Poppydawn is a long-haired dark red she-cat with an extremely bushy tail and amber eyes.[10]

Poppydawn was a ThunderClan elder who lived under the leaderships of Doestar, Pinestar, Sunstar, and Bluestar in the forest territories. She was born as Poppykit to Fallowsong alongside her brothers Heronwing and Rabbitleap and became an apprentice as Poppypaw. After becoming a warrior, Poppydawn became mates with Windflight and mothered Rosetail, Sweetpaw, and Thistleclaw. After retiring, her life was claimed by greencough.

In Bluestar's Prophecy, Poppydawn is a queen expecting Windflight's kits. She soon gives birth to Rosekit, Sweetkit, and Thistlekit and is often seen caring for her litter. Once they are apprenticed, Poppydawn returns to her warrior duties. When Sweetpaw becomes sick after eating a bad mouse, Poppydawn protectively watches over her daughter, but the sickness claims her life. Moons later, Poppydawn retires to the elders' den.

In Goosefeather's Curse, Poppykit is a young kit, often playing with her brothers, Heronkit and Rabbitkit, and Daisytoe's daughter, Moonkit. She attempts to play hide-and-seek with Moonkit's brother, Goosekit, but accuses the young tom of cheating when he finds the hiders very quickly. She earns her apprentice name Poppypaw, and later her warrior name, Poppydawn.
In Redtail's Debt, Poppydawn trains an apprentice, Willowpaw. She is assigned to the second battle patrol against RiverClan to take back Sunningrocks, but when Willowpaw's brother, Redpaw, is attacked by a hawk, Poppydawn orders the warriors to protect the apprentices. Though the battle is lost because of their delay, Poppydawn remarks that Redpaw's safety is more important.

In Code of the Clans, Poppydawn is sick with greencough during a cold leaf-bare. ThunderClan's medicine cat, Spottedleaf, insists that she needs prey in order to fight the sickness, so Longtail and Darkstripe are sent out on a hunting patrol. Longtail manages to catch a large squirrel, but he is persuaded by Darkstripe to eat the squirrel and continue hunting. When they return to camp, they find Poppydawn dead.

Detailed description

Poppydawn is a long-haired, dark red[2] tabby[11] she-cat[2] with a long,[11] extremely bushy,[10] thick tail,[12] amber eyes,[13] a broad face,[14] and a muzzle turned gray with age.[15]

Trivia

Interesting facts

  • Vicky once stated that Poppydawn could be Pinestar's daughter.[16]
    • However, they were later revealed to be cousins.[17]
  • In Spottedleaf's Heart, Poppydawn becomes Willowpaw's mentor. However, Poppydawn retires prior to Willowpaw's apprenticeship in Bluestar's Prophecy.[18]

Mistakes

  • She has been called dark brown at least twice.[6][19]
