Mallowkit and Dawnkit are born to Owlfur and Softwing of RiverClan. When the river begins to rise, lapping over the shore near the reed bed, it is noted that Mallowkit and Dawnkit had been forbidden to go near the river. As Oakheart, Hailstar, and Crookedjaw discuss if they should move Graypool and Softwing to the elders' den, Dawnkit and Mallowkit are seen peering outside the entrance, blinking in the rain. Crookedjaw notes that they looked more like apprentices every day. After Dawnkit tumbles out of the nursery to help Hailstar hunt mice, Mallowkit complains to Softwing, asking why she cannot go outside, but Dawnkit can.

Mallowkit later becomes Mallowtail, and her sister becomes Dawnbright. They are seen when Crookedstar returns to RiverClan after receiving his name and nine lives. When Stonefur awkwardly laps at his bloated belly, complaining that he is stuffed, Mallowtail pokes him, purring that he deserves it. She mentions that she had never seen anyone chase a Twoleg off before. It is then mentioned that Fallowtail had given up her den to Mallowtail and Dawnbright when she retired to the elders' den.

Leopardstar's Honor

Leopardfur spots Mallowkit and Dawnkit in the nursery with their mother while she, Petaldust, and Sedgecreek repair the nursery. Seasons later, Mallowtail and Voleclaw play with a moss ball while waiting for the Sunningrocks battle patrol to return. When the patrol returns heavily injured and news of Oakheart's death, Mallowtail helps Mudfur treat the injured. The next morning, Leopardfur asks Softwing to lead a hunting patrol and she beckons Mallowtail, Dawnbright, Sedgecreek, and Shimmerpelt with her.

Mallowtail later falls ill to a sickness, along with Shadepelt, Sedgecreek, and Tanglewhisker. They eventually recover, though Tanglewhisker dies. However, Mallowtail soon becomes poisoned from river prey with Birdsong and Heavystep. She and Heavystep manage to recover, though Birdsong dies. Leopardfur assumes ThunderClan poisoned them, though RiverClan later learns that Twolegs left some rubbish in the river that poisoned the fish. Mallowtail is later chosen to attend the Gathering.

Onestar's Confession

Mallowpaw is a RiverClan apprentice, and her mentor is revealed to be Rippleclaw.
