Chapter description[]
- As Moth Flight chases the moth upslope, she realizes that there were rain clouds on the horizon and needed to hurry. Noticing that she was tired after tending to Wind Runner for so long, Moth Flight pushes her body to continue running. The moth flutters towards Highstones, waiting for her to catch up. Once Moth Flight nears, it flies back toward the moor, getting tossed back and forth by the breeze. She recalls her dreams, how a cat was always accompanied when travelling to the Moonstone. Upon arriving, StarClan would gift that cat something. Moth Flight manages to figure out the meaning of the moth's actions. She asks if it wanted her to bring Wind Runner to Highstones. It flutters up higher into the rain, and knowing that she was right, Moth Flight races towards camp.
- Dust Muzzle, Spotted Fur, and Fern Leaf return from a hunting patrol, and her kits call to her when Moth Flight passes by. Slowing down, she sees that Black Ear has caught a rabbit, but distracted, tells them to shelter with Slate and Swift Minnow. Thinking about how she would convince Gorse Fur, she ignores Bubbling Stream and Spider Paw. Jagged Peak states that she should pay more attention to them, but paying no heed, Moth Flight pads into the medicine cat den.
- Moth Flight tells Gorse Fur that she had a sign from StarClan, and explains her interpretation of the moth. Gorse Fur hisses in anger, growling that Wind Runner could not travel that far. Her mother lies on the heather, and Moth Flight, for a moment, thinks she is dead. But when she checks, Moth Flight realizes that Wind Runner was still alive. Moth Flight starts assembling some herbs for the WindClan leader, adding in some poppy seeds to ease the pain. Gorse Fur furiously mews that if Wind Runner was going to die, she should die with her Clan. Moth Flight angrily responds that Wind Runner wouldn't die if she was brought to the Moonstone.
- Jagged Peak enters the den, asking if she had spoken with StarClan. Moth Flight states that they had not said exactly what to do, but she knew what StarClan was telling her. Gorse Fur once again brings up her mother's health condition, and drags her back when Moth Flight attempts to give Wind Runner some herbs for the trip. Moth Flight hisses that they needed to trust her and StarClan, and they continue arguing before Dust Muzzle intervenes. Dust Muzzle gently asks if she was ever wrong, and that they should let her go. Gorse Fur reluctantly admits that Moth Flight always was correct when it came to StarClan.
- Wind Runner wakes up, and tells them that she trusted Moth Flight, and that she would go to the Moonstone. The injured she-cat laps up the herbs, and mews that she was proud of her daughter. As Moth Flight supports Wind Runner, they slowly make their way towards the den entrance when Gorse Fur states that he would go with them. However, Wind Runner refuses, saying that the next WindClan leader needed to be alive, and at camp. Dust Muzzle and Spotted Fur decide to leave with them, but the Clan's protests stops them. Moth Flight's kits beg her to stay, and she avoids their gaze, her heart breaking. Gorse Fur calms down the Clan, and promising that Wind Runner would survive, they depart for Highstones.
- Moth Flight takes the lead, but when she turns back, she realizes how much her mother was lagging behind. Despairing that with this pace, they wouldn't get there in time, Moth Flight has a brief thought of getting there before the moon rose. Moth Flight gazes down at the Thunderpath, and she races back towards Wind Runner, noting that blood streaming from the she-cat's neck. Spotted Fur tells them that there was a way to get across the busy Thunderpath. He explains that they needed to stop in the middle, because there was a narrow channel where the monsters didn't run on.
- When they near, a large gap opens up before them, and they race for the middle, managing not to get hit by any of the monsters. They run the final stretch of the Thunderpath, and gasping, make it across. Slowly making way across the muddy plains, Moth Flight searches for any poppy seeds as Wind Runner holds back agonized gasps, wondering if she was wrong. Dust Muzzle assures her that she was always right, and that Wind Runner wouldn't die. Moth Flight hurries towards the WindClan leader as she rests on the ground, and looking at Highstones, spots the moth. Moth Flight urges for her the brown she-cat to hurry, and that they needed to beat the moon. Wind Runner is amused before her legs buckle and she supports the wiry leader. Glancing at the sky again, she prays that her mother would be alright.
