Chapter description[]

At a Gathering, Moth Flight observes Slate scolding her kits not to be so excitable, as this is their first Gathering. She thinks of her own kits, who are being watched by Rocky back at camp. Wind Runner left many warriors to defend the camp due to the border tensions with SkyClan. Dappled Pelt asks how Moth Flight's kits are doing, and Cloud Spots remarks that he is sure Micah is watching them from StarClan. Moth Flight encourages Silver Stripe, Black Ear, and White Tail to speak with Drizzle and Pine Needle. Dappled Pelt and Moth Flight comfort Slate about the loss of Gray Wing.
Wind Runner accuses Thunder of defending Clear Sky, and River Ripple steps between them, stating that they should wait to let Clear Sky speak for himself. Moth Flight, Dappled Pelt, and Cloud Spots worry that the tension between SkyClan and WindClan will interfere with their medicine cat duties and that Clear Sky will be unwilling to listen to them. Moth Flight recalls that Sparrow Fur and Acorn Fur both deny SkyClan hunting on WindClan's land, but that Willow Tail swears Red Claw has stolen WindClan prey.
Wind Runner decides to start the meeting without Clear Sky, who has still not arrived. She proposes that the Clans should no longer consider SkyClan one of them. Thunder and River Ripple argue that Clear Sky should be given a fair hearing first, but Tall Shadow agrees with Wind Runner. The medicine cats and Thunder argue that the Clans must unite or die, and that they cannot turn their tails on SkyClan. Juniper Branch says that the Clans should work together, and that she only survived her kitting because of Moth Flight's help. Willow Tail claims that the Clans don't need medicine cats, but River Ripple quiets her by asking if she thinks she knows better than StarClan. Wind Runner decides to cut off SkyClan and forbids Acorn Fur from attending the medicine cat meetings.
Sparrow Fur arrives at the Gathering and calls for help from a medicine cat. She says that Tiny Branch has been bitten by a fox and Acorn Fur is unable to treat him alone. Cloud Spots, Dappled Pelt, Pebble Heart, and Moth Flight rush forward to help, but Wind Runner forbids Moth Flight from going, and Shattered Ice blocks her path. Dust Muzzle and River Ripple convince them to let Moth Flight go.
At the SkyClan camp, the medicine cats find Tiny Branch badly wounded, and Clear Sky and Star Flower are anxious to save him. Red Claw shows Dappled Pelt where Acorn Fur stores her herbs while the medicine cats work together to treat Tiny Branch, but he dies. Moth Flight anxiously thinks of her own kits, and she tells Clear Sky that he needs to speak with Wind Runner. She rushes back to the WindClan camp and finds her kits safe with Rocky.
