”Ever since Lightleap had lost her nerve and backed out of crossing into the Dark Forest, and the Sisters had sent Lightleap's brother, Shadowsight, instead, she had been taking a lot of unnecessary risks to prove how brave she was.” |

Chapter description[]
- Sunbeam is stretching on a rock with Blazefire grooming her. She is very happy and thinks she will be happier when she becomes mates with Blazefire. When the white and ginger tom teases Sunbeam lazing in the sun, she tells the tom that she's sure that she will get an apprentice soon from the kits of Dovewing and Tigerstar or Cinnamontail and Slatefur. Soon, Lightleap comes and asks to hunt, and she follows her out of the camp to hunt.
- Lightleap and Sunbeam soon catches a starling, and they talk about Oakfur, who is an elder about his stories of the old ShadowClan territory. When Sunbeam tells Lightleap that they will become elders one day and have stories to tell, Lightleap replies that she has stories she does not want to tell. Sunbeam realizes that she must be thinking about when the dark brown tabby volunteered to go into the Dark Forest and fight Ashfur but failed. They soon hear sounds of mice and catch them. They talk about Pouncestep, who was chased by a dog from the Twolegplace, and say that she was very clever to fool the dog and run away. When Sunbeam comments that the gray tabby was brave, Lightleap tells her that any warrior could have done it, and she would have stayed and fought the dog instead.
- Sunbeam thinks about how Lightleap was taking a lot of unnecessary risks to prove herself recently after she failed to go into the Dark Forest, and that the dark brown tabby was getting in a lot of trouble with Tigerstar for it. When Sunbeam asks Lightleap if they caught enough prey, Lightleap ignores her and goes up a branch to chase two squirrels. Sunbeam notices that the branches the squirrels are running away on were very fragile and will probably not hold a weight of a cat. The dark brown tabby jumped precisely on the branch but instantly fell down as the branch could not hold her. Lightleap landed on top of Sunbeam, injuring the brown and white tabby instead of her. As Sunbeam tells Lightleap to help her back to the camp, Lightleap asks her to not tell anyone what happened.
- When Sunbeam is back at the camp, her Clanmates ask her what happened and she replies that she tripped. Shadowsight treats Sunbeam and asks her what actually happened. When she tries to lie to him, he tells her that it was not possible to trip and get an injury like this. Sunbeam tells Shadowsight what actually happened, and Shadowsight says that she has been reckless recently because she thinks she failed by not going into the Dark Forest. Then, Shadowsight tells Sunbeam that he will try to figure out what to do.
