"I'll always feel a bond with him, after our journey to the sun-drown-water. No cat should have to endure what he did in the Dark Forest. And few cats could have come away from it unscathed. You must take care of him, Squirrelflight, and take care of yourself. ThunderClan has always been such a strong Clan, and Bramblestar a noble leader, but you both have been through so much. I truly hope you can reclaim that." |

Chapter description[]
- Flamepaw waits for Squirrelflight and Sparkpelt near the thorn tunnel. Before Squirrelflight can lead the patrol out into the tunnel, Flamepaw hears Bramblestar padding into camp. The leader gives a small nod at the patrol, hardly acknowledging them. Squirrelflight returns the nod and focuses on completing the patrol.
- They arrive at the WindClan border, when Nightcloud, Sedgewhisker, and Oatclaw arrive. Flamepaw admires Nightcloud's beautiful fur, and how her name actually fits her. Squirrelflight requests that they cross the border to speak with Harestar, but the black she-cat refuses, telling Oatclaw to get the leader. As the cats wait for Harestar, they exchange stories of their Clans well-being.
- Oatclaw returns with Crowfeather. Squirrelflight reminds Crowfeather of Hootwhisker's vole that was caught on ThunderClan territory. The WindClan deputy appears embarrassed and explains that rescuing the ThunderClan leader from the Dark Forest should be payment enough. The ginger she-cat firmly requests the vole's return. Crowfeather agrees, but he continues to mention Bramblestar's weakness from his fight with Ashfur. Squirrelflight tenses at the gray tom's words. Crowfeather continues to sympathize with Bramblestar's situation, and Flamepaw believes his words sound like pity. The ThunderClan cats leave without waiting for a reply. Flamepaw suspects that this meeting may have made the situation between the two Clans more complicated.
