In the bonus scene, Night and her brother live near the river in the forest. When Ripple swims across the river to the island, he meets Night. After exchanging pleasantries, Night offers for the newcomer to hunt with her and her brother.

Mist and his sister Night live near the river. When Night meets River Ripple, she fetches her brother Mist to teach the new tom how to catch fish. The three cats share their prey while River Ripple explains his past with the Cats of the Park. Mist and Night live on the other side of the river in open dens, but they visit River Ripple in his nest occasionally to share prey or exchange herbs. The two siblings go on a short wander while Hawk terrorizes River Ripple. When Night disappears on her own wander around newleaf, Mist tells River Ripple that she likes to be alone. Mist and Night join an informal group with River Ripple, and Mist shares prey with the other loners. When Croak suggests they should settle in a hollow thicket, Mist jokes that Silver growls in her sleep, but the gray tabby she-cat snaps that Mist yowls in his sleep as well.

Mist worries when Casper wounds Night, and he tells River Ripple that Night is getting worse the next morning. River Ripple fetches Dappled Pelt from the moor group to treat Night's infected injuries. Later, Mist and River Ripple are hunting in the river at night when Mist spots a fire in the forest. River Ripple tells Mist to warn their rivermates while he checks out the forest. He later leaves on a short wander with Hollow, where they encounter One Eye. When he returns, River Ripple formally establishes his own group with Mist, Night, Croak, and Hollow, with River Ripple leading. Mist participates in the battle against One Eye. Later, River Ripple and Night speculate on trainers for the kits, with Night suggesting that Pine work with Mist.

Seasons later, Mist, Pine Needle, Hollow, Croak, Spider Paw, and Riverstar are prepared to hunt in the rapids when Lightning Tail and Cloud Spots arrive with Arc. When Riverstar agrees to go with Arc to help him and the Cats of the Park defeat Slash, Mist is skeptical, but he eventually relents when Riverstar promises to come back. Mist warmly greets Riverstar when he and Drizzle return. Riverstar later instructs Mist and Kite Wing to gather willow stems to build a nursery for Finch. When Pine Needle is named a warrior, Mist congratulates his former apprentice and says there is a nest next to his in the warriors' den. After Riverstar returns from the Gathering, Mist frantically tells his Clan leader that Finch is giving birth. Once the kits are born, Mist argues with Dew that he should meet the newborns first since he has been part of RiverClan since the start. Mist participates in the battle against SkyClan and swipes SkyClan warriors off the tree-bridge. After SkyClan flees, Mist, Hollow, and Shattered Ice help to shove the tree bridge into the water to prevent SkyClan from returning.
