«Spotted Fur was a new member of the group—a golden brown tom whose mother had hunted with Slate in her rogue days. Spotted Fur had left his mother and littermates when they’d moved on to new territory. [...] Wind Runner hadn’t been keen to accept a rogue as a campmate, but Slate had vouched for him, swearing that his mother was a kindhearted cat and a good hunter.»
—Gray Wing's thoughts on Spotted Fur and his mother Path of Stars, page 28
Gray Wing notes that Spotted Fur's mother once hunted with Slate. Her son left her when she and her other kits left for a different territory. Wind Runner was hesitant to let Spotted Fur join her group, but Slate swore his mother was a good hunter with a kind heart.
Reed fights a tortoiseshell she-cat, and Gray Wing grabs her tail after Star Flower runs away. He pins her down and slashes her muzzle, and the tortoiseshell’s eyes were in fear. Gray Wing tells her if she leaves Star Flower to be, he would free her, and frightened, the rogue she-cat agrees, returning to the carrionplace. When attacking Wind Runner's camp, she aims at Gray Wing’s hind leg, and he tries to dodge, but the tortoiseshell she-cat sank her teeth into Gray Wing’s fur, and he falls.

She defends herself from the rogue tom when Gorse Fur fights Beetle.
