"I've been talking to Red Claw. He and Willow Tail go back a long way. Willow Tail has been lying for moons. She's been spreading half-truths and stirring up trouble just to settle scores that have nothing to do with the Clans."
Below contains in-depth information for chapter twenty-nine of Moth Flight's Vision. If you are looking for a shorter summary of the entire book, please check the main article.
Moth Flight asks Slate to watch her kits. The gray she-cat seems exhausted after the previous night's Gathering, but agrees to help. Moth Flight wishes she had more time for her kits, but is determined to dedicate herself to her medicine cat duties. She regrets being unable to save Tiny Branch, and thinks that Rocky needs her more than her kits do. Spider Paw and Honey Pelt beg Moth Flight to let them explore the moor, playfighting to demonstrate that they can defend themselves. Moth Flight looks around for another cat who can watch her kits, but most are out on patrol, and she's unwilling to ask Wind Runner.
The medicine cat brings comfrey and catmint to Rocky. She hears a shout outside and sees Slate standing over Blue Whisker, who is lying still on the ground while her littermates gather around in shock. Slate says that she had just closed her eyes for a moment, and Honey Pelt explains that his sister was trying to climb the tall rock where Wind Runner speaks to the Clan. Blue Whisker wakes up and Moth Flight checks her for injuries before scolding her. Honey Pelt, Spider Paw, and Bubbling Stream confess that Rocky let them all climb the rock the night before during the Gathering, but held Blue Whisker back because he didn't believe she was ready.
To Moth Flight's surprise, Wind Runner comes to check on Blue Whisker. Moth Flight realizes that Slate is sick and sends her to rest while Spotted Fur plays moss ball with the kits. Reed Tail asks about Slate, and Moth Flight directs him to finish treating Rocky. Wind Runner explains to Moth Flight that she rejected SkyClan because she believes it's what's best for WindClan. She says it isn't easy to ensure the safety of every cat. Moth Flight argues that Tiny Branch died because of the conflict between SkyClan and WindClan. Their quarrel escalates until Moth Flight snaps that she wishes the loss of Wind Runner's kits had made her softer and Wind Runner tells her daughter to never question her again. Moth Flight checks on Slate and finds that she has developed redcough. She has a high fever and is coughing up blood. Reed Tail offers to fetch more bark to treat her, but Moth Flight says that her attempt to save Tiny Branch's life must mean something to Clear Sky, and she hopes that he will allow her to gather the bark. She runs into Spotted Fur, who insists on going along, and Gorse Fur agrees to look after the kits.
Willow Tail meets them at the border, and Spotted Fur tells her to wait there and fetch help if they don't return. Spotted Fur climbs the tree and retrieves the bark, and Moth Flight is overwhelmed with grief for Micah as she remembers his death. Nettle, Birch, and Alder intercept the WindClan cats near the border, accusing them of stealing. They escort Moth Flight and Spotted Fur to the WindClan camp to meet with Clear Sky. The SkyClan leader is grief-stricken and appears confused. He tells them no cat is allowed on SkyClan land, and decides to keep the WindClan cats captive until Wind Runner arrives to bring them home. Clear Sky reveals that Willow Tail has been lying and agitating the border conflict in order to settle an old score with Red Claw. Moth Flight worries that Wind Runner is too proud to rescue her warriors, and is furious to be kept from her kits and Slate. Clear Sky ignores her protests.
