History

Bright Stream confesses she always imagined she’d be raising her kits in the mountains. When the Tribe are casting stones on if cats can leave, Bright Stream votes to leave and says she did it for their kits. During the journey to their new home, Clear Sky says he may decide to eat more fish if his kits develop a taste for it. Gray Wing asks Clear Sky if he is having kits and his brother nods. He explains Bright Stream thinks so and explains he knows it isn’t good timing, right at the beginning of the journey but cannot wait to be a father to these kits. Gray Wing tells Bright Stream that Clear Sky told him about the kits and announces it’s great. Bright Stream confesses she doesn’t want the other cats to know yet, and Gray Wing mentions the kits will be a great start for their new home. When the cats are trapped by eagles and form a plan to escape, Shaded Moss sets Bright Stream as a runner but Clear Sky protests. Gray Wing knows this is because he is worried about the kits. Bright Stream is taken by an eagle and Clear Sky panics they have to get her, as she is carrying kits. Gray Wing feels terrible, knowing the tiny lives were destroyed with their mother. After a rest, Clear Sky decides to journey onward for his kits. Later, Dappled Pelt tells Clear Sky Bright Stream would have been a wonderful mother to the kits. Soon after Clear Sky confesses he should not have let Bright Stream fight the eagles while carrying kits.

Moons later, Gray Wing recalls how Bright Stream was carrying kits when she died. When Quiet Rain dies, Bright Stream appears and Thunder wonders if Star Flower can see the cat that was carrying Clear Sky’s kits.

When Bright Stream appears to Gray Wing, her two kits stand at her paws. Their mother touches her nose to each of the kits' heads. She explains they are her kits she had when she died. Gray Wing tells Clear Sky that his kits are beside him, and Clear Sky responds with his kits. He asks if he can see them now and Gray Wing explains he can. They were being carried by their mother when she died. He describes them as beautiful. Bright Stream says they always stay with her. When Gray Wing's spirit leaves his body, all the starry cats, including the kits, step aside to let him pass. Their fur brushes Gray Wing's and they give him welcoming purrs.

In The Ultimate Guide, the narrator mentions that Gray Wing blamed himself for the death of Bright Stream’s and Clear Sky’s unborn kits. The narrator also mentions that Clear Sky was in love with Bright Stream, who was expecting his kits.

Storm's two kits

"He’d fought through dust and rubble to try to save her and her kits. She’d tried to raise them alone and it had killed her and two of her kits."

History

Storm mentions she and Clear Sky will be happy to have their kits in the forest. Clear Sky snaps at Storm for leaving camp, asking about their kits. Later, Storm is seen with belly swollen with kits. Had enough of Clear Sky, Storm declares she is going to live in the Twolegplace as they’ll be better shelter for the kits when they are born. Gray Wing tries to persuade Clear Sky to bring Storm back and help her raise the kits, but the tom refuses. Later, Gray Wing notes that the kits would have been born by now. He goes to see Storm and notes she has had kits, asking how they are. Storm explains she had three kits and they are fine. Gray Wing asks where are they and if he can see them, but Storm says no. Gray Wing insists they're his family too and she knows he wouldn’t hurt them, but Storm insists they’re her kits. Gray Wing wonders why she doesn’t want help looking after the kits, and notes he cannot give up as the kits are part of his family. He catches a hare, noting he’ll help feed the kits. A monster attacks Storm’s den, and Gray Wing thinks Storm must have brought her kits to safety. The den collapses, and the limp bodies of the two kits are next to Storm as she tried to protect them. Storm raises her head to see her kits, saying her kits and stating she wanted to protect them. Gray Wing rescues the kits’ brother and tells Turtle Tail that the two kits are dead. He also tells Clear Sky how he and Turtle Tail reached the den to witness the two kits’ deaths.

Later, Thunder remembers how his littermates were lost forever. Turtle Tail also mentions how when the Twoleg den collapsed, the two kits’ were killed. As Thunder looks at Turtle Tail’s kits, Gray Wing guesses he is remembering his siblings, now gone forever. Gray Wing remembers how he fought dust and rubble to try to save the two kits after Storm tried to raise them alone, and it killed them. Thunder also remembers how Hawk Swoop raised him after Storm and the two kits were killed. Thunder later tells Star Flower about how his two siblings died when the Twoleg den they lived in was destroyed. Later, Clear Sky thinks how different it would be if he didn’t let Storm leave with the kits. Clear Sky soon notes his hunger for power drove away Storm while she was carrying kits. Later, Thunder thinks if Clear Sky showed concern for the two kits, they could still be alive. When Nettle is testing Red, Nettle explains how Clear Sky wasn’t kind to his first litter. Their mother ran away from the tom, and Red asks what happened to Thunder’s littermates. Nettle says no one knows. Many moons later, Thunderstar recalls how his own littermates, whom he barely remembers, were killed by Twoleg monsters with their mother. The tom notes they were much smaller than Beech Tail and Patch Pelt.

In The Ultimate Guide, the narrator mentions the kits many times. On Gray Wing’s page, it is mentioned how Storm left the forest when expecting kits. Gray Wing risked his life to save one of Storm’s three kits but was not able to save two kits. On Clear Sky’s page, it is mentioned that Storm bore three kits but only one survived after the Twoleg den they lived in collapsed. On Storm’s page, it is mentioned she became impatient when Clear Sky tried to pamper her while she was carrying kits. She made a nest in an abandoned Twoleg den where she had Thunder and the kits. However, the two kits died when Twolegs demolished the den.
