Chapter description
- A warrior of StarClan looks down from the sky at the lake and the Clan territories surrounding it. A half-moon floats in the sky, turning the lake water to silver and glittering on the snow-covered land. The StarClan warrior spots movement where the forest trees give way to the slopes of the moor.
- The warrior notes two tiny figures in the snow. The cat in the lead described as a brown tom with white splotches, whilst following close behind was a smaller, gray tabby tom with darker stripes. The StarClan warrior recognises the first tom as Puddleshine, the ShadowClan medicine cat, and the younger tom as his apprentice, Shadowpaw. The spirit cat notes that they were on their way to the Moonpool for the half-moon gathering.
- They focus intently on the tabby apprentice, showing appreciation at his determination to keep pace with his mentor through the snow and his anticipation of the coming meeting and sharing dreams with StarClan. The StarClan spirit states that there is no cat like the ShadowClan apprentice in all five of the Clans and that the Clans were to experience far-reaching changes. They directly state that the young apprentice will have an important part to play.
- The cat continues to watch as the two medicine cats trudge up the moorland slopes until their figures vanish upon the crest of the hill. On a final note, the spirit cat remarks with satisfaction that Shadowpaw's name would be remembered for as long as the Clans survive.
