After teaching River Ripple to fish, he asks Night and Mist if they have mates. Night huskily remarks that she used to have a mate and kits. River Ripple wonders if the river had carried them away, but decides not to ask. Moons later, Night reveals that her mate and kits died, and she does not want to get close with another cat at the moment.

The others join in and continue to assault River Ripple until Hawk calls them off. He warns River Ripple what will happen in the future if he ignores his warnings, and the four rogues leave.

While Hawk's rogues attack him, River Ripple recalls his first fight with a silver tabby from beyond the park wall. Arc, Shine, and Dart had helped Ripple to fight off the rogue.
The spirit cats lead River Ripple to the four trees where the Great Battle is occurring. He's horrified by the death, and a tom spirit encourages him to unite the fighting cats by helping them communicate with the spirits.
Riverstar, Arc, and Drizzle spy on Slash's occupation of the Cats of the Park. He spots Dart providing prey to a board-shouldered rogue, who swipes at him. During the battle, Dart attacks the broad-shouldered rogue.
Riverstar, Arc, and Drizzle pass by Snail and a tortoiseshell she-cat on their way to Slash's camp. Riverstar is pleased the two rogues are sleeping while on guard duty. When the camp is deserted, Riverstar prods the tortoiseshell awake, and she calls to Snail to announce the intruders. During the battle, the tortoiseshell rogue attacks Riverstar with Snail, and later goes after Arc with Beetle.
While teaching Finch how to hunt, Riverstar recalls how Finch told him that she used to have a mate and a litter of kits. Her mate had died and her kits had gone to live as kittypets.

During the battle against SkyClan, Shattered Ice fights against a ginger warrior. The RiverClan tom drives her towards the river before racing towards the tree-bridge.
