"I think I speak for all of us when I tell you that we pledge ourselves to do whatever it takes to find SkyClan and complete the quest."
— Molewhisker to Alderpaw in The Apprentice's Quest, page 191

Molewhisker is a large[9] brown-and-cream tom[2] with amber eyes.[10]

Molewhisker is a ThunderClan warrior who has served under Bramblestar's, the impostor's, Squirrelflight's, Lionblaze's, and Graystripe's leaderships in the lake territories. He was born as Molekit to Poppyfrost and Berrynose with his sister, Cherrykit. As an apprentice, Molepaw was apprenticed to Rosepetal and took part in the Great Battle as a messenger, and soon after received his warrior name, Molewhisker. After his first apprentice, Alderheart, chose to become a medicine cat, Molewhisker was assigned to join his quest to find SkyClan. He later trained another apprentice, Honeyfur, and volunteered to lead SkyClan back to the gorge in search of their missing Clanmates. Molewhisker fought on the side of the impostor during the battle of the rebels, and his father, Berrynose, was killed in the battle.

Omen of the Stars

"I don't want to be an apprentice! You only want us so we can do all the nasty jobs."
―Molekit to Firestar during his apprentice ceremony The Forgotten Warrior, page 49
Molekit and Cherrykit are born during a greenleaf drought to Poppyfrost and Berrynose. He is apprenticed to Rosepetal, and while training, a fox attacks Molepaw and his sister, but an unknown cat saves them. Soon after, Sol returns to ThunderClan claiming he was the one who fought the fox. During the Great Battle, Molepaw and Cherrypaw are messengers between the Clans, and he is assigned to WindClan and RiverClan.

A Vision of Shadows

"Molewhisker seemed almost more like a Clanmate than Sparrowpelt or Harrybrook. He shared his prey, and he was as protective of the apprentices as any of SkyClan's warriors. When Nectarpaw had wandered too close to a Twoleg patrol, he had rushed to shoo her away."
―Violetpaw's thoughts on Molewhisker Darkest Night, page 232
He becomes Alderpaw's mentor, but and often becomes frustrated with his unskilled apprentice. Because of his trouble with hunting, Alderpaw becomes a medicine cat apprentice and is given a sign to go on a quest to find SkyClan. Molewhisker, Cherryfall, Sandstorm, and Sparkpaw join the patrol. They reach the gorge, only to find SkyClan has been chased out by rogues. When Molewhisker returns to ThunderClan, he gains a new apprentice, Honeypaw. After Twigpaw finds SkyClan and leads them back to the lake, Molewhisker accompanies Hawkwing's patrol to find missing SkyClan cats back at the gorge.

The Broken Code

"He's probably just making up stories to explain why he's here. It's probably the same reason he came last time. Every cat knows he has a crush on Bristlefrost. He probably just wanted to see her. [...] Even if Bristlefrost knew nothing about it, you know how what young cats are like when they like some cat. They act first and think later."
―Molewhisker to Bramblestar's impostor about Rootpaw The Silent Thaw, page 147
Molewhisker's patrol catches Rootpaw sneaking into ThunderClan's camp to speak to Squirrelflight, noting Rootpaw's obvious infatuation with Bristlefrost. When the impostor named Bristlefrost his deputy, Molewhisker questions why he was breaking the warrior code since Bristlefrost hasn't mentored an apprentice, though the impostor snaps that the warrior code says the Clan leader's word is law. Molewhisker participates in the battle against the impostor, and his father, Berrynose, is killed.

"We didn't know they'd attack it! We just wanted to scare them!"
―Molepaw about the fox Dovewing's Silence, page chapter 9
In Dovewing's Silence, Molepaw and Cherrypaw remain distrustful towards the former Dark Forest trainees. The apprentices devise a plan to lead them to a crazed, trapped fox in order to scare them. Though the fox is killed, it injures many, and the apprentices are scolded for their recklessness. Ultimately, Molepaw and Cherrypaw make amends with the Dark Forest trainees.

Molepaw's apprentice ceremony
Firestar: Yes, there are duties to be done, but every single warrior here did them. And training is just as important. That's why I've chosen Rosepetal to be your mentor. She's a skilled and swift fighter, and I know she'll pass her training on to you.
Firestar: From this time forward, this kit will be known as Molepaw. Now, go and touch noses with Rosepetal.

Molewhisker is loyal, determined, and brave. He is much quieter[11] and less enthusiastic[12] than his sister, Cherryfall, and has little interest in kits.[11]

Interesting facts

  • In The Forgotten Warrior, Molewhisker and Cherryfall are said to be almost six moons old.[14] However, judging by the season they were born and the season they were apprenticed in, both of them were over a year old and roughly six moons late in being apprenticed.[15][3]
  • He and Cherryfall are mistakenly listed as kits in the allegiances in The Forgotten Warrior[16] and The Last Hope,[17] despite having already been apprenticed.[3]
  • He was mistakenly described as brown-and-white.[18]
  • He was said to be helping Snowbush during the mudslide, despite being on the journey with SkyClan.[19]
  • He is called Mousewhisker.[20]
