Chapter description[]
- Thunder insists on going to the rogue camp, despite Lightning Tail suggesting him not to. However, because of Violet, Thunder is firm on going to Slash’s camp, and Lightning Tail follows his friend, knowing Thunder wants to see Violet again. They squeeze through the brambles and Lightning Tail catches four rogues heading for the pines and they hide. Thunder hears a black tom named Raven ask if Slash saw them leave but Violet assures him to not worry. A russet colored tom, Red asks where to hunt and Violet suggests the Twolegplace. Red asks about the dogs but Violet shrugs it off, and Raven asks why Slash is letting food rot and not feeding his campmates properly, angering Thunder. The ginger tom decides to actually see the rogue camp again, and assures Lightning Tail that Slash wouldn’t see them. The toms weave through the reeds and see Slash facing a mottled brown she-cat. Willow offers to take the she-cat’s place but Slash refuses, insisting Beech needs to learn. Splinter slams into Beech and scrapes her ear tip, and Beech leaps up, swiping at his nose.
- However, Slash rears up and pins Beech down by the tail, giving Splinter the time to attack the brown tabby. Thunder longs to help the she-cat and at last Slash orders Splinter to back off, and Beech struggles to stand still. Two kits approach Beech and but a orange and white queen hisses that’s cruelty. Willow tells Dawn to not frighten them but Dawn insists they need to know the environment they are living in. Slash scoffs to leave his group then, but Moss tells Dawn they can’t leave yet. Slash offers for Dawn to train but Moss defends his mate, and tells Slash he will take her place. The brown tabby leader tells Moss to use whatever move on Beetle, but before anything could happen, Thunder hears cries of dogs, with Red leading them. Lightning Tail defends Pine and Drizzle and he and Thunder introduce themselves. Thunder claws onto a dog and Frog raced past him, while a burly brown tom slashed at a dog. Beech races in to help despite her injuries and Thunder slashes at a terrier, thinking they are winning. However, he sees the brown tom lying on the ground, blood pouring out of him, and a dog bite down at Frog’s flank, crushing his bones. Willow drags him away, leaving Beech to fight the dog all alone. As Thunder and Lightning Tail rush forward to help the she-cat, Slash blocks them, telling them it is time she proved herself.
- The black dog picks Beech up between the jaws, shaking her. Fern comes to help and the dog drops Beech. The dog runs away and Thunder presses close, realizing that Beech has died, and Lightning Tail snarls that her life could have been saved. Slash scoffs and the rogues discuss Red, and an orange she-cat announced that Stone is dead. Thunder tells Slash that he should be taking care of his campmates to his anger, and Thunder says he thinks he is a spy as Splinter walks near him.
