"Her dreams belonged to StarClan now. Every hair in her pelt, every beat of her heart, every breath belonged to them." |
— Moth Flight on being a medicine cat in Moth Flight's Vision, page 479 |
Moth Flight is a graying,[13] snowy[14]-white she-cat with bright green eyes,[15] and short fur.[blog 2]
Moth Flight was the first medicine cat of WindClan under Windstar's leadership in the forest territories. She was born to Wind Runner and Gorse Fur alongside her siblings, Dust Muzzle, Morning Whisker, and Emberkit on the moor. As she grew, Moth Flight was exiled for a brief time as she followed a moth, discovering the Moonstone, and afterwards, Moth Flight became close with SkyClan's medicine cat, Micah, later becoming his mate. She mourned Micah's death heavily and stayed briefly in ShadowClan when she learned that she was expecting his kits. She gave birth to Blue Whisker, Bubbling Stream, Spider Paw, and Honey Pelt; however, Moth Flight struggled to find balance between motherhood and her duties to her Clan as a medicine cat and later decided to give her kits up, splitting them up among each Clan. Thereafter, she established the rule that no medicine cat could have a mate or kits. After her death, Moth Flight ascended to StarClan and reunited with Micah. She later appeared at both Heatherstar‘s and Tallstar’s nine lives ceremonies.

Trivia
Interesting facts
- Moth Flight has attention deficit disorder.[blog 3]
- Moth Flight was the cat who named StarClan.[21]
Author statements
- Kate has said the reason why Moth Flight currently doesn't hold a grudge towards Yellowfang for breaking the medicine cat code despite having yet to forgive Leafpool for it is because Yellowfang had suffered much more in her lifetime than Leafpool ever did. Moth Flight felt that Yellowfang had already atoned for her crimes by the time she reached StarClan.[blog 4]
Mistakes
- She, Morning Whisker, and Dust Muzzle are accidentally listed under Clear Sky's camp in the allegiances for The Blazing Star,[22] as she and her siblings are shown to be living with their parents in Tall Shadow's camp.[23]
- In The Ultimate Guide, it states that Moth Flight was lead by a blue feather to the Moonstone, though she actually followed a green moth.[7]
- She is mistakenly called a rogue despite being a loner at the time.[7]
- She is mistakenly called Mothflight.[1]
Continuity
The following information is from sources considered non-canon or retconned.
- In Secrets of the Clans, a 2007 field guide, Mothflight is an ancient WindClan cat. She is restless, absent-minded, and easily distracted. Moth flight follows a feather close to the Thunderpath, where a monster approaches her, and Gorsefur saves her life. When Wind asks what she was doing, Mothflight claims that she felt the feather was calling to her, and Wind exiles her from WindClan. She discovers the Moonstone and is told by the spirit cats to find Cloudspots of ThunderClan, Dappledpelt of RiverClan, and Pebbleheart of ShadowClan, and bring them to the Moonstone at the next half-moon as the Clans' first medicine cats.[24] Her descendants live on in WindClan through Ashfoot and Crowfeather.[25]
