- Pebbleshine opens her eyes and finds herself on the cold stone ground of the Thunderpath, hearing Twoleg voices around her. Someone picks her up and wraps her in something soft and carries her to a monster nearby, and she protests that she needs to return to her kits, but the Twoleg didn’t understand her. She feels the Twoleg put her in a monster, and Pebbleshine tries to struggle, and she realizes this started with a monster carrying her away, but resulted in her being separated from Hawkwing and her kits, and she feels the monster move.
- She feels the warm sun on her, smelling fresh things growing around her. Pebbleshine couldn't feel anymore pain, thinking this isn't right. She sees the pale yellow cat again who had helped her give birth, meowing she thought she imagined him. The tom meows that he's real and his name is Micah, the first SkyClan medicine cat. Pebbleshine wonders if he came for her. Micah tells her some cats are waiting to greet her. She sees a ginger and white tom, who welcomes her. Pebbleshine realizes this is Billystorm, her former mentor. Billystorm tells her this is StarClan, and Pebbleshine asks if she is dead as well, and a tom meows she is, but she isn't in StarClan yet.
- Pebbleshine realizes this is Sharpclaw, the SkyClan deputy who died fighting Darktail and his rogues. She sees Duskpaw too, apologizing that they couldn't save him from the fire. Pebbleshine sees Bouncefire and Snipkit as well, and for a few moments, Pebbleshine feels happy to see her Clanmates again, but thinks about her abandoned kits. She tells Micah she must return, but Micah tells her the kits will be fine, telling her to look in the water. Pebbleshine sees her kits at the edge of the Thunderpath she left them on and reaches out for them, but Micah blocks her, telling her to watch.
- She sees two cats walking towards her two kits, and she asks who they are, though she guesses they were Clan cats at the age of apprentices. Micah meows the two apprentices will find her kits and bring them to the Clans, and they will be able to meet Hawkwing. She tells Micah she must watch over her kits, as she isn’t trusting of other cats to take care of them. Micah tells her there is a way she can go back, and Pebbleshine asks how. The yellow tom explains she can only be an observer though, and the kits won’t know she’s there.
- Pebbleshine decides yes. Micah warns her again if she decides to leave, she might not come back for some time. He suggests to stay in StarClan and watch over her kits that way. Pebbleshine repeats that she’s sure of it, questioning why should she trust the other Clans, as they drove SkyClan away. Micah meows she’s brave, and Pebbleshine dips her head, thinking about Milo and Olive. She asks Micah what should she do now.
