Mud is a brown tabby tom.[2]
In Tree's Roots, Mud is a tom from The Sisters. Mud is mentioned two days after Stream dies, when Earth confesses to his mother that he cannot see spirits yet. He brings up Mud and Spider, who had been sent to their wander before they ever saw spirits, and asks if she thinks their ancestors ever came to the two older toms. Moonlight admits she doesn't know and has to believe they did, but cannot know for certain since the toms had been sent away.
