Chapter description[]
- Onestar, recently admitted into StarClan, finds Firestar, the former ThunderClan leader and once his close friend. Firestar comments on Onestar's inner conflict typical for new StarClan residents as he feels the pain of leaving his Clanmates. At once, Onestar feels compelled to apologize to Firestar for his past behavior, how he turned his back on their friendship in favor of proving himself to WindClan. Firestar comments that Onestar's biggest flaw was hiding his mistake that spiraled out of control; Onestar's rash actions left his Clanmates wondering if they could even trust their own leader. Onestar admits Firestar is right and he hopes he'll be better now that he's in StarClan. Firestar insists Onestar was noble while he was alive, referencing his bravery against Tigerstar and BloodClan, helping WindClan find a new home and supporting Tallstar, maintaining his ground during his early leadership days, coming to ThunderClan's aid when badgers attacked their camp, forgiving Breezepelt for training in the Dark Forest, and sacrificing his last life to kill Darktail.
- As the pair take a walk, Onestar realizes that Firestar is right, and he hopes he can maintain opportunities to prove himself as a StarClan cat. While they walk, Firestar reveals there may be trouble coming for the Clans soon; he's been having dreams of a heavy mist obscuring the lake territories, though he could detect a faint light breaking through. Firestar is unsure what the vision might mean, but he knows that Onestar must help his successor be strong enough to lead his Clan through the coming troubles. They reach the Moonpool and Onestar spots Harespring, his former deputy, receiving his nine lives. He recognizes Windstar, Gorsestar, and Moth Flight. Onestar is unsure what he can offer Harespring compared to the other cats, but as he reflects over Firestar's wisdom, Onestar realizes he has the perfect gift. Onestar approaches Harespring and grants him a life for honesty, welcoming Harestar as WindClan's newest leader.
