While searching the Twolegplace for catmint, the tiny she-kit confronts Nightheart, Sunbeam, Lightleap, Alderheart, and Fidgetflake exploring their garden. Nightheart is bewildered that a small kit would recklessly challenge a large group of cats. He is also puzzled by the she-kit's unusually round ears that resemble a mouse's. The she-cat threatens to call her mother. The she-kit's mother appears and briefly challenges the Clan cats until they explain they are looking for catmint. The she-kit asks what catmint is and her mother explains it is a plant, pointing the Clan cats towards a nearby Twoleg nest. As she leaves, she carries her kit away while she complains.
While searching a Twoleg nest for catmint, the gray she-cat finds her kit challenging six cats in their garden. She steps in front of her daughter and challenges them, though she relaxes when Alderheart and Fidgetflake explain they are searching for catmint since one of their kits is sick with greencough. The gray queen is sympathetic to their quest, and she points out the nearby Twoleg nest that has catmint. As the Clan cats leave, the gray kittypet hopes their kit will recover as she carries her daughter away.
