Trivia[]
Interesting facts[]
- Rowanclaw is the second known leader to step down from leadership,[1] Pinestar being the first.[2] However, unlike Pinestar, he did not choose his deputy, Tawnypelt,[3] to succeed him, like Pinestar did with Sunstar.[4]
- Rowanclaw is confirmed to be the dark ginger tabby who joins Mudclaw's rebellion in Winds of Change by James Barry.[blog 1]
Author statements[]
- His deputyship was first revealed in Erin Hunter Chat 7 by Victoria Holmes.[5]
Mistakes[]
- Until Starlight,[6] Rowanclaw was described as a she-cat in the allegiances.[7][8][9] This was due to a mistake on the editor's part, as Rowanclaw was originally intended to be a tom, and not a she-cat. To make up for this, Rowanclaw was made Tawnypelt's mate and later named deputy of ShadowClan, as Vicky felt bad for always getting his gender wrong.[10][5]
- Furthermore, Vicky thinks that Rowanclaw should have always been a she-cat.[11]
- Rowanclaw is also described as a she-cat in the allegiances for Graystripe's Vow[12] despite appearing in the book as a tom.[13]
- In the Tigerstar and Sasha series, Rowanclaw is shown as light-colored with a black marking on his forehead.[14]
- He was described as flame-colored[15] and with green eyes.[16][17][18][19]
- Rowanclaw was mistakenly said to be the one who attacked Lionblaze by Blackstar in The Last Hope, when it was really Ratscar.[20]
- He was mistakenly called Ratscar.[21]
- On the Warriors website family tree, Rowanclaw is listed in StarClan as Rowanstar,[22] despite him giving up his leader name.[23]
Continuity[]
The following information is from sources considered non-canon or retconned.
- In The Clans Decide, Rowanclaw, Smokefoot, and Russetfur attempt to capture two injured RiverClan cats on ShadowClan territory: Pouncetail and Otterheart. They seek sanctuary in ThunderClan's territory with Firestar, and Rowanclaw tells Firestar that the two RiverClan warriors need to be punished for attacking their Clan. Firestar points out that they stepped just into ThunderClan territory, and Rowanclaw and the others leave, grudgingly. Later, when it is his turn to vote during the Gathering, he votes for Firestar to lead temporarily in order for the Clans to have a decent chance for survival during the harsh leaf-bare.[24]
- Rowanclaw being the son of Scorchwind and Darkflower was first revealed on Vicky's Facebook.[25] His half-siblings through Darkflower were Kinkfur and Pouncetail.[26]
