Various characters in the Warriors series are named after a specific individual, usually after a close friend, family, or dead cat. There are also cases of naming a cat after an event that occured beforehand. Reasons vary between each named individual.

Named after another individual

ThunderClan

Character Named after Notes
Thunderstar[1] Storm Turtle Tail named Thunder after the collapsing building he was born in, and his deceased mother, Storm.
Lightning Stripe[2] Lightning Tail Lightning Stripe was named in memory of Lightning Tail, Thunderstar's closest friend and former deputy.
Sweetpaw[3] Sweetbriar Sweetpaw was named after Pinestar's mother, Sweetbriar.
Leafpool[4] Leafstar & Spottedleaf Leafpool was named after Leafstar by Firestar and Sandstorm, though Firestar notes that her name may have come from Spottedleaf's suffix.
Jayfeather[5] Crowfeather Leafpool chose Jayfeather's suffix in memory of his biological father, Crowfeather.
Hollyleaf[6] Leafpool Hollyleaf's suffix was named after her biological mother, Leafpool.
Brambleclaw[7] Tigerclaw Bramblestar's warrior name, Brambleclaw, was named after his father's: Tigerclaw.
Cinderheart[8] Cinderpelt Cinderheart is named after her paternal aunt, Cinderpelt, who died protecting Sorreltail during Cinderheart's birth.
Hollytuft[9] Hollyleaf Hollytuft is named after her paternal aunt Hollyleaf.
Sorrelstripe[9] Sorreltail Sorrelstripe is named after her grandmother Sorreltail.
Fernsong[9] Ferncloud Fernsong is named after Ferncloud, who died in the Great Battle.

ShadowClan

Character Named after Notes
Badgerfang[10] Flintfang Badgerfang chose his warrior name, Badgerfang, after his uncle and mentor Flintfang.
Tigerstar[11] Tigerstar Tigerstar was named after his maternal grandfather, Tigerstar. The reasoning is unknown.
Spireclaw[12] Spiresight Berryheart named Spireclaw after Spiresight following his death.
Shadowsight[13] Shadowsight was named after Spiresight's suffix.

SkyClan

Character Named after Notes
Star Flower[14] The Blazing Star Star Flower was named after the Blazing Star, and her eyes have the five petals reflected in them.
Dew Petal[blog 1] Petal Skystar named his daughter after his dear friend, Petal, who died of a sickness.
Firefern[15] Firestar Leafstar named her daughter after Firestar, who reinstated SkyClan.
Stormheart[15] Sandstorm Leafstar named her daughter after Sandstorm, who helped reinstate SkyClan.
Harrybrook[15] Sol Leafstar named her son after Harry, a kittypet who helped her escape from a Twoleg, though this was before she was aware of his true name: Sol.
Violetshine[16] Pebbleshine Violetshine's suffix was named after her mother; Pebbleshine.
Needlepaw[blog 2] Needletail Needlepaw was named after Violetshine's deceased friend, Needletail.

WindClan

Crowfeather[17] Feathertail Crowfeather requested his suffix to be -feather in memorial of Feathertail.

RiverClan

Stonefur[18] Stonepelt Stonefur is named after Bluestar's first mentor, Stonepelt.
Milkfur[19] Milkfur Milkfur is named after her mother.

Squirrel[20] Squirrelflight Squirrel was named after Squirrelflight by the Sisters.

Stormcloud[21] The Great Storm Stormcloud's prefix was given after the storm that eventually caused him to join ThunderClan.

RiverClan

Stormkit A storm and an oak tree Stormkit was named after the storm that occured during his birth.
Oakheart Oakheart was named after the oak tree that sheltered him and his mother during his birth in a storm.

Tawnyspots[22] Pale brown spots Tawnyspots is named after the pale brown spots he had on his belly after birth.
Halftail[23] Part of his tail missing When Sparrowpelt retired to the elder’s den, his name was changed to Halftail, because part of his tail had been bitten of by a badger.
Smallear[24] small ears Smallear was named for his very small ears.
Rosetail Pinkish-orange tail Rosetail’s name derives from her bushy, pinkish-colored tail, which contrasts with her gray tabby body.
Squirrelflight[25] Bushy, squirrel-like tail Squirrelflight was named for her bushy tail.
Lionblaze[26] Lion-like appearance Lionblaze was named for his appearance, which looks like a lion.
