"Gazing at the stars and imagining your ancestors are looking back at you? I've listened to plenty of tales about what happens on the other side of those hills. As long as they don't trouble me, I don't care what those cats get up to."
As an unnamed cat approaches a hedge, another cat leaps out, a tough, lean, gray tom. The gray tom asks the traveling cat what he was doing on his land, telling him that he doesn't like hosting strangers on his territory. They have a conversation, which strays to the gray tom asking the traveler if he was one of the cats living at the lake. The gray tom states that he has heard many tales of the cats by the lake gazing at the stars, surprising the travelling tom. The travelling tom soon leaves the gray tom's territory.
