History

In The New Prophecy arc

Dawn

When ShadowClan are fleeing from their camp, he is with his mother, Tallpoppy, and his sister and brother, Applekit and Toadkit. The three kits then become close friends with Birchkit of ThunderClan during the Great Journey, them being a few of the only surviving kits. Later, an eagle attempts to fly off with Marshkit, but he is saved by Brackenfur, a warrior of ThunderClan, who jumps up and claws the eagle enough that its hold on Marshkit loosens. Marshkit is in quite a shock afterwards but makes a full recovery when the Clans stay with the Tribe of Rushing Water.

Starlight

After the Clans find the lake, their new home, Marshkit, Applekit, and Toadkit have trouble saying goodbye to their new ThunderClan friend, Birchkit. Their mothers pull them away.

In the Power of Three arc

Outcast

When two cats from the Tribe of Rushing Water arrive in ThunderClan, Birchfall remembers how he became friends with three ShadowClan kits during the Great Journey, Marshkit, Applekit, and Toadkit. He wonders aloud how they are doing now. Later, when Lionpaw and Brambleclaw are going to see Tawnypelt, Lionpaw remembers what Birchfall said and asks Toadfoot if he remembers Birchfall, mentioning what Birchfall said about Toadfoot and his littermates. There is a hint of sadness in the warrior's eyes, but he quickly pushes it away.

Onestar's Confession

As the ShadowClan camp is being destroyed by Twolegs, Tallpoppy tries to round up her kits, who are panicking, and Onewhisker and Firestar help gather them, with Onewhisker rescuing one from a monster. Tallpoppy worries about shelter for her kits.

Winds of Change

When Mudclaw recalls the Great Journey, he remembers how an eagle nearly took off with Marshkit until Brackenfur saved him.

• Marshkit was said to be growing up with his siblings at the time of the fourth Erin Hunter Chat, around the time Dark River was first published.
• Kate admits that she forgot about Marshkit, and doubts that he will make an appearance.

Continuity

The following information is from sources considered non-canon, retconned, or from adapted material.

• In Secrets of the Clans, Birchpaw speaks about his excitement in seeing Marshkit, Applekit, and Toadkit at his first Gathering. He wants to tell them that the thrush he had nearly caught had actually been an eagle. He is sure that they will be impressed.
• In Su Susann's "Missing Kits" on Vicky's Facebook, Snaketail and Smokefoot were the kits of Blackstar and Tallpoppy, born in A Dangerous Path. Blackstar also fathered Tallpoppy's second litter, Applefur, Toadfoot, and Marshkit. Marshkit was also described as a white tom with light brown paws and amber eyes with six toes on one paw. Marshkit was strangled by a fox-trap not long after Berrykit lost his tail-tip to one, and died.
