Jayfeather warns the warrior that it may hurt, while Sorreltail half-heartedly responds while watching Briarlight.
Sorreltail tells Jayfeather that her breathing sounds rough, while Jayfeather tells her that Briarlight has a chest infection.
Jayfeather adds that he doesn't know whether to make her exercise harder or easier, so Sorreltail asks if he had checked on what Leafpool suggests.
Jayfeather sharply states that he hasn't had time, and Leafpool hasn't either.
He regrets his sharpness, so he asks her if she wants poppy seeds to help her sleep, but she declines.
Sorreltail leaves, and after that, Briarlight awakens, asking about Firestar.
Jayfeather states that Firestar is asleep in his den, while Briarlight states that Russetfur shouldn't have attacked him, so Lionblaze didn't have to defend his leader.
Jayfeather tells her that Russetfur was too old to be fighting, while Lionblaze walks in, adding that he should've noticed that.
Jayfeather asks how Dovepaw is doing, remembering that she was shaken after the battle.
Lionblaze replies that she's okay, while Jayfeather remembers that Ivypaw was rather proud of the battle.
They discuss the battle, but are interrupted by Briarlight's coughs.
Lionblaze exits, while Leafpool enters, asking about Briarlight.
Jayfeather replies that she's fine, and the two medicine cats discuss the wounded cats' situations.
The blind tabby tom asks Leafpool to check on Firestar, worrying over his neck injury.
Jayfeather drifts to sleep, reminding himself to talk with Lionblaze about Ivypaw in the morning.
Jayfeather walks into Ivypaw's dream, and figures out that she is training with Tigerheart in the Place of No Stars.
He realizes that cats were being trained in the Dark Forest, training to break the warrior code.
Lionblaze has trouble sleeping, as Birchfall unconsciously puts his legs on top of him.
He exits the den, noting where everyone is in camp.
He realizes that someone is up there.
Cinderheart goes to the entrance, asking Lionblaze if everything is okay.
Lionblaze asks Hazeltail, Cinderheart, and Graystripe if they had heard something, as Hazeltail and Graystripe were on guard.
Cinderheart asks Lionblaze if he wants to go for a run, so he accepts.
Lionblaze notes that they should be on the lookout for ShadowClan.
Cinderheart asks him if he's okay about killing Russetfur, but Lionblaze states that he doesn't want to talk about it.
Lionblaze adds that he killed ShadowClan's deputy, not even managing to save Firestar, and a warrior shouldn't kill to win.
Cinderheart brings up that times are changing, as she can feel it.
After being spooked by a snow owl, the pair runs far in the woods, then ends up halting at a abandoned Twoleg nest.
Spooked once more, Lionblaze sees that this is where Hollyleaf disappeared.
He is lost in his thoughts, so Cinderheart wakes him out of his thoughts, and he realizes that he had been clawing at the ground.
Cinderheart tells him that she was worried, as he was a good friend, but Lionblaze hopes that they could be more than friends.
Lionblaze and Cinderheart go to the field near the herb patches and patrol. They see Flametail watching them, and quarrel at first, but Flametail, winning the argument, walks back into his own territory.
After running back to camp, he sees Jayfeather, and Jayfeather pushes him into a conversation about Dovepaw's sister, Ivypaw.
Dovepaw wakes in the morning when she hears Jayfeather and Lionblaze talking about Ivypaw.
She tries to get out of camp, but is stopped by Berrynose and has to go out the dirtplace tunnel.
She attempts to slip out of camp by the tunnel, but she is followed by Ivypaw, as her sister states that she needs to go to the dirtplace as well.
Ivypaw states that Dovepaw didn't wait for her, but Dovepaw lightly implies that Ivypaw smells.
Dovepaw suggests seeing Jayfeather about Ivypaw's leg, as she is limping on it.
The two come back from the dirtplace, seeing Firestar announce two patrols on the ShadowClan border.
Firestar states that Ivypaw, Cinderheart, Lionblaze, and Dovepaw should practice stalking, but after noticing that Lionblaze is absent, he sends Berrynose with the three she-cats.
Berrynose stops by the nursery, reminding his kits that they will become warriors soon.
Ivypaw remarks that he is a show-off.
Dovepaw looks for Jayfeather and Lionblaze, but is not able to get a hold of them, and Cinderheart chides for her not to stare at the trees.
Dovepaw shows Berrynose her hunting crouch, and the older tom critiques it.
Ivypaw shows the two warriors her crouch, while Berrynose notes that she's leaning on one paw.
When Dovepaw is finally able to track Lionblaze and Jayfeather, Berrynose shoves her out, lecturing her on why she cannot catch prey asleep.
When Berrynose berates her, Dovepaw notes that she's still distracting by the battle, so Berrynose's voice softens, comforting her.
Berrynose shows the apprentices a hunting technique, and prompts Dovepaw to try it, which she does.
Dovepaw suggest that she shows Ivypaw the move, as Berrynose's demonstration was superb.
Dovepaw, managing to get a time alone with Ivypaw, questions her about going to the Dark Forest, to which Dovepaw's annoyance, Ivypaw does confirm that she is training there, but walks away.
Jayfeather goes back to camp from the lake, telling Lionblaze to stay and hunt for his Clan.
Bumblestripe calls for him upon his return from the lake, telling him to check out what he had found.
Worried, Jayfeather rushes to the medicine den.
Brightheart assures Millie that Briarlight is okay, while telling Jayfeather that Bumblestripe climbed a long way up the Great Oak to reach a lump of cobwebs for his sister.
Jayfeather asks Brightheart about Briarlight's wounds, and after hearing that they are okay, tells Brightheart to fetch moss.
He informs Briarlight to get exercise, assuring Millie that he never pushes Briarlight more than her capability.
Dovepaw enters the den, and after seeing that she is disappointed, Jayfeather asks for a conversation.
Dovepaw tells Jayfeather that Ivypaw admitted to training in the Dark Forest.
Jayfeather reassures her that her sister had made her choice, and maybe they could get valuable information out of the apprentice.
Dovepaw tries to continue the conversation, but Jayfeather states that he has jobs to do, and will talk later.
Tigerheart suddenly appears behind her and they start to talk, but when Tigerheart asks if Dovepaw came, Ivypaw retorts that the Dark Forest chose Ivypaw and not Dovepaw, and angry, runs into the forest.
Ivypaw crashes into Mapleshade, who attacks her, but is warned off by Hawkfrost.
Thistleclaw assigns the assembled cats from the living Clans to knock Shredtail from the rock without letting him strike a blow to their heads.
Sparrowfeather cheats, causing an end to the assignment and a new round. Thistleclaw reminds the cats not to cheat.
Lionblaze is told to wait before the battle with the fox, and to also bring Dovepaw.
He informs Dovepaw of the mission, but doesn't tell her what he's doing.
Dovepaw questions Lionblaze, and Lionblaze tells her that he is chasing the fox.
Outraged, the two get into a argument about using their powers for the safety of the Clan, making the other normal warriors feel cheated, and other things.
Lionblaze defeats the fox, but blood streaks his pelt, making Dovepaw worried.
Lionblaze comforts her that he isn't hurt and the two chase the fox off ThunderClan territory.
The Clan is also worried about Lionblaze.
When Lionblaze returns to camp, Jayfeather rubs ointment on his pelt so they can trick the Clan into thinking his wounds were real.
Cinderheart fusses about Lionblaze.
Lionblaze confesses to Cinderheart that he is a part of the prophecy and that he will never be hurt.
Cinderheart is grief-stricken, telling Lionblaze they can never be mates because he has a much greater destiny than her.
Briarlight is convincing Millie that she isn't hungry.
Jayfeather figures out that she is starving and questions Briarlight about it.
Briarlight tells Jayfeather she doesn't deserve to eat because she is a burden to ThunderClan and she can't hunt.
Jayfeather assigns Briarlight a new job - the caretaker of the medicine den.
Jayfeather finds Hollyleaf's fur tucked into the back of the den.
Yellowfang appears and tells Jayfeather that Lionblaze battling the fox alone was a sign - that ThunderClan must fight alone in the great battle, and also tells Jayfeather that ThunderClan might be the only Clan to survive while the others perish.
Jayfeather travels to the Moonpool.
When they reach the Moonpool, Jayfeather is accidently brought to Kestrelflight's dream.
Barkface and Daisytail are warning Kestrelflight to trust his ancestors and not other Clans.
Then, Jayfeather is brought to Willowshine's dream, where Graypool and Mudfur are warning her with uncompleted sentences.
Angry, Jayfeather races away and suddenly sees Yellowfang, who asks if Jayfeather believes her now, and tells him the same thing: the four Clans must stand alone.
Jayfeather threatens to tell the other Clans what's really going on.
While he does, crackling silences Jayfeather and the whole clearing is flooded with starlight. Rock is among the group of StarClan cats lining the walls, and all the cats fall and only Rock remains, staring at Jayfeather.
Ivypaw wakes up, disappointed that she isn't in the Dark Forest.
Dovepaw isn’t in her nest.
Ivypaw thinks that Dovepaw is going into the forest and training by herself because Ivypaw is better than her and she doesn't like it.
In the Dark Forest, Hawkfrost tells Ivypaw they are practicing water fighting tonight.
When they get into the river, Ivypaw is assigned to practice a new battle move with Darkstripe. Ivypaw falls into the water, loosing her footing and almost drowning. Hollowpaw saves her.
Together, Ivypaw and Hollowpaw beat Darkstripe. Hawkfrost tells Darkstripe that he expected better of him.
When out of the water, Tigerstar praises Ivypaw, seeing her in the water.
Ivypaw wakes up to Dovepaw in her nest, scenting the snow on her pelt.
When sleeping, Whitewing suddenly notices blood on Ivypaw's pelt, and Dovepaw tells Whitewing they must have been training hard.
Whitewing orders Bumblestripe to get Jayfeather for Ivypaw's wound.
Ivypaw tells Whitewing that it must have been a thorn, and Dovepaw agrees, leaving the den.
When Dovepaw comes back, she drops a thorn at the floor of the den, asking them if it was what they were looking for.
Cinderheart asks Ivypaw if anything is wrong, and Ivypaw confesses to Cinderheart about Dovepaw, and wanting to be the best warrior ever.
Cinderheart makes Ivypaw promise she will never leave the camp at night again.
Purdy asks Dovepaw if a mouse would appeal to Mousefur, and when Squirrelflight asks if she's hungry, Purdy replies that she is sad.
When Jayfeather tells Dovepaw to stop Ivypaw from coming back from the Dark Forest in such a state, she yells at Jayfeather, afraid Ivypaw will get killed.
Jayfeather informs Lionblaze and Ivypaw about the dream he had about StarClan shattering.
Jayfeather tells Dovepaw that they could use Ivypaw to find information about the Dark Forest.
Angry, Dovepaw races to the top of the slope, frustrated that they're using Ivypaw.
She hunts down a water vole and Ivypaw is there.
Dovepaw offers a bite but Ivypaw shakes her head, stating that it would be against the warrior code.
Dovepaw tells her to take a small bite.
Ivypaw tells her that she won't eat it, because she isn't the one breaking the code by being the one seeing a ShadowClan warrior at night.
Dovepaw asks how she knows and Ivypaw says that she smelled him on her.
Ivypaw tells Dovepaw that Tigerheart trains in the Dark Forest.
Outraged, Dovepaw speaks the words clearly to Ivypaw says that Ivypaw is jealous because Tigerheart loves Dovepaw.
Flametail smells fresh borage on Pinepaw's fur and leads himself to where he fell in.
He picks the borage.
When he goes back to camp, Littlecloud asks him if he had any dreams.
Littlecloud suddenly asks why he is lying, figuring out Flametail's secret by the scent of dirt on him, not the scent of other medicine cats or the Moonpool.
Flametail explains to Littlecloud about his vision of Raggedstar.
They argue about alliances keeping their Clan alive, but when Flametail points out that they aren't warriors Littlecloud is attacked by a cough.
Flametail apologizes.
Blackstar calls Flametail. He asks Flametail if he had any signs from StarClan.
Blackstar reveals he had been having bad dreams.
Flametail tells Blackstar again that they must stand alone - and if so, they will be safe.
Blackstar is confident.
Rowanclaw asks Flametail if he wants help collecting more borage.
Rowanclaw sends Toadfoot and Dawnpelt to help Flametail collect borage.
When they get there, they find coltsfoot, some way to ease Littlecloud's hoarse breathing.
They try another bush, but Flametail hears a sharp crash and Dawnpelt stumbles into an ice crack.
In a vision, Flametail finds himself in black water, sucking him down, trying to save Dawnpelt.
Shouting with terror, he knocks Dawnpelt into the snow before she can sink into the ice.
Dawnpelt suddenly asks Flametail with horror if he had gone crazy. She demands if he was afraid that she was going to get her paws wet.
Flametail tells StarClan that they don't have to keep reminding him. But for now, his number one concern was keeping his Clanmates safe.
Jayfeather is in the elders' den, hoping the roof of the elders den will hold under the weight of the snow.
Jayfeather examines Mousefur, wondering if her wheezing was infection or just old age.
The fresh-kill pile is empty, and Sandstorm's whitecough had spread.
Blossomfall tells Jayfeather that Cherrykit has a fever, and he prays that Poppyfrost had just been over anxious.
Jayfeather is given a surprise attack by Molekit.
Jayfeather sends Cherrykit to play outside with Molekit so she can keep cool.
After he gives Poppyfrost instructions to care for Cherrykit, Jayfeather comes back to check on Sandstorm.
Rosepetal appears with yarrow.
Surprised, Jayfeather asks where she found them.
Rosepetal explains they were lying outside of camp, and she thought Jayfeather had dropped them. Jayfeather tells her it wasn't him.
Rosepetal guesses it was Leafpool.
Jayfeather thanks Leafpool, but it appears that it wasn't her.
Jayfeather tells Rosepetal to guide him where she found the yarrow leaves.
He follows Rosepetal into the thorn barrier, but there was no scent of any cat.
Rosepetal suggests it might have been a warrior who found them on patrol and planned to tell Jayfeather later.
Jayfeather tells Rosepetal that if he can't figure out, he'll tell Firestar to thank whoever found it at the Clan meeting.
Thornclaw and Spiderleg accompany Mothwing to Jayfeather.
Mothwing tells Jayfeather that Willowshine had told her StarClan ordered them to stop talking to other medicine cats, wanting to know if they told Jayfeather the same thing.
Jayfeather tells her that he won't tell her what StarClan shares with him.
They argue.
Finally, Mothwing ends the fight and asks him if he needs any herbs.
Jayfeather refuses.
Poppyfrost tells Jayfeather that Cherrykit can't breathe.
He tells them to bring her inside, and to wash her.
Dovepaw tells Jayfeather that there was greencough in ShadowClan, but it was just Littlecloud.
Leafpool asks Jayfeather what he's going to do about Littlecloud, but Jayfeather just tells her he'll pray.
Thinking that Leafpool might steal the herbs for Littlecloud, Jayfeather asks Brambleclaw to assign a guard for the herbs, telling him they are very precious and he can't afford ShadowClan to steal them.
Jayfeather realizes that Ivypaw's dream wasn't real, but maybe it had uses after all.
Brambleclaw assigns Berrynose and Spiderleg to guard them.
Jayfeather tells himself he must stay strong, ever since the Dark Forest was growing and the StarClan cats were frightened.
When a warrior gives Ivypaw food, Starlingpaw states that he doesn't know why they were giving her their food, since she was the one trying to steal theirs.
Ivypaw watches the activity going on in camp.
When Sparrowkit asks no one in particular if the strange cat Tigerheart had brought into camp last night was still here, the warriors look at each other and stare at Ivypaw.
Rowanclaw announces that Tigerheart had found a ThunderClan apprentice inside their scent line last night
Olivenose says that they might be trying to steal more of ShadowClan territory but Ivypaw tells them they aren't.
Starlingpaw tells Ivypaw to be quiet.
Rowanclaw tells the Clan that they are holding her for now.
Sparrowkit says hi to Ivypaw, calling her a Thundercat. He asks her if she can fly.
Ivypaw doesn't understand, and Sparrowkit explained that the warriors said ThunderClan cats flew down from the trees in battle.
Ivypaw tells Sparrowkit that all ThunderClan cats can fly, but Starlingpaw calls her a liar.
Ivypaw tells Starlingpaw it's not her fault that ShadowClan kits have poppy seeds for brains, triggering anger in Sparrowkit.
Ivypaw makes herself look scary which frightens Sparrowkit and leaves him calling to his mother, Kinkfur.
Ivypaw apologizes to Starlingpaw, but he tells her that the kits have been raised on tales that ThunderClan cats eat kits for fun.
Ivypaw offers to apologize, and Blackstar hears, telling her that she will apologize, but not yet.
She also apologizes to Blackstar, who tells her that they won't put her on the fresh kill pile yet.
Blackstar tells Ivypaw that before she can go home that there is a bargain to be struck.
Tawnypelt comes over and Ivypaw asks what she will be swapped for.
Tawnypelt tells her she will be swapped for herbs, and tells her to use the dirtplace to get some fresh air.
When she is in the dirtplace, she wonders if she could escape but knows better.
She also tells Tawnypelt she wants to apologize to the kits.
When Ivypaw visits the kits, Flametail shoots in and Tawnypelt asks what's wrong.
Flametail tells her it was darkness. Cold, sucking darkness.
Blackstar asks what's wrong, and Flametail tells him darkness will engulf ShadowClan like an endless wave and suck them down to their doom.
Flametail tells Blackstar that the must prepare to fight, they must fight alone and they must fight for their lives.
Ivypaw tells herself that if the greatest battle was ever coming, she wanted to be home before it arrived.
Ivypaw coaxes her by saying that she's just tired.
Dovepaw is assigned to go to the Gathering.
When they are padding to the lake, Lionblaze asks Dovepaw if she knew what Ivypaw was doing on the border.
Dovepaw tells him that it didn't have anything to do with the Dark Forest, just practicing her night hunting, like she said.
The patrol see silhouettes of WindClan warriors on the crest, and the warriors wonder what they are waiting for.
Dovepaw stretches out her senses to ShadowClan territory, where the cats are wondering whether they should go or suspecting the Gathering as a trap, though a warrior declares it was a Gathering and they wouldn't dare.
Foxleap discovers that the lake had been iced.
WindClan comes to the gathering.
Mistystar goes first, to report what happened in RiverClan.
Onestar goes, then Blackstar, and then Firestar.
Firestar reports what Blackstar has done: capturing a ThunderClan apprentice and holding her hostage until ThunderClan gave them herbs. He also threatens Blackstar and tells them that they've beaten them once, and he says that they will do it again.
Dovepaw finds Tigerheart and tells him they have to talk.
Dovepaw scowls at him, saying that he told Blackstar about Jayfeather's herbs.
Tigerheart tells her that Littlecloud was sick.
Dovepaw replied by saying so was Sandstorm.
Tigerheart points out that she doesn't have greencough. He says that if Jayfeather was a true medicine cat, he would have given ShadowClan the herbs.
Dovepaw tells him that he has to put his own Clanmates first, and Tigerheart says that so does he.
Dovepaw asks if he cares about his Clanmates more than her.
Tigerheart tells her he didn't mean it like that.
Dovepaw turns away, saying that she thinks it's exactly what he meant.
Ivypaw tells herself that she was training in the Dark Forest to be a better warrior.
When she is sucked into the Dark Forest, she hears Tigerstar scolding Tigerheart, telling him that he deserves his loyalty more than ShadowClan.
Tigerstar pins Tigerheart to the ground, saying that it was a mistake he made in the battle with ThunderClan.
Tigerstar also tells Tigerheart that if he can't beat the ThunderClan weaklings, he is nothing. He also reminds Tigerheart that when the final battle comes, wasting time at the Gathering won't help him.
Ivypaw flees, realizing that she wasn't special, but stupid. Tigerstar didn't want to help ThunderClan, he wanted to wage war against the Clans.
She begs herself to wake up, and she hears a voice, imagining she was back in the nursery with Daisy mumurering over her. But when she opened her eyes it was Mapleshade looming over her.
Ivypaw asks Mapleshade why she won't just fade to nothing. Mapleshade tells her that she won't be going anywhere until she settled a few scores.
Mapleshade tells Ivypaw to show her what she'd learned.
They go into the river and Mapleshade asks if she's deep enough yet, then she asks Ivypaw what happens now.
Ivypaw tells her she has to knock her legs from under her.
Mapleshade tries to drown Ivypaw.
Ivypaw wakes up and sees Dovepaw.
Dovepaw asks if she is okay.
Ivypaw replies yes, but she never wants to go to the Dark Forest ever again.
Dovepaw asks Ivypaw if Tigerheart is really training in the Dark Forest, and Ivypaw tells her it was true, and apologizes.
Dovepaw tells her not to be sorry, because she doesn't think he ever loved her.
Ivypaw tells her not to say that, but Dovepaw says she doesn't understand.
Ivypaw reassures her, saying she does understand, that Tigerstar tricked him like he tricked her.
Dovepaw tells her Lionblaze and Jayfeather need to hear this too.
When they meet up with them Dovepaw has Ivypaw tell them about the Dark Forest, why she went there and how Tigerstar and Hawkfrost lied to her.
Jayfeather tells her that she will spy for them.
Ivypaw says she doesn't want to go there again, but Jayfeather shrugs and says that’s too bad.
Lionblaze says that she'll only spy if Ivypaw agrees.
Ivypaw says no, but Jayfeather tells her she might not have the choice.
Dovepaw takes Ivypaw away to talk alone, and she tells Ivypaw to climb over a trunk and go do something.
Ivypaw leaves, and digs a hole, and fills it in. She comes back to Dovepaw and Dovepaw repeats exactly what she did.
Puzzled, Ivypaw asks if she followed her or something.
Dovepaw explains to her about her powers.
Ivypaw is shocked - but tells Dovepaw it was her fault that she went to the Dark Forest. Ivypaw says that Lionblaze and Jayfeather don't trust her, and that they maybe want her to go back to the Dark Forest and stay there.
Dovepaw tells her not to be ridiculous, that she's the special one now.
Ivypaw whispers that she wishes she wasn’t, and she is scared.
Ivypaw tells Dovepaw to tell Jayfeather and Lionblaze that she'll go back, and pretend she's still one of them, and she'll find out everything about their plans.
Ivypaw is out in the forest and kills a mouse, then begins to hear noise coming from the lake.
She mentions that she promised herself that she would hunt until she had caught enough prey to make up for losing the herbs.
When Ivypaw goes back to the camp, a clan meeting is called and Firestar tells the ThunderClan cats about Flametail's death.
It is noted that Brambleclaw felt the loss of Flametail more strongly because he was Brambleclaw's kin.
Dovepaw tells Ivypaw that she doesn't have to go back to the Dark Forest, but Ivypaw says she wants to help her sister and her clan.
When Ivypaw goes to the Dark Forest, she is taken by Tigerstar to a meeting.
She learns of the plot to destroy the clans and StarClan and is terrified to see that the other clan cats in the Dark Forest seemed like real Dark Forest cats when their eyes shine.
She is then taunted by Darkstripe and Brokenstar gives her a quick assessment.
After that, she sees Flametail who tells her that he followed a noise and ended up in the Dark Forest.
Brokenstar then orders Ivypaw to kill Flametail.
At first Ivypaw refuses, but out of fear for her own life and Dovepaw's life, gets ready to kill Flametail, but she is stopped by Tigerheart.
Tigerheart tells her that he wouldn't let her kill what was left of his brother.
He is really defensive of Flametail so Tigerstar and Brokenstar let him live.
When Tigerstar is asked about what to do about Ivypaw he says that she is loyal to the Place of No Stars and that she will fight with them when the battle comes.
