Chapter description[]
- Gray Wing glances across the moor and Spotted Fur appears through the heather, telling him prey scents aren't very fresh around. Gorse Fur tells Moth Flight to watch the clouds some other time, as they are hunting. Moth Flight dips her head and goes down the slope, and Gray Wing complains to Slate that there is no prey around, and thinks about his dream with Turtle Tail. Gray Wing sees a rabbit, and Gorse Fur starts chasing it towards Moth Flight. The gray tom tries to warn the white she-cat, but Moth Flight continues staring up at the sky, and he shouts to her. However, the rabbit runs away, and Moth Flight worries about Gray Wing's breathing, but he berates her and the white she-cat apologizes. Wind Runner is furious and Gorse Fur returns with the rabbit in his jaws, although he does not mind Moth Flight not catching the rabbit. Slate tells Gray Wing not to blame Moth Flight.
- He sees Tall Shadow and Clear Sky and the gray tom seems to be distracted, asking for Wind Runner. Clear Sky tells Gray Wing Slash has kidnapped Star Flower, and Gray Wing recognizes the name, and he and Tall Shadow start talking about Fern. Clear Sky demands who is Fern, and Gray Wing reveals she was one of Slash's rogues. When Wind Runner asks what happened, Clear Sky tells her about Star Flower’s abduction, and how Slash wants the leaders to meet him. Wind Runner and Gorse Fur initially refuse to help and Clear Sky begs to just meet with Slash. Tall Shadow and Gray Wing support Clear Sky. Gray Wing reasons with Wind Runner and she ultimately agrees to meet up with Slash. Clear Sky tells them however, that Thunder refused to talk to Slash and his rogues and Gray Wing offers to ask him for Clear Sky. The broad shouldered tom thanks him. After they leave, Wind Runner is worried about what will happen, but Gray Wing tells his leader nothing bad will happen, as he has a plan in mind.
