"No cat is angry with you, Lightleap. We're just worried. You shouldn't be working so hard to prove yourself to the Clan. I've done the same thing in the past-you know that as well as I do-and it caused me to make some pretty serious mistakes. You're a strong ShadowClan warrior and a valued member of our family. Can't you be content with that?"

Chapter description[]

In the medicine cat den, Sunbeam notes that although there is some pain in her back, her foreleg feels fully healed. Shadowsight offers the brown-and-white tabby she-cat some poppy seeds, but Sunbeam declines, asking when she can return to warrior duties. The ShadowClan medicine cat humorously asks if she is bored of his company before saying that either he or Puddleshine will check on her the next morning, and if all goes well, she will be fine to go back to the warriors' den. Sunbeam asks about how Shadowsight had told Tigerstar about Lightleap. The medicine cat states that his sister will probably get in trouble as she deserves it, but it would be much easier if she actually communicated her thoughts so they could understand what's going on.
Blazefire enters the den, delivering a mouse he had caught to Sunbeam. He jokes that he went through fire to catch it, before asking the injured warrior how her leg was. Before Sunbeam can give a response, Lightleap barges into the den, accusing Sunbeam of telling on her as her parents gave her a tough time. Shadowsight shifts the blame towards him, reminding Lightleap that she is a strong ShadowClan warrior. He asks if she is not satisfied with that, but Lightleap sneeringly tells him that he is the cat that set Ashfur free. As her brother takes a step back, the she-cat continues, stating that she doesn't need his advice. Shadowsight follows his sister out of the medicine cat den.
Sunbeam confides in Blazefire that when she told Shadowsight what actually happened, she did not expect him to tell the ShadowClan leader. As the brown-and-white tom comforts the tabby she-cat, she asks him if he can talk to Lightleap. Blazefire avoids it by stating that he will do it after he finishes his patrol. Shadowsight comes back in as Blazefire exits, telling Sunbeam that Lightleap is still very upset as she realized that Sunbeam was the one who told Shadowsight. The medicine cat adds that Tigerstar also wants a word with the injured warrior after she goes back to the warriors' den.
