StormClan's Folly

"Mudsplash was my Clanmate. But he was also my friend. He was loyal and true, first to WindClan and later to StormClan. He fought beside us at Sunningrocks, and no cat was more courageous. He braved the Thunderpath. The mountains. He never doubted us. He never complained. I will miss him."

Mudsplash is a WindClan warrior. He participates in the battle for Sunningrocks alongside ThunderClan, enabling both WindClan and ThunderClan to share hunting rights. He later joins StormClan when his leader Galestar merges the Clan with ThunderClan. Mudsplash participates in StormClan's journey to find a new home outside of the forest. When they encounter an apple forest, Mudsplash and Hazelfrond climb some branches and report Twolegs ahead. In newleaf, StormClan settles in a swamp. After an argument with Stripestar, Galestar orders Mudsplash and Harewhisker on a hunting patrol with her. However, the two toms abruptly collapse and vomit. Goldenleaf and Stoneflower suspect they might have eaten something rotten, though both medicine cats are skeptical about effectively treating them without proper herbs.

Two days later, a mink attacks StormClan's camp. In the confusion of the fight, Mudsplash and Harewhisker are left exposed in the temporary medicine den. The beast clamps its jaws around Mudsplash's neck and drags his body through the mud. It drops Mudsplash, and the Clan manages to kill it. Mudsplash is gravely injured but alive. StormClan leaves the swamp shortly after, though Mudsplash has to be supported by his Clanmates to walk. Galestar is reminded of their days playing together as apprentices and wishes for him to recover. She orders Tinyclaw to find herbs for the medicine cats, though Goldenleaf is unsure how effective they are since she is unfamiliar with these strange herbs.

Mudsplash dies a half moon later after slipping in and out of consciousness. Galestar reflects how it was almost a relief that he is finally at peace. StormClan holds a vigil, and Mudsplash's death prompts Galestar to finally convince Stripestar that they must leave the swamp. Galestar is frequently reminded of his death when she recounts StormClan's sufferings.
