"I love the pride of ShadowClan. I love the way we do what we want and we don't need to rely on any other Clan. Leaving my Clan to follow Darktail was the biggest mistake I ever made. It means everything to me that I am now a true ShadowClan warrior, and it frightens me to think that I might be in danger of losing that." |

Chapter description[]
- Flamepaw crosses the tree bridge with anxiety about being around his own Clanmates and the cats from other Clans. He remembers the shame of failing his second warrior assesment. As his Clanmates share gossip between the Clans, Flamepaw sulks in the corner. Tigerstar, Leafstar, Bramblestar, and Harestar are perched on the Great Oak. As RiverClan enters the Gathering, Flamepaw notices their leader, Mistystar, and deputy, Reedwhisker, are no where to be found. Mothwing places herself next to the leaders and announces that RiverClan has a whitecough pandemic.
- ThunderClan starts the Gathering with Bramblestar mentioning good fortune within his Clan, and Harestar mentions the shrew they were forced to send over. Bramblestar concludes ThunderClan's news, and Flamepaw shrinks into the crowd of cats. ShadowClan and WindClan continue, with Harestar mentioning the medicine cats' visit to the Moonpool. The WindClan leader adds that Fernstripe has decided to leave WindClan to be with Shellfur in ThunderClan. Leafstar also adds that Fringewhisker has decided to leave SkyClan to be with Spireclaw in ShadowClan. Flamepaw feels the excitement from the Clans about the news. He didn't realize how many cats would use the new code to their advantage.
- After the announcement, Berryheart raises her concerns about the new warrior code. She adds that the lines between changing Clans are thin, and that with different reasons, there might not be Clans anymore. Her words make the Gathering uneasy. Bickering from the Clans arise and Flamepaw hides into the shadows. Sunbeam approaches the apprentice, and the two talk about Berryheart's speech. Sunbeam confides in Flamepaw about her situation with Blazefire and Lightleap. Flamepaw adds that it could be worse, and her brother could leave for SkyClan. Flamepaw brings up his multiple assement faliures, and the two cats entrust eachother.
