Ashfur guard the camp. His brother, Jaykit, convinces them that Brambleclaw was trying to please them and that Ashfur did not need help. He then persuades Hollykit and Jaykit to come with him and chase out the cubs. He leads his siblings through the dirtplace to avoid being seen. When they do find the cubs, they are surprised to see they are much bigger than they are. Lionkit and his siblings flee, and Jaykit accidentally falls over the edge of the camp wall. He gets seriously injured, but he lives. It is also mentioned that he and Hollykit have to stand in the center of the camp for everybody to stare while his brother Jaykit stayed in the medicine cat den.
After meeting a WindClan apprentice named Heatherpaw at a Gathering, Lionpaw develops a strong liking for her. Because of this, Lionpaw gets jealous when Heatherpaw shows concern for Lionpaw's brother, Jaypaw. During the dog chase in WindClan's territory, Lionpaw fears for Heatherpaw's safety. He rescues her from a dog after she gets stuck in a rabbit hole, attacking the canine fiercely and almost chasing it after it flees.
Lionpaw is in the patrol that discovers ShadowClan moved the border, and he is the one to run and get help. Lionpaw also fights alongside his Clanmates and worries over his brother and sister.
At the daytime Gathering of which his mother suggests, Lionpaw and Breezepaw of WindClan hunt in a competition against each other. But as they hunt for the same squirrel, the ground beneath them collapses and the badger den on top of them does as well. As Breezepaw's and his mouths are filled with soil, Jaypaw and Crowfeather dig them out and save them, due to Jaypaw having a vision of the two cats suffocating. Jaypaw is told at the end of the competition he was the hero cat of the day.

Dark River

He starts to show more affection for Heatherpaw, and sneaks out of camp at night regularly to see her. He is found doing so by Hollypaw and Cinderpaw, and stops until Heatherpaw discovers the hidden forgotten tunnels connecting ThunderClan and WindClan territory. In the tunnels, they create DarkClan, their fantasy Clan. Heatherpaw becomes the leader, Heatherstar, while Lionpaw becomes Lionclaw, her deputy.
Tigerstar and Hawkfrost, two Place of No Stars inhabitants, appear to him and start to teach him complicated warrior moves. Lionpaw agrees to this while his brother Jaypaw has declined earlier. He, in turn, teaches the moves to Heatherpaw, angering Hawkfrost, who accuses him of being a traitor for teaching attacks to an enemy.
Lionpaw soon realizes that he cannot be loyal to his Clan and be friends with Heatherpaw as well. He explains this to her, and even though she's hurt, she lets him go.
When the three WindClan kits, Sedgekit, Thistlekit, and Swallowkit go missing, he goes with Jaypaw, Hollypaw, Breezepaw, and Heatherpaw through the tunnels to find them. They almost die because of the rising floodwater, but escape by jumping in the river and letting it carry them out into the lake. Heatherpaw tells him that they can't continue meeting because they are the ones who started the problem with the tunnels and the kits finding them.

Outcast

Lionpaw complains that he can do any of the training moves that the rest of the apprentices can, and that his training could be more advanced. Ashfur obliges and starts a vicious battle. Both cats fight hard, and before long they start drawing blood from each other until Brackenfur, shocked, tears them apart, and Ashfur tells Lionpaw that he fought like a warrior. Lionpaw and Stormfur grow a close bond one day talking after Lionpaw loses his temper with Berrynose, who has become snobby.
Lionpaw later travels to the mountains with his siblings to help the Tribe fight the battle against the invaders. During the trip, he, Breezepaw, and Hollypaw go into an abandoned Twoleg nest, to hunt for prey without telling Jaypaw. They are attacked by dogs, and later saved by Purdy, the loner who led the original six questing cats through the Twolegplace in Midnight.
During their stay with the Tribe of Rushing Water, Lionpaw helps his sister and Breezepaw train the to-bes by teaching them battle moves. The to-bes are reluctant to learn though, saying Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Breezepaw are "just to-bes like us!"
Before the battle against the intruders, he, Breezepaw, Hollypaw, and the to-be, Pebble, climbed down a hole in the roof of the invader's cave, and scare them out into the open, where they could fight an even battle. In the battle, he fights easily, not receiving a single injury, though when he returns to the Cave of Rushing Water, he is covered in blood, which is later found not to be his own, but the invaders'.
At the end of the book, Jaypaw tells Lionpaw and Hollypaw of the prophecy he learned from Firestar's dreams: There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws. Lionpaw's power is also revealed - the power that he is unable to be wounded in battle.

Eclipse

Lionpaw starts talking to Hollypaw about the prophecy. While his sister is worried about the warrior code, Lionpaw isn't worried much. He continues to train with Tigerstar and Hawkfrost so he can become a better warrior. Lionpaw arrives home from the mountains and gets right back to his duties. While on a patrol, his sister finds another tunnel to WindClan, but she doesn't tell him, thinking he would use it to see Heatherpaw again. Lionpaw later finds the tunnel himself, but swears that he will not use it.
When the ThunderClan camp is attacked, Lionpaw fights hard, almost killing full-grown warriors. Soon, he joins Firestar's patrol to fight WindClan in the forest by the tunnel. When he finds out WindClan had been using the tunnels, he gets very angry and wants to kill Heatherpaw, assuming she had told her Clanmates about the tunnels, after she promised to keep it secret.
When they finish off their portion of WindClan and RiverClan, Lionpaw runs to the lake and Dustpelt's patrol. There, he attacks Heatherpaw, and he accuses her of telling WindClan about the tunnels. She tells him a WindClan kit named Sedgekit had told the warriors about their rescue. But Lionpaw doesn't believe her, and almost kills her. But then he lets her go, and leaves.
On his way back to camp he meets Crowfeather, Heatherpaw's mentor. He fights Crowfeather, slicing his neck and almost killing him. Heatherpaw screams at him to stop, and he realizes what he almost did. He lets Crowfeather up, and continues back to camp. When the eclipse occurs, Heatherpaw panics, and he tells her that he won't forget what she did.
Lionpaw goes back to camp and eats a mouse. He feels that he cannot trust anything but himself and his Clan. Lionpaw overhears Firestar and some senior warriors discussing the vanishing sun. Brambleclaw asks him if he has anything to say. Lionpaw declares that they should counterattack at once, but Brambleclaw tells him that enough blood has been shed already. Lionpaw can't believe that they wouldn't attack, to defend their territory. Lionpaw asks Jaypaw what the vanishing sun and battle was about, but Jaypaw has no answer. Jaypaw tells him that the only way to find out is to talk with Sol.
Later, he goes with Jaypaw and Hollypaw find Sol again. They discuss the prophecy with him, and convince Sol to come to camp. Soon after they reach ThunderClan territory, a ShadowClan patrol consisting of Russetfur, Smokefoot, Kinkfur, and Owlpaw crosses the border and captures them. He goes to the ShadowClan camp, but is let go while Blackstar talks to Sol. Then he has a dream, and sees Heatherpaw's body lying motionless and dead. This makes him at first feel satisfied, but he realizes he does not want to be enemies anymore. He feels strange, almost sad. At the end of the book, he gains his warrior name, Lionblaze.
On a patrol, Tigerstar comes to Lionblaze on his own and says he is fed up of Hawkfrost's idea that he believed that he was better than them. But when Tigerstar sees that Lionblaze does believe it, he attacks Lionblaze, pinning him down and telling him that he had just been lucky.

Long Shadows

Lionblaze insists he always needs more battle-practice, even though he is no longer an apprentice. Ashfur fights viciously with him, to Firestar's disapproval. Throughout the book, Lionblaze is tortured by bloody visions and nightmares of him killing Heatherpaw.
Tigerstar is behind these dreams, and he reminds Lionblaze sharply that all traitors deserve to die. That is why, when Jaypaw asks him to help collect catmint in WindClan territory, he refuses until his Clan is nearly all dead. There, he runs into Heatherpaw, who corrects him by insisting her new name is Heathertail. She seems to know how close Lionblaze was to killing her.
Later on the hollow has caught on fire, causing Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze to be in a ring of flames, their only way blocked by Ashfur. Ashfur reveals his plans; that he worked with Hawkfrost, and since he couldn't take her father, he would take her kits. Squirrelflight then informs Lionblaze that she is not his mother, nor is she Hollyleaf or Jayfeather's, so she can save their lives from Ashfur. He is then distraught, thinking he may not be Firestar or Tigerstar's kin, meaning he may not be the cat in the prophecy. He is also afraid of what Tigerstar's reaction would be if he found out they were not kin. In the end, Lionblaze's mentor, Ashfur, is found dead in the river on the ThunderClan-WindClan border, and Lionblaze isn't distraught since he and Ashfur were never very close.

Sunrise

In the prologue, Lionblaze is fighting with Tigerstar. He fights very well, and almost kills Tigerstar again. Tigerstar actually has fear in his eyes for a brief moment, and then states that Lionblaze would never do it. Lionblaze steps back, claiming that he is already dead. While the Clan discusses Ashfur's death, Lionblaze is asked if he knew anything, and he replies no. Brambleclaw asks if Lionblaze is okay because Ashfur died and Ashfur was Lionblaze's mentor. Lionblaze replies that he is fine. Lionblaze was never really fond of Ashfur and never really cared.
He is chosen to go with the patrol to sun-drown-place to search for Sol along with Hollyleaf, Brambleclaw, Brackenfur, Hazeltail, and Birchfall.
Lionblaze, Berrynose, and Honeyfern are relaxing on the basking rocks when a snake appears in the ThunderClan camp and tries to kill Briarkit. However, Honeyfern is faster than Lionblaze and pushes Briarkit out of the way and so the snake bites her and takes her life instead. He feels remorse, for if he had approached the snake first, he would have killed it and Honeyfern would not have lost her life.
Lionblaze discovers that the true parents of him and his siblings are Leafpool and Crowfeather. He realizes that he and his siblings could still be a part of the prophecy, because Leafpool is Firestar's daughter, making him still Firestar's kin. He decides that the prophecy is all that matters and frees Sol in the middle of the night in exchange for Sol's offer of knowledge about the prophecy. He takes his siblings to meet Sol the next day, but Sol dodges all their questions and they end up with no more new information.
Lionblaze and Jayfeather chase after Hollyleaf when she runs away from them after she had revealed their secret at the Gathering to all of the Clans. She runs into the caves and the tunnel collapses on her. Lionblaze and Jayfeather are shocked and mourn her death, but decide to tell ThunderClan she died chasing prey into the tunnels when they collapsed on her. As Whitewing's kits, Dovekit and Ivykit, first appear out of the nursery, Lionblaze is there, and Jayfeather discovers that one of them will still fulfill the prophecy.

In the Omen of the Stars arc

The Fourth Apprentice

Lionblaze is at the Gathering in which Leopardstar lays claim on all the fish in the lake. Before the meeting, he is greeted by Dawnpelt and Tigerheart, but answers them as he would any other ShadowClan cat. Cinderheart points out to him that it is better to have friends than enemies. He is seen sitting between Graystripe and Sorreltail. When he expresses his feelings of disbelief at Firestar picking Squirrelflight to mentor Rosepaw, he is rebuked by Graystripe, saying that Firestar wanted to show everyone that Squirrelflight is still a valued member of ThunderClan.
After the Gathering, Lionblaze is seen talking with Jayfeather, saying that Leopardstar might see sense when she thinks about what the other leaders told her, about the fish. He also tells Jayfeather that he heard some ShadowClan cats at the Gathering saying that Leopardstar lost two of her lives recently.
Lionblaze is seen going on a water patrol lead by Cloudtail with Berrynose, Hazeltail, and Blossompaw. When they get to the lake, they are confronted by a hostile patrol of RiverClan warriors: Reedwhisker, Graymist, Otterheart, and Sneezepaw.
Later, Firestar makes Lionblaze Dovepaw's mentor. Lionblaze takes Dovepaw to gather water from the shrinking lake. Cinderheart and Dovepaw's sister Ivypaw come with them. Ivypaw sniffs at a dead fish, causing a RiverClan cat named Rainstorm to charge in after her, and he slips into the mud and nearly dies. Thornclaw and Lionblaze save him and take him back to ThunderClan. Firestar has him rest until it's cool enough to take him home. When returning the warrior, Dovepaw tells Lionblaze that there's a sick cat in the RiverClan camp, causing the deputy Mistyfoot to worry. Later, at Dovepaw's first Gathering, she tells Lionblaze that the cat is Leopardstar.
He and Dovepaw are chosen to represent ThunderClan in the quest to free the water from the beaver dam. He had brought this up to Firestar, hinting Dovepaw had a dream, without actually confirming it. When they meet with the other cats, Dovepaw hears Mothwing talking to Mistyfoot and Reedwhisker about Leopardstar losing two lives. Dovepaw wonders how many lives the leader has left. Mothwing tells the two cats all her herbs have dried up.
They reach the beaver dam, and Lionblaze fakes a limp after battling a beaver. He says to Dovepaw he does not want other cats to see his abilities. With the help of Jigsaw, Seville, and Snowdrop, they free the dam and go home.
After Poppyfrost gives birth, Lionblaze is called into the nursery by Jayfeather to find the spirits of Brokenstar, Tigerstar and Hawkfrost staring at the kits. He then tells Jayfeather about his meeting with Tigerstar and the brothers predict that there will be a battle between StarClan and the Dark Forest.

Fading Echoes

Brambleclaw tells Dovepaw that she could join the dawn patrol with him and Lionblaze. Lionblaze emerges from the warriors den, yawning, at the sound of his name. When Brambleclaw tells him that he was joining the dawn patrol, Lionblaze's eyes brighten. When he looks at Dovepaw, he frowns, knowing something was wrong. As the patrol leaves, Dovepaw rushes to catch up to Lionblaze at the thorn tunnel. In her mind, Dovepaw debates if she should tell Lionblaze about Leopardstar. When Ivypaw gets a stick splinter in her pad, Lionblaze stares at the broken pieces of Jayfeather's stick with wide, startled eyes.
He trains Dovepaw with Cinderheart and Ivypaw, and teaches them to climb and attack from trees. He thinks that learning how to ambush from trees is cowardly, but goes along with it anyway.
Like Jayfeather, Lionblaze hasn't forgiven Squirrelflight or Leafpool for their lie about them being their children. He is also with Jayfeather and Dovepaw when Firestar reveals to them about the prophecy, and the Three tell them that they are the prophesied cats.
Lionblaze asks Jayfeather why he broke his stick, and then asks why it was so important to him. Jayfeather then tells Lionblaze about the ancient cats, who eventually became the Tribe of Rushing Water. When Jayfeather tells him about Rock, Lionblaze starts to think about his days when he and Heathertail used to play in the underground tunnels.
When Briarpaw is trapped in the wreckage after a beech tree fell in camp, Lionblaze is the one to help her get out along with several others. As they figure out that Briarpaw cannot feel her hind legs, Lionblaze wonders if the once cheerful apprentice would thank him for saving her life.
He and Cinderheart go for a walk in the forest, and begin to race each other and have fun. Lionblaze reveals that he feels affection towards her, but it is unknown whether she likes him back since she acted briskly toward him the next morning. He then wonders whether she didn't enjoy their walk like he had, or whether she was just being like that on purpose. That causes him to be cross with Dovepaw during training later on.
While battling ShadowClan, he sees Russetfur holding tightly onto Firestar's neck. He rushes over to help his leader, and with tremendous effort, manages to pull Russetfur off him. However, in the process, he unintentionally kills her and is bewildered by this. Then he notices that Firestar is losing a life and soon realizes that the battle should have never happened.

Night Whispers

Right after the battle with ShadowClan, Lionblaze is shown to deeply regret killing Russetfur even though Brambleclaw said she was too old to win. He is shattered and his eyes are dull.
He is seen, or rather heard, by Dovepaw, talking about Ivypaw's dreams of the Dark Forest, or the Place of No Stars.
Lionblaze is unable to sleep, so in order pass the time, he gets up to go on a walk. Cinderheart awakens and goes with him into the forest for another moonlit walk. They speak of Russetfur's death and Cinderheart admits her suspicions of "something different" with the battle. They run together until they reach the collapsed den that Hollyleaf ran into. Lionblaze experiences dark memories, how Hollyleaf died there. Cinderheart asks him what was wrong.
Lionblaze thinks back of a previous night, when he had confessed to Cinderheart that he loved her, and Cinderheart had also. He and Cinderheart then take Ivypaw and Dovepaw to a training session together.
When Lionblaze goes to fight the fox that invaded ThunderClan territory, he is told by Firestar to bring Dovepaw with him. He escapes unhurt and pretends to be injured but tells Cinderheart about the prophecy. Cinderheart tells him that they cannot be mates anymore and flees to the warriors' den.
He is also seen fighting Breezepelt over a thrush, and it is quite easy for him to win. But Leafpool is caught between the two, and Breezepelt attacks her instead, wounding her. Lionblaze is shocked by this, but before he can come and help her, Crowfeather saves her instead. After the whole dispute is over, Lionblaze feels sick that he even attempted to fight his own brother at all. He quickly blames Leafpool for this, thinking that all of this is her fault, but Lionblaze soon feels guilty and pities Leafpool, realizing that she suffered more than any of them. When Cinderheart scolds him for fighting Breezepelt, Lionblaze snaps at her to stop treating him like a two-headed fox.
At the end of the book, he is there when Ivypaw confesses about visiting the Dark Forest, and for Lionblaze and Jayfeather, she turns herself into a spy to save the Clans.

Sign of the Moon

Lionblaze gives Dovepaw her warrior assessment with help from Spiderleg. He realizes why she is distracted from catching a squirrel, but Spiderleg doesn't. When Icecloud falls into one of the tunnels, he realizes that it's the same one that Hollyleaf got trapped in. He fears of what the Clan may find down there, and he wants to protect her secret. He offers to go down to get Icecloud himself, but because he is too heavy, Dovepaw offers instead. He wants to ask her if she found his sister's dead body in the tunnels, but is unable to. Dovepaw gets her warrior name, Dovewing, along with Ivypaw becoming Ivypool. Lionblaze still wants to be mates with Cinderheart again, but knows why she won't.
Jayfeather asks Lionblaze to take him to the underground tunnels. They both are having memories of Hollyleaf. They explore some of the tunnel after they clear the slope. They do not find a dead body, but do find a tuft of black fur. He is then convinced that she is alive. When Jayfeather says he is going to the mountains, he appears eager to go with, and becomes angered that he is not allowed to go afterwards. He is still upset over it even after Jayfeather left.
He goes hunting with Cinderheart and becomes angered that Cinderheart isn't sad about them not being mates, but then realizes she is. When Cinderheart acts strange, Lionblaze attempts to comforts her, saying there will be other mates, but she becomes furious and runs away from him. Lionblaze is shocked at this, not understanding why Cinderheart was acting like that. Still dazed, he allows himself to take a walk with Leafpool when she asked. He tells Leafpool about Cinderheart and she replies by saying that she thinks that she still loves him. Lionblaze asks his mother if she misses being a medicine cat, and that if she was meant to be one, then why did StarClan allow her to be with Crowfeather. Leafpool says that she listened to her heart and returned to the Clans. It appears that Lionblaze still holds a grudge against Leafpool but, since Night Whispers, his is not as strong as Jayfeather's.
He and Cinderheart train Toadstep and Rosepetal. During the session, he hears a dog barking and rushes to find Bumblestripe faced with a dog. Lionblaze chases it off in one direction, but Briarlight is there, so he drives it off to the lake where its owner calls it over. He helps Bumblestripe carry Briarlight back to camp and asks why she is so far from the camp.

The Forgotten Warrior

He is first mentioned when Jayfeather recalls Lionblaze telling him that Bumblestripe had carried his sister. Briarlight, out of camp to help her find herbs.
He comforts Dovewing when she tells him that she fears that her powers will be gone forever. He reassures her that her powers will return.
He is later seen when Ivypool, Birchfall, and Sorreltail's patrol return from the WindClan border. He tells Cherrykit and Molekit that no one was attacking, and they didn't need to fight so they could sheathe their claws. Brightheart tells him that he would one day make a good father, and he glances at Cinderheart, who meets his gaze with pain filled eyes, he then thinks, somewhat angry, that they could have had their own kits, and it wasn't his fault StarClan chose him for the prophecy before he was born.
Molepaw and Cherrypaw, newly made apprentices, are nearly attacked by a fox, but they say that a cat came and chased it off - not their mentors, and not a ThunderClan cat. Jayfeather tells Lionblaze that the apprentices are right, and that there is an intruder. Lionblaze says that he will get a patrol to chase it off, but Jayfeather tells him not to, as the cat might not be an enemy, referring to their lost sister, Hollyleaf. However, Lionblaze goes anyways, and searches for her, only to discover Sol. Sol comments that it's funny how Lionblaze was the last cat he saw when he left, and the first cat he sees when he returns. Lionblaze takes Sol back to the ThunderClan camp, per request.
When the Clan figures out that both Ivypool and Dovewing are missing, Lionblaze finds them at the entrance to the tunnels, along with his sister, Hollyleaf. As she sees him, Hollyleaf panics, but he looks down into the entrance and says that he will not let Hollyleaf run away again.
When Cinderheart is revealed to be Cinderpelt, Lionblaze is stunned at this and tries to comfort her, but Cinderheart is too distraught and confused to listen. Soon after, Lionblaze is shown to be depressed and miserable over Cinderheart's state of mind and Squirrelflight comes to him to give words of comfort to him. Because of this, Lionblaze finally loses his grudge towards his foster mother and forgives her, encouraging her by saying she was a great mother and should be with Brambleclaw again, though Squirrelflight sadly refuses.

The Last Hope

After sharing a mouse with Hollyleaf, the littermates begin to wonder why their brother, Jayfeather, is not back from the Moonpool. The warrior starts to worry what could have happened to him when Cinderheart comes to greet his sister. Cinderheart informs Lionblaze that Brambleclaw wants to take a hunting patrol to the lake. Lionblaze then asks Cinderheart if she should be doing medicine cat duties while Jayfeather is away, while Cinderheart refuses to stay off of the patrol. The two warriors take Cloudtail with them on the patrol, then have a short chat about their destinies before asking Thornclaw to tag along, who asks to bring Blossomfall, to which he agrees to. After Blossomfall gets trapped in a tangle of bramble he rushes to her side, and Thornclaw tells her that it won't make the wound she got from the Dark Forest training session better. She tells Thornclaw to be quiet, and not to blow away their secret of Dark Forest training. After having Cinderheart check Blossomfall's wound, he questions her about her knowledge of medicine cat skills, she sharply replies she is sure about what she is doing. The warrior asks Blossomfall if they should head back, but she kindly declines. While hunting Lionblaze notices that Cinderheart seemed slightly distracted. As the other patrols return, he questions if Graystripe is training in the Dark Forest as well. Hollyleaf asks Lionblaze about his problems with Cinderheart being Cinderpelt, while he reassures her he is okay. After the chat, the two warriors race towards the Ancient Oak. Hollyleaf explains how she hates how she does nothing for the Clan to Lionblaze before Dovewing and Jayfeather arrive to talk with Lionblaze. After Jayfeather explains that he has a prophecy from the Tribe of Endless Hunting about a fourth cat in the prophecy. The warrior then begins to wonder if StarClan's trust in them is waning.
Lionblaze remains upset that Cinderheart refuses to be his mate because of their destinies. He decides that he is going to shape his own destiny. He joins a patrol to ShadowClan and Ratscar accuses the warriors of crossing the scent line, which is not untrue, since Dovewing had been spending time with Tigerheart. Lionblaze offers to check it out, and covers her scent. He taunts the patrol, provoking Ratscar. The ShadowClan warrior tells an apprentice, Stoatpaw, to practice battle moves on Lionblaze. Lionblaze doesn't want to be beaten by an apprentice, so he taunts Ratscar more. Then, the warrior attacks Lionblaze. Squirrelflight tells Graystripe to help him, but the warrior tells her that Lionblaze started the fight, so he should fight it himself. The golden warrior doesn't fight back and lets Ratscar shred him. Graystripe backs up the fight, ashamed of the younger warrior. Back in camp, Firestar scolds Lionblaze, and Cinderheart is angry with him.
He is seen in a dream with Dovewing and Jayfeather in which Rock is angry at them. He yells at them for ignoring their destinies in the prophecy.
Lionblaze remembers Midnight's words, that he can shape his own destiny, and passes on this advice to Cinderheart. She is finally able to decide what she wants, and is able to set Cinderpelt free to StarClan. She then tells Lionblaze that she chooses to be his mate.
During the Dark Forest's attack on ShadowClan, Lionblaze is part of the patrol that goes to fight on their behalf. He is joined by another ThunderClan warrior, Graystripe, and the ShadowClan warriors who were already fighting in ThunderClan's territory. They accompany Stoatpaw back ShadowClan's camp to find them being assaulted by the Dark Forest cats. Lionblaze finds out that Blackstar has lost a life. He tells Ratscar to advance his patrol on the remaining Dark Forest cats slowly. More cats, including The Ancients, arrive to help fight the Dark Forest. Lionblaze challenges Shredtail after Blackstar kills Redwillow to save the ShadowClan leader a battle. The two fight until Lionblaze bites Shredtail's throat, killing him a second time. Blackstar says that he is proud to fight beside Lionblaze.
Lionblaze is later seen leading the Ancients into ThunderClan camp to fight the Dark Forest cats. Breezepelt tries to kill Lionblaze, but Crowfeather saves him. When Firestar dies, Lionblaze is seen grieving with the rest of his Clanmates.

In the A Vision of Shadows arc

The Apprentice's Quest

Alderkit watches as Lionblaze, Blossomfall, and Ivypool return from a hunting patrol. He begins to wonder who his new mentor will be, and thinks in his head that Lionblaze is a bit scary. Alderkit suppresses a shiver at the sight of Lionblaze's muscles rippling under his pelt.
Later, Alderpaw thinks to himself that Bramblestar seems to stand taller and stronger than all of the warriors, including the brave ones like Lionblaze and Dovewing, as he calls together a Clan meeting.

Thunder and Shadow

After Rowanstar visits ThunderClan to ask for help, Bramblestar calls Alderpaw back into his den for a moment. The leader tells him that Squirrelflight, Lionblaze, and Cinderheart are being sent on a patrol to search for SkyClan. The medicine cat apprentice asks to go with them, but is declined. Bramblestar continues that he told the patrolling cats about SkyClan, but are under strict orders not to share that information with any cat. The brown tabby tom meows that the rest of the Clan will think Lionblaze, Squirrelfliight, and Cinderheart simply went to look for Twigkit's mother. However, much later, the patrol returns with unsuccessful results. Lionblaze comments that the gorge was empty, and clearly, SkyClan hadn't returned because they couldn't defend it well.
Lionblaze participates in the battle aiding WindClan against Darktail's group. He is fighting with a silver-gray tom, and later stands protectively in front of Emberfoot and Furzepelt with Rosepetal beside him. When Bramblestar asks who was injured, he is seen licking his wounds, which are only scratches. Soon after, Onestar loses a life due to injuries. The golden tom asks if the tom has many more, and Oatclaw answers that only the leader himself knows. A bit after, Bramblestar, Birchfall, Lionblaze, and Onestar talk about the attack once back in ThunderClan's camp.
Lionblaze is sent on a patrol with Sparkpaw, Cinderheart, Birchfall, and Poppyfrost to warn RiverClan about the rogues. He is later seen taking two cats to check the ShadowClan border, while others mill around the clearing. When he returns, he comes with Crowfrost, Tawnypelt, and Scorchfur. They explain that Twigpaw is safe, but is being held until ShadowClan can get the herb they need. This plan does not work, as Bramblestar and several of his best warriors go to the rival Clan's camp to get the apprentice back. Lionblaze is with them, bunched at the entrance with a bristling pelt.

Shattered Sky

Lionblaze is seen by Twigpaw before the first battle with Darktail, the muscles rippling beneath his pelt. Twigpaw runs alongside Lionblaze when the battle begins. During the battle, after Ivypool helps Twigpaw fight Juniperclaw, she hurls herself towards Dovewing and Lionblaze, who are battling three other rogues. When the WindClan cats retreat from the battle, Lionblaze angrily yowls. Later in the battle, as Violetpaw is about to attack Twigpaw, Lionblaze lets out a yowl and he races past, flinging himself on Rain and the ShadowClan cats, all of whom flinch backwards at his attack.
Later that day, he, Dovewing, and Squirelflight are seen by Alderheart, preparing to leave for the Gathering, and they are noted to have minor injures. During the Gathering, Onestar confronts Bramblestar about helping SkyClan, and the WindClan cats growl angrily. In response, Lionblaze and Dovewing slide out their claws, ready to defend himself if the WindClan warriors attack. On the way back from the Gathering, Lionblaze and his former apprentice, Dovewing, bring up the rear of the patrol.
Later, as Rowanstar and Bramblestar argue, Lionblaze sits with Cinderheart and Jayfeather. His brother and mate openly follow the argument, but he looks embarrassed and pretends to groom himself. However, he stops with every lick, and Alderheart knows Lionblaze is interested in the argument too. When Rowanstar accuses ThunderClan of being cowards, Lionblaze immediately stops grooming and half-rises to his paws, furiously glaring at the ShadowCan leader. He only sits down again when Cinderheart murmurs into his ear. After the two Clan leaders argue more, Cinderheart mutters to Lionblaze that Rowanstar's got some nerve to expect ThunderClan to fight his battles.
After Alderheart has a vision of SkyClan, Bramblestar calls a Clan meeting to discuss if ThunderClan should look for them. Dovewing thinks they should and offers to lead a patrol to look for the lost Clan, and Lionblaze adds that he will join her if Bramblestar is alright with it, though he doesn't sound as certain as the gray she-cat. However, the ultimate decision is to not look for SkyClan.
About a moon later, outraged yowls are heard outside of camp, and Lionblaze leads the dawn patrol across the hollow, limping. He is followed by Berrynose and Rosepetal, and all three are bristling in fury. The ginger tom calls to Bramblestar that they need to report. Bramblestar comes down from the Highledge, and the patrol explains that some rogues at the ShadowClan border crossed into their territory and attacked them. Lionblaze furiously adds that they drove them off, and Alderheart knows that he is angered at being defeated by rogues. Bramblestar calls a Clan meeting to talk about what to do with the rogues, and after a moment of silence, Lionblaze clears his throat and rises to his paws.
Lionblaze proudly announces that yesterday, he and Cinderheart found out that they were expecting their second litter of kits, and Alderheart remembers how Leafpool had given the two the news the day before. The Clan erupts into yowls of congratulations, but they quickly die away, as all the cats realize that it is a bad time to have kits. The golden warrior continues that his kits can't be born when every moment they are expecting to be driven out of their territory. He questions if the Clans will even be at the lake by then, and Cinderheart pads up to her mate's side, resting her tail on his shoulders. She questions what will happen to their kits and if the Clans will even exist anymore. Poppyfrost says that there have always been Clans, but Lionblaze shakes his head and states that ignoring the problem won't make it go away. He reminds the Clan of the prophecy and points out that they are still no closer to finding out its meaning than they were moons ago. Cloudtail argues that there were other things on their minds, and Lionblaze dips his head to the white warrior but says that they must work together to find a way to clear the sky, or they could lose everything. Alderheart thinks that no cat had ever spoken so boldly about what would happen if the Clans couldn't drive away the rogues.
A few days later, Lionblaze, Sparkpelt, Ivypool, and Alderheart go to the RiverClan-ShadowClan border to save a few cats from the Kin. At the border, the golden warrior keeps watch for patrolling rogues. Soon, he springs to his paws and points to three figures coming towards them across the Thunderpath. It turns out to be Violetpaw, Oakfur, and Ratscar. The patrol soon sets off towards ThunderClan, with Lionblaze in the lead. However, he suddenly stops and curses when Cloverfoot and Nettle are seen nearby. Sparkpelt guesses that they are hunting voles, and he angrily meows that if they are, they might be there all night. Lionblaze decides to take a route farther away from the lake, so they head deeper into ShadowClan territory.
The group is almost at the ThunderClan border when two more rogues are seen patrolling ahead. Lionblaze calmly orders them to head for the ferns and be quiet. As the cats hide, he whispers that they must be close to the border, as he can smell the ThunderClan scent markers, but as he speaks, Ratscar coughs, which alerts the rogues' attention. Ratscar tells the others to leave him behind, but Lionblaze firmly states that no cat will leave him. He instructs Alderheart to lead the elders over the border, while he distracts the rogues. Alderheart objects, but Ivypool argues that Lionblaze has her and Sparkpelt to help, and she orders him to go.
When Alderheart and the elders reach the ThunderClan camp, the medicine cat reports to his father and explains how Lionblaze and the others stayed to fight off some rogues. Just then, Lionblaze leads Sparkpelt and Ivypool into camp. Alderheart asks them if they are okay, and the golden tom replies that they are just fine. He explains that he told the rogues that they stepped over the border on patrol, and they seemed to accept that. Several days later, Bramblestar calls a meeting to discuss the Clans' next steps, and Lionblaze is the first to speak up. He states that he thinks the prisoners must be rescued before they attack the Kin, and that they are currently only rescuing a few cats at a time. In the end, they come up with a plan to rescue the prisoners by drugging Darktail and some of other cats with poppy seeds. A few days later, as the chosen patrol travels to the former RiverClan camp, they hear yowls, shrieks, and hisses; Lionblaze comments that that doesn't sound good.

Darkest Night

Lionblaze is seen guarding a prey pile, searching for danger. When Sparkpelt asks where SkyClan will be, he answers that SkyClan will be gone soon and that the leaders will decide at the next Gathering. Lionblaze, Cherryfall, and Fernsong gather up the prey and head back to the hollow. Lionblaze and Fernsong put their prey on the fresh kill pile, and Lionblaze tells Cherryfall sternly that complaining won't help anyone when she grumbles about SkyClan. Cherryfall says that Twigpaw wanted to bring SkyClan to ThunderClan because she wanted to find her father and Lionblaze retorts that it was part of StarClan's prophecy.
When Alderheart and Leafpool go to the Moonpool at half-moon, Hollyleaf is mentioned to be among the StarClan cats in the medicine cats' shared vision. It is mentioned that Jayfeather and Lionblaze hardly spoke of their dead littermate, but when they did there was a strange tension in their words.
Lionblaze, Ivypool, Thornclaw, and Fernsong enter the SkyClan camp in search of Dovewing. Ivypool tells Leafstar that Dovewing has been missing for two days. Lionblaze adds that she left without saying a word to anyone. Leafstar questions Twigpaw after Ivypool gazes at her pointedly. Twigpaw, uncomfortable under the warriors' stares, confesses that she saw Tigerheart and Dovewing talking about ShadowClan on SkyClan's territory a quarter moon ago. With this new information, Leafstar gives the ThunderClan patrol permission to search for Dovewing on SkyClan's territory until sunset. The patrol thanks the SkyClan leader and leaves the camp to begin their search.
Alderheart observes the ThunderClan patrol as they return to the ThunderClan camp. He questions if they had found any sign of Dovewing. After Ivypool sadly tells him that they had found nothing, Lionblaze tells Alderheart the information Twigpaw had given them about Dovewing and Tigerheart. After their conversation, Lionblaze pads back to the warrior's den. When Ivypool desperately asks Fernsong if Lionblaze and the other warriors think her sister is a traitor, Fernsong consoles her that Dovewing fought with Lionblaze against the Dark Forest, and the golden warrior knew better than anyone that she would never be a traitor to her Clan.
Immediately after the conversation about Dovewing ends, the heavy rain causes erosion at the top of the camp and mud and rocks begin to fall. Hearing the commotion, Lionblaze and Brackenfur shoot out of the warrior's den. Lionblaze quickly orders Brackenfur to make sure the warrior's den and the elder's den are clear of any cats and to take everyone to the lake shore. When a lump of stone comes crashing into the camp, Lionblaze shoulders Alderheart backwards to get him out of the way. Alderheart suddenly panics because he was not sure if Jayfeather and Briarlight are safe from the rockfall. He and Lionblaze hare towards the medicine cat den, and Lionblaze calls for Cloudtail, Birchfall, and Snowbush to come and help. Lionblaze bravely shoves Jayfeather out of the way of falling debris and grabs Briarlight by her scruff. He and Birchfall work together to carry the lame warrior out of the medicine den.
After the cats evacuate the medicine den, Lionblaze waits for Alderheart and Snowbush to meet him at the thorn tunnel to flee. A huge stone suddenly falls from the top of the camp and Snowbush shoves Alderheart forward out of the way. Lionblaze hooks the young medicine cat's scruff with an outstretched paw and drags him away from where the stone was falling. The rush of air as the stone hit the ground knocks Alderheart into Lionblaze and the two cats get knocked off their paws. Lionblaze groans and asks Alderheart if he's hurt. Alderheart does not answer his question and thickly mews Snowbush's name. They see Snowbush's body laying motionless beside the rubble and rush to his side immediately. Lionblaze helps Alderheart drag Snowbush clear of the debris and lays him at the edge of the clearing. After Alderheart gets Snowbush breathing again, they see that his leg is badly broken. Lionblaze rushes out of the camp towards the lake shore to fetch help.
Lionblaze returns to the camp with Molewhisker, Birchfall, Lilyheart, and Larksong. Lionblaze and Birchfall get on opposite sides of Snowbush and help the injured tom weakly limp out of the camp's entrance.

River of Fire

He and Cinderheart have their second litter, consisting of Snapkit, Spotkit, and Flykit.
When Twigpaw returns to ThunderClan, Lionblaze asks her if SkyClan is in trouble, and slids out his claws.
Alderheart notices Lionblaze walk past him, and sees his golden brown pelt plastered to his sides, and a squirrel in his jaws. Alderheart yowls that he needs his help, and Lionblaze mumbles okay. He drops his fresh-kill, and tells Alderheart that whatever it is, he can't get any wetter, and add that he just needs to drop off his fresh-kill. Alderheart calls after him to fetch another cat for the task. Lionblaze returns a few moments later with Bumblestripe, and Alderheart guesses that the two of them were on the same hunting patrol, since they both looked the same amount of soaked, with their fur matted to their bodies. Lionblaze asks the medicine cat how they can help, and Alderheart informs them that they need to move Briarlight into the nursery. Lionblaze agrees, and he and Bumblestripe assist Alderheart in getting Briarlight to her destination.
Lionblaze and Cinderheart become grandparents to Flipkit, Thriftkit, and Bristlekit, the kits of Fernsong and Ivypool.
Lionblaze is mentioned, although not by name by Jayfeather, who tells Alderheart that when Leafpool's secret was revealed to the Clans, it ruined the lives of himself, Lionblaze, and their sister Hollyleaf.

In the Field Guides

Cats of the Clans

The narrator of this guide, Rock, says that Firestar has waited a long time for the birth of these kits.
He explains how Lionpaw is the fighter, and that his talent is not all natural, that some of it comes from his training in the Dark Forest. Rock also mentions that Tigerstar and Hawkfrost are not Lionpaw's friends. Rock ends with a mysterious piece of advice:
"Three young cats, with starlight in their eyes and the whisper of an ancient wind in their fur. Just remember this: power is neither good nor bad, but its user makes it so."

Battles of the Clans

After Bumblepaw learns the Lightning Strike technique, he praises it, saying there's no way they could lose a battle with that tactic. Lionblaze reminds the apprentice that a warrior cannot win a battle with only one technique, but agrees that the Lightning Strike is useful nonetheless. Bumblepaw wants to demonstrate the attack for Dovepaw and Ivypaw, and asks Lionblaze, along with Purdy, to act as a tree for him to stalk behind. When Dovepaw comments on Bumblepaw's stalking technique, Lionblaze chimes in, but Bumblepaw angrily tells him to be quiet like a tree. Lionblaze only breaks his silence once more to tell Bumblepaw not to threaten Ivypaw too much or he would give her nightmares.

The Ultimate Guide

It is mentioned on Sandstorm's page that when the truth came out about Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather, Sandstorm stood by her kits. It is mentioned on Leafpool's page that Leafpool fell in love with Crowfeather and bore his kits. Since she was a medicine cat and cannot have kits, she gave up her kits to Squirrelflight, who convinced everyone that the kits were hers, even her mate. When her secret was discovered by Hollyleaf who blurted it out at a Gathering, Leafpool was forced to give up her role as a medicine cat. To add to her pain, Leafpool's kits shunned her and were angry with her for what she did. Leafpool never judged Lionblaze and his siblings, and was always proud of them.
He is mentioned twice on Squirrelflight's page. Squirrelflight was incapable of doing anything but what she believed was right, even taking Leafpool's kits and making her Clanmates believe they were her own. Squirrelflight watched Brambleclaw raise the kits and when the truth came out of their real mother, Brambleclaw couldn't forgive Squirrelflight for lying to him. He appears on Brambleclaw's page. Brambleclaw's greatest challenge was becoming father to Lionblaze and his siblings. He relished the challenge as he watched the kits grow into strong, loyal ThunderClan cats. His heart broke when he learned he was not the real father.
It is mentioned on Ashfur's page that Ashfur's bitterness to Squirrelflight led to Ashfur threatening to kill Squirrelflight's kits, which made her reveal who their true mother is. Ashfur now has a powerful weapon to use against Squirrelflight, to reveal she lied about Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze. Ashfur was a good mentor for Lionblaze because he was able to shape Lionblaze's raw talent for fighting into powerful, well-practiced techniques.
Lionblaze has his own page.
When Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight announced the arrival of their kits, Firestar knew that they are the cats of the prophecy there will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws. Lionblaze seemed he would play a big part in saving the Clans because he was exceptionally strong, skilled in battle and as brave as Brambleclaw's father, Tigerstar, which could be why he trained Lionblaze in his dreams, training him to be even more fearless and ruthless in battle, however, Lionblaze rejected him when he realized he just wants revenge on Firestar. He didn't need it anyway as Lionblaze discovers that he has a unique fighting ability to fight in the midst of battle and escape without a scratch.
He fell in love with a warrior named Cinderheart. Lionblaze had to fight one of the hardest battles of his life to make Cinderheart understand that they choose their own destinies and that being together would not diminish his strength in the final confrontation with the Dark Forest.
It is mentioned on Hollyleaf's page that Lionblaze had his unconquerable fighting ability while Hollyleaf found her strength in her faith in the warrior code. It also is mentioned on Jayfeather's page that Jayfeather shared his littermates' courage and curiosity. It is mentioned on Cinderheart's page that Lionblaze convinced her that she could choose her own path. She chose to become a warrior alongside Lionblaze. It is also mentioned on Ivypool's page that he and Jayfeather saw the potential of recruiting Ivypool as a spy when they discovered she walked in the Dark Forest, and she agreed. Also during Bramblestar's nine lives ceremony, Brambleclaw notes that he would still give his life in a moment to protect Lionblaze and his siblings.
It is mentioned on Blackstar's page that Lionblaze, Hollyleaf and Jaypaw schemed with Tigerpaw and Dawnpaw (and Flamepaw, but is mistakenly not mentioned) to create a false message from StarClan.
It is also mentioned on Russetfur's page that Lionblaze killed Russetfur over the clearing between ShadowClan and ThunderClan. It is also mentioned on Flametail's page that he and his siblings were intrigued to see Lionblaze and his siblings.
He appears on Crowfeather's page. Crowfeather was horrified to learn that Lionblaze and his siblings are his kits, and refused to acknowledge them as his own. Later, during the Great Battle, Crowfeather found Breezepelt attacking Lionblaze and pulled him away, vowing he would never let anyone harm a hair on Lionblaze's pelt. Alone with Leafpool, Crowfeather admitted he regretted nothing, the closest he will ever go to accepting his ThunderClan kits as his own.
He appears on Nightcloud's and Breezepelt's page. When Breezepelt learned that Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf are Crowfeather's kits, his horror is not hard to imagine. During the Great Battle, Breezepelt launched himself at Lionblaze, who seemed to represent everything that was wrong for Breezepelt, but Crowfeather pulled Breezepelt off and chased him off. Breezepelt also gave Crowfeather the chance to acknowledge his ThunderClan son.
Lionblaze also appears on Heathertail's page. Heatherpaw first met Lionpaw when she returned Jaypaw to ThunderClan camp. She met him again when a ThunderClan patrol came to aid against a straying dog. They fought side by side, the invisible Clan boundaries beginning to fade. She suggested meeting Lionpaw on the border and then in the underground tunnels soon after. They explored the tunnels and played games of DarkClan, unaware of the ancient eyes watching them. Border clashes between the two Clans made Lionpaw reluctantly decide that he could no longer meet with Heatherpaw. When the three WindClan kits went missing, Heatherpaw and Lionpaw guessed that they went into the tunnels. Torrential rain blocked their tunnel escapes, so they were washed out into the lake, narrowly escaping with their lives. Heatherpaw knew her friendship with Lionblaze could not be rekindled. Moons later, they faced in battle. Their old memories were pushed aside by their loyalty to their Clans.
He is lastly mentioned on Rock's page. Rock blamed the existence of the three, if Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Dovewing did not come, the prophecy that involved the Dark Forest rising would not have been fulfilled.

In the Short Stories and Plays

After Sunset: The Right Choice?

Leafpool briefly worries about what will happen once Lionblaze and his siblings are born, but she pushes away the thought.

Beyond the Code: Brightspirit's Mercy

Lionblaze appears to be uncharacteristically insensitive in this play, saying that if the other Clans tried to steal prey from ThunderClan, he would chase them off. He is very opposed to the idea of giving food to the other Clans to help them survive, even growing annoyed with his siblings over it. Lionblaze only agrees to help catch prey to give away when Hollyleaf agrees because it might prevent a big battle between all of the Clans, and he thinks that the three of them should stick together.

In the Novellas

Leafpool's Wish

Leafpool finds out that she is expecting kits, Crowfeather's kits. She is in distress because she is a medicine cat, and has sworn loyalty to ThunderClan after running away with the WindClan tom but then returning. She stays determined on keeping her title as medicine cat, and hides her kits from the Clan. Soon before the kits are born, she leaves ThunderClan with Squirrelflight and they travel to non-Clan territory.
When Leafpool is giving birth, she has trouble having Lionblaze, as he gets stuck. Yellowfang arrives, and pushes on Leafpool's belly so that he is born. He is described as a huge golden tabby tom with broad shoulders and a deafening yowl.
When the sisters name the kits, he is given a name first: Lionkit, for his thick-furred neck like a lion's mane. His older sister is named Hollykit, and his younger brother is named Jaykit a few days later. Lionkit opens his eyes, which are revealed to be amber, while Hollykit's are green. As Leafpool watches the kits play and shred moss, she fondly thinks of Lionkit as brave and strong.
Soon, they return to ThunderClan, after Leafpool rubs her milk-scent on Squirrelflight so that the kits believe she is their mother instead. Lionkit is eager, and asks when he can become a warrior. Squirrelflight licks his head and tells him soon enough.

Hollyleaf's Story

In the first chapter, he is with his littermates, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather, in the ThunderClan camp when the fire spreads through the hollow. Along with his littermates, he witnesses Ashfur's anger, and Squirrelflight reveal a secret; that Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather are not her kits.
When Hollyleaf runs into the tunnels, she remembers that Lionblaze knows that she killed Ashfur, and believes that it's best for her littermates to believe that she got killed in the tunnels.
While hiding in ThunderClan territory, Hollyleaf recognized Lionblaze with Cinderheart and their apprentices Ivypaw and Dovepaw. Brambleclaw appeared and ordered the group to patrol the top of the hollow.

Mistystar's Omen

Mistystar's Omen does not formally appear in The Blazing Star , but is listed in the allegiances.

Dovewing's Silence

The Battle Against the Dark Forest is over, but there are many injuries and deceased. Lionblaze stands over Cinderheart worriedly as Leafpool treats her injuries. Leafpool then sends Lionblaze to fetch marigold and tansy from the medicine den. During the burial for the fallen, Lionblaze helps carry Mousefur's body before digging a space for the deceased elder. Purdy orders them to make the hole longer to give Mousefur space to stretch out. Lionblaze gives a muffled curse as he suddenly catches his claw on a root, which the claw is now bleeding. Cinderheart asks if he is sure, knowing that Lionblaze is supposed to be invincible. Dovewing wonders if the Dark Forest couldn't hurt him, why can a root then. Lionblaze growls that it's nothing and he continues digging. Dovewing tries to reassure herself that Lionblaze is just tired from the battle.
Bramblestar later personally asks Dovewing and Lionblaze to come with him, Jayfeather and the former Dark Forest trainees to discuss what to do with the former trainees. Bramblestar admits this is because Lionblaze and the other three know more about the Dark Forest than he does. Dovewing thinks that Lionblaze is always on patrol, and remembers his injury. She wonders if there is something wrong with their powers. At the meeting, Onestar asks why Lionblaze and Dovewing are present, asking if they were part of the Dark Forest. Bramblestar states no and that he brought them because they know more than him about the Dark Forest. After the meeting, Dovewing thinks she has to talk to Lionblaze and Jayfeather about their powers and ask if they are disappearing. She is about to ask Lionblaze but Cinderheart reminds Lionblaze she told him to rest so that his claw can heal. He is limping from that injury, but states he is fine and asks her to stop pestering him. Cinderheart tells him to not take it out on her and should see Jayfeather if it becomes infected. Lionblaze growls he has no time as they need to hunt while the weather holds.
Dovewing offers to join, thinking it's a chance to talk but Cinderheart and Ivypool also join. They go out and Dovewing winces as Lionblaze stumbles over brambles. Lionblaze catches a pigeon during the hunt, and tells Dovewing if the weather gets colder, they need all the prey they can get. He compliments everyone on their work and leads them back to camp, but Dovewing asks to talk to him privately. There’s anger in his eyes as Dovewing asks if they are losing their powers. Lionblaze says the battle took a lot out of them and no one knows how long it will take for them to recover. He tells Dovewing to talk to Jayfeather as he knows more. They are part of a prophecy and Lionblaze doesn't see how that will change. Limping awkwardly, Lionblaze trots away, ending the conversation. Dovewing just becomes even more determined to talk to him and Jayfeather.
After the first Gathering since the Great battle, Lionblaze comments it was strange as it seems as if the most exciting thing that happened lately is a pike stealing RiverClan fish. After Briarlight moves to the warriors’ den and demands pigeon feathers, Lionblaze humoredly calls her leader, and asks if she needs anything else, finest fresh-kill of soaked moss. Blossomfall snaps at him, but Lionblaze rests his tail on her shoulder and tells her that he understands, and asks Squirrelflight to go fetch the stuff that Briarlight needs. Squirrelfight agrees. When the Clan organizes their own patrols, Lionblaze and Cinderheart joins Poppyfrost. A patrol takes on a fox, and Lionblaze and Cinderheart finds Dovewing stunned. He tells Dovewing she’s winded and orders Cinderheart to watch her as he rushes to fight the fox. Cinderheart stresses he'll be hurt, but Dovewing tells Cinderheart he is still the strongest and bravest warrior. She asks him to not take that away from him. They kill the fox and it's revealed Molepaw and Cherrypaw deliberately sent the patrol to the fox. Lionblaze rushed to the apprentices and snaps they nearly killed the patrol. After they return to camp, Dovewing, Jayfeather and Lionblaze finally come together to talk about their disappearing powers.
Jayfeather takes Dovewing and Lionblaze to the Moonpool and Lionblaze comments it's creepy. They lie down and dream together. They come to an unfamiliar place, and Lionblaze points out two figures, it is Midnight and Rock. Lionblaze explains they came to the Moonpool because Jayfeather thought StarClan would know what happened to their powers. Midnight and Rock explain their powers are gone because it is no longer needed, but reassures their Clan will still always need them. Midnight tells Lionblaze personally to not lose faith. She says that to go to battle with the risk of injury or death is true courage. They see Firestar briefly before waking back up. Lionblaze asks Dovewing if she is alright, and she answers she is. Lionblaze then follows Jayfeather back to camp.

Trivia

Interesting facts

  • Lionblaze had the power to never be defeated in battle,[17] unless he wants to be defeated.[18] However, this power was revoked after his prophecy was fulfilled.[19]
  • He has WindClan blood through Crowfeather,[20] SkyClan blood through Redtail,[21] and kittypet blood through Firestar.[22]
  • Lionblaze's ear, nicked in a training session in the Dark Forest, contradicts his power to remain uninjured in battle.[23]
  • Lionblaze is a distant descendant of Windstar via Ashfoot.[24]
  • Lionblaze is the reincarnation of Lion's Roar.[25]
    • Vicky thinks that when Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and Dovewing die they will be their own selves, not the cats that they were reincarnated from.[26]
  • He was named after his appearance, which is noted to look exactly like a lion.[27]
  • He forgives Crowfeather but tells him that he will never consider him as his father.[28]
  • He forgives and makes amends with Breezepelt for trying to kill him in the Great Battle when Breezpelt comes to his aid while fighting the stoats.[29][30]

Mistakes

  • It was revealed by Kate Cary that the Three did not lose their powers after the events of The Last Hope.[31] but this is contradicted in Bramblestar's Storm, as the Three are without their powers.[32]
  • He has been mistakenly mentioned with orange fur[33] without stripes in the manga at the end of Bramblestar's Storm,[34] and without his nicked ear.[35] He has also been depicted with white fur in the manga of Crowfeather's Trial.[36]

Quotes

"If you want to be remembered for your strengths, you must work on them. And if that means proving yourself to those who doubt you, then do it. You can't force Hollypaw to believe in you. You have to show her that you are worth believing in."
―Brambleclaw to Lionpaw Dark River

"Meanwhile you'd better think about whether you want to be a warrior or whether you plan to live your life as a loner. Because if your Clanmates find out that you've kept the tunnels a secret from them, that's what you'll become!"
―Hawkfrost to Lionpaw Dark River

"I think you're great, Heatherpaw. But you need to find someone in your own Clan. I need to be the best warrior I can be, and I can't do that if I'm here every night."
―Lionpaw to Heatherpaw Dark River

Hollypaw: "You've been meeting Heatherpaw! You told me you'd stopped seeing her! You lied to me and your Clanmates! I always thought that you were the most loyal of us. And now you've betrayed your Clan!"
Lionpaw: "I haven't betrayed them! I've stopped meeting Heatherpaw now. We were just playing, but then I realized that—"
Hollypaw: "That an enemy Clan knows a secret way into our territory! Were you ever going to tell anyone, or were you just going to sit and watch while your little friend led her Clanmates to our camp?"
Lionpaw: "I would never let that happen!"
—Lionpaw and Hollypaw Dark River

"A good warrior will always do as much as he can to feed his Clan."
―Lionpaw to Jaypaw Outcast

"I could run farther than a hare! I could fight the fiercest fox that ever lived...I could climb the highest mountain faster than an eagle could fly."
―Lionpaw dreaming about his powers Outcast

"I thought I was special, I thought that's why he visited me. Because we were kin and he thought I'd make the best warrior."
―Lionblaze to Jayfeather about when Tigerstar visited him Fading Echoes

"You learned a good lesson about fighting as a team. Remember that no warrior needs to be a hero. The most heroic actions take more than one cat."
―Lionblaze to Toadstep Sign of the Moon

"Destiny isn't a path that any cat follows blindly. It is a matter of choice, and sometimes the heart speaks loudest. Deep down, I always knew what I had to do, and that's why I came back to the Clan. Lionblaze, whatever else happens, I trust you to know the right thing to do as well. Listen to your heart, because that's where your true destiny lies."
―Leafpool to Lionblaze Sign of the Moon

Cinderheart: "Lionblaze! I told you to rest today! You can’t go out on patrol until your claw heals."
Lionblaze: "It's fine. Stop bugging me about it."
Cinderheart: "Don't take it out on me. You should see Jayfeather if it's infected."
Lionblaze: "I don't have time now. We have to hunt while the weather holds."
—Cinderheart and Lionblaze about his injury Dovewing's Silence

"The Great Battle took a lot out of us. None of us know how long it will take to recover."
―Lionblaze about the Great Battle Dovewing's Silence

Crowfeather: "If I'd only known when you were kits, when you needed me, surely things would have been different. I have no excuses, but...I hope you can forgive me for the way I acted."
Lionblaze: "It doesn't matter. I was a full-grown warrior by the time I found out that you and Leafpool were my parents. I don't need to be your kit. Bramblestar was the only father we knew, and he was a great one. He'll always be my father, no matter what. [...] I'm not angry with you. I accept your apology, and I'm grateful for the way it all turned out."
—Crowfeather and Lionblaze on their relationship Crowfeather's Trial

"No, he won't. He'll adjust in time. He'll have to find a different kind of courage, that's all. One that takes account of all limitations. He can't fight alone now; he must stay within his Clanmates. That might feel like failure to him, even though it's not."
―Bramblestar to Cinderheart about Lionblaze Bramblestar's Storm

"Yesterday, Cinderheart and I found out that we're expecting our second litter of kits. I can't have my kits born when every moment we're expecting to be driven out of our territory. Will the Clans even be here by then? For the first time, it seems possible that they won't."
―Lionblaze about defeating the Kin Shattered Sky

"Lionpaw is the warrior, a hunter and fighter as brave as Tigerstar. But then, he should be, since Firestar's old enemy has walked beside him in the forest, training him and encouraging him to be ever more fearless. Would Lionpaw have been so strong and skillful without this cat of shadows?"
―Rock questioning Lionpaw's abilities Cats of the Clans
