History

Jagged Lightning mentions that Shy Fawn is carrying Dark Whiskers kits and asks how she is supposed to raise the kits in the cave. Jay's Wing sees Shy Fawn and knows her kits are not far from being born. When Furled Bracken plans to leave the mountains, Shy Fawn asks if the father of her kits died for nothing. She explains she cannot travel until her kits are born and strong enough to travel too. Later, Jay's Wing spots Shy Fawn and notes her kits will be born soon. Shy Fawn soon cries her kits are coming and Jay's Wing wonders how many kits she is having. Owl Feather asks how many kits she is having and Jay's Wing believes it is three at least. Jay's Wing tells Shy Fawn he believes the first is coming, and the small bundle slides out onto the cave floor. Half Moon cushions the kit and nudges him to his mother. She announces it is a little tom and asks if he is beautiful. Shy Fawn gazes down at the kit, feeling overwhelming love for him. She notes that he is black just like his father Dark Whiskers. She bends her head to lick the kit's fur. Stone Song returns from hunting and he exclaims that Shy Fawn's kits are here. Jay's Wing tells Stone Song that the hare's pelt will be good at keeping the kit's warm when it's ready. Shy Fawn gives birth to two other kits, and they and the black tom begin to squeak and wriggle. Shy Fawn guides the kits towards her teats but Jay's Wing stops her. The mother gives birth to one more kit and collapses, so Half Moon guides the black kit and his siblings into the curve of her belly. The kits latch to a teat, their high-pitched complaints die away to silence as they start to suckle. The black tom's golden brother starts to suckle strongly next to him and their littermates. Dove's Wing watches Shy Fawn caring for the black kit and his siblings.
