"ShadowClan has forgotten what it is to be a Clan."
— Oatclaw's opinion of ShadowClan in Thunder and Shadow, page 241

Oatclaw is a pale brown tabby tom.[1]

Oatclaw is a WindClan warrior that has served under Onestar's and Harestar's leaderships in the lake territories. As an apprentice, Oatpaw was mentored by Leaftail. He was nearly killed going against orders by fighting against the stoats. He later gained his warrior name, Oatclaw. He aided in fighting against Darktail's Kin, becoming badly injured. He rested at ThunderClan until he was well enough to return to WindClan. He had three kits with Featherpelt, named Songkit, Whistlekit, and Flutterkit. Afterwards, he and his mate had another litter of kits, Leafkit, Branchkit, and Grasskit.

History[]

In the A Vision of Shadows arc[]

The Apprentice's Quest[]

He is a warrior and has received the name Oatclaw.

Thunder and Shadow[]

Rowanstar: "They asked to join ShadowClan. They came with gifts of prey, but I turned them away."
Oatclaw: "How dare they?"
—Rowanstar and Oatclaw about some of Darktail's rogues Thunder and Shadow, page 182
Oatclaw, Emberfoot, Furzepelt, and Onestar fight against Darktail's rogues. Bramblestar then throws Oatclaw's opponent off, he then scrambles to his paws to help Rosepetal fight a white she-cat. When Darktail yowls for everyone to stop fighting, he is mentioned to be letting go of his opponent with Rosepetal. When Jayfeather looks at his wounds, he is described to have deep cuts along his flanks. Alderpaw is then called over and treats his wounds with the remaining cobweb, quickly dressing it. When Furzepelt dies, he lifts his head, eyes wide with shock. The tom then staggers over to Onestar, who loses a life.
Oatclaw travels with his Clanmates back to ThunderClan's camp, as he and Emberfoot are too injured to return back home. Onestar initially is against it, but concedes when Jayfeather comments Oatclaw might bleed to death. Alderpaw asks how many lives Onestar has left, and the tom says he does not know. Once back at camp, Alderpaw and Jayfeather wash more herb pulp into his wounds. Oatclaw rests in a nest beside Briarlight, and is offered prey for when he wakes. He and Oatclaw stay in ThunderClan's care for a few more days, as they are unfit to travel. The pair return to their camp once they recover. At the next Gathering, Oatclaw supports his Clanmates, meowing that ShadowClan has forgotten how to be a Clan.

Shattered Sky[]

Oatclaw is on a patrol with Featherpelt and Gorsetail, and eyes Bramblestar and his patrol warily. He flanks the ThunderClan cats after Gorsetail allows them to come to WindClan's camp, and is sent ahead to warn Onestar. Later, Oatclaw is on another patrol and catches Alderheart and Mothwing on WindClan territory. Alderheart reassures they are just going to RiverClan, but Oatclaw's fur remains bristling, revealing his suspicion.

In The Broken Code arc[]

Lost Stars[]

Oatclaw has three kits with Featherpelt; Songkit, Whistlekit and Flutterkit.

The Silent Thaw[]

Oatclaw's kits have become apprentices.

In the A Starless Clan arc[]

River[]

Two of his kits are now warriors, Songleap and Flutterfoot, while Whistlepaw is now Kestrelflight's apprentice. Flamepaw, Sparkpelt and Squirrelflight meet Oatclaw, Nightcloud, and Sedgewhisker at the border to speak with Harestar.

Wind[]

"Leafkit, speak to us! It'll be okay. We're going to get you out."
―Oatclaw to Leafkit Wind, page 232
His mate has given birth to their second litter of kits: Branchkit, Leafkit, and Grasskit. Harestar announces their birth at the Gathering. Later, Oatclaw and Featherpelt were evacuating their newborn kits from the nursery during a storm when a tree falls on the nursery, trapping Leafkit inside. Oatclaw desperately yowls for his daughter. After Sunbeam rescues Leafkit, Oatclaw heads to Kestrelflight's den with his family. He and Featherpelt later thank Frostpaw for warning them about the storm.

Star[]

Oatclaw is sent to help rebuild RiverClan's camp, as many of the RiverClan warriors left after Splashtail's death. Oatclaw and Appleshine meet up with patrols from the other Clans along the way. When Nightheart states that Frostpaw will recover soon, Oatclaw cautions that she has not woken up yet and her injuries are severe. At the RiverClan camp, Oatclaw assists Appleshine and Bayshine with fixing the roof of the elders' den. During the evening meal, Oatclaw tries a bite of Owlnose's salmon, much to Appleshine's horror.

Onestar's Confession[]

Crowfeather: "It could have been rogues. We were here very early, before ThunderClan renewed their scent markers, and I'm sure I picked up that weird scent near this elder tree."
Oatclaw: "But the scent could be old. Rogues pass by our borders all the time, after all."
—Oatclaw and Crowfeather about Smokekit's attacker Onestar's Confession, pages 318-319
When the stoats attack WindClan's camp, Onestar spots Leaftail trying to hide and protect Oatpaw. Much later, after becoming a warrior, Oatclaw heads back to camp with Onestar's patrol after hunting. Upon their return, Onestar is told that Smokekit has gone missing and that Crowfeather had scented rogues. Onestar takes Oatclaw on his patrol to investigate the border with ThunderClan. Soon, Crowfeather calls to the rest of the patrol, and they rush over to him and find Smokekit. When Crowfeather suggests it could have been rogues that took her, Oatclaw argues that the scent may be too old. Sedgewhisker says that it could have been the stoats, which Onestar quickly grasps onto, earning agreement from Oatclaw and Sedgewhisker.
Deciding to deal with Darktail without letting his Clan know the truth, Onestar orders them to watch for rogues. Furzepelt immediately takes Oatclaw and Emberfoot to check. Her patrol finds and confronts Darktail's rogues, and Furzepelt retrieves Onestar. The cats soon break out into a battle. When Darktail knocks Onestar to the ground, Oatclaw tries to help, but is blocked by two rogues. After ThunderClan joins the battle, Bramblestar helps Oatclaw against a gray tom. By the end of the battle, Oatclaw suffers a serious injury, and he and Emberfoot are cared for by ThunderClan. Onestar wants to take them home, but Jayfeather convinces him otherwise.
At a Gathering, Oatclaw is angry to hear that Darktail's Kin have offered gifts to ShadowClan to try to join them. At the following Gathering a moon later, Onestar accuses Violetpaw of plotting with the rogues, and Oatclaw joins his Clanmates in mocking ShadowClan. Some time after, Oatclaw approaches Onestar's den to tell him that a ThunderClan patrol has arrived, despite WindClan's borders being closed, and that Bramblestar is with them. Onestar reluctantly orders Oatclaw to let them into the camp.

Crowfeather's Trial[]

"It doesn't even look as if it'll be that hard. They're kind of...cute!"
―Oatpaw about the stoats Crowfeather's Trial, page 177
Oatpaw is a WindClan apprentice, and his mentor is Leaftail. Onestar calls a Clan meeting, and all of the apprentices scramble out of the den and plop themselves into heap. Crowfeather thinks Hootpaw probably told them about the white creature in the tunnel entrance he saw the day before, and guesses from their wide eyes and excited looks they are expecting momentous news. Oatpaw, who wasn't with the patrol the day before, looks just as thrilled as the rest. Oatpaw is later seen cleaning out Whiskernose's nest. Featherpaw practices battle training with Oatpaw. She puts more speed and strength into her blows and knocks Oatpaw to the ground, then leaps on top of him with a yowl of triumph.
The apprentices are ordered to stay out of the attack on the stoats, however, they disobey and join anyway. Oatpaw peers at the stoats, saying it doesn't look like it'll be that hard, and they look kind of cute. The stoats trap the apprentices and Oatpaw nervously strikes out with one of his battle moves, but the stoats are too fast and vicious. The stoats retreat, and Oatpaw leaps up and down with excitement, yowling they won.

Squirrelflight's Hope[]

Bramblestar and Squirrelflight wait at WindClan's border, and they spot Slightfoot, Oatclaw and Larkwing. Bramblestar calls to them, and they agree to take them to Harestar. Oatclaw and Larkwing pad close to their flanks, and Squirrelflight snaps at them. When Bramblestar agrees to let WindClan hunt on ThunderClan's portion of the moorland, Oatclaw wonders what Tigerstar would think if he found out, and Bramblestar shares his worries. He later participates in the battle against the Sisters.
