"But I don't want my life to change. I like my life the way it is now. All I ever wanted was to be a warrior, protecting my Clan."
— Lizardstripe to Hollyflower in Yellowfang's Secret, page 309

Lizardstripe is a pale brown tabby she-cat with a white underbelly and yellow eyes.[2]

Lizardstripe was a ShadowClan warrior in the forest territories. Lizardstripe became a reluctant mother to Mudclaw's kits, Runningnose, Tangleburr, and Deerfoot. She was hostile towards Brokenkit when she was forced to nurse him. Her bitterness and resentment towards Brokenstar is what led him down his path of hatred, something that Yellowfang deeply regrets.

In Yellowfang's Secret, Lizardstripe is a young warrior of ShadowClan. She and Foxheart continuously tease Yellowfang for deciding to train as a medicine cat. Around the same time Yellowfang's discovers her own pregnancy with Raggedpelt's kits, Lizardstripe reveals to Hollyflower about her own disdain for expecting Mudclaw's kits. She later gives birth to Runningkit, Tanglekit and Deerkit. After Yellowfang gives birth, she and Raggedpelt bring Brokenkit for Lizardstripe to nurse. Lizardstripe initially hostility refuses to care for the kit until Raggedpelt notes she would be nursing the Clan deputy's son. Lizardstripe doesn't intervene on her own kits tormenting Brokenkit, and never made him feel welcome in the nursery. When her kits become apprentices, she breaths a sigh of relief and returns to her warrior duties.

  • She is said to have two kits in Secrets of the Clans,[5] while in Yellowfang's Secret, she has three.[6]

Lizardstripe: "What is that?'"
Yellowfang: "It's a kit."
Raggedstar: "It's my kit."
Lizardstripe: "Oh, yes? What a miracle. If I'd known toms could have kits, I would have made Mudclaw have these brats of mine himself."

"Lizardstripe was there, of course, tending to her own two kits, born a few days earlier. Her pale brown tabby fur and white under-belly seemed to glow in the darkness of the nursery den. She looked at me with narrow, unfriendly eyes. I had never really liked or trusted Lizardstripe, but she was the only nursing queen at the moment. I had no choice."

"What kind of mouse-brained nonsense is that? Why should I have to put up with another mewling lump of fur? I didn't ask for these kits, either, but you don't see me dumping them on some other cat. It's not my job to take care of every unwanted kitten in the Clan."

"Hey, Yellowfang! Could you clean out my nest, too? I'd like some more feathers in it, please. And I think the elders would like some fresh-kill brought to them."

Lizardstripe: "You must be glad your kits are out of your paws and you can return to warrior duties."
Hollyflower: "But I miss them so much! They don't seem to need me at all now."
Lizardstripe: "Didn't you feel trapped while you were in the nursery? Missing patrols, and the chance to hunt for your Clan?"
Hollyflower: "Why would I feel trapped? Having kits to raise as warriors is the duty of every queen."
Lizardstripe: "Don't you think that's unfair? Toms can hunt and fight all their lives, and still have kits for the Clan."
Hollyflower: "I think that's a bit tough on the toms! Wait until you're expecting kits, Lizardstripe, then you'll feel differently."
Lizardstripe: "Actually, I don't."
