In the A Vision of Shadows arc[]

Shattered Sky[]

Plumwillow asks Twigpaw if there's Twolegs near their territory, and Sandynose comforts her, saying that Twolegs are everywhere. He asks the apprentice if they're staying there, and she replies that they aren't.

Darkest Night[]

Sandynose is one of the cats who helps heave the pine branch off of Finpaw's tail. He expresses his consent in cutting Finpaw's tail free. Hawkwing reassures Twigpaw, saying that Sandynose and Plumwillow will be with Finpaw while his tail is being cut. When Hawkwing and Violetpaw go to ThunderClan for an escort to the gorge, Violetpaw mentions that Sandynose is Twigpaw's new mentor.
Sandynose is teaching Twigpaw how to hunt like a SkyClan cat, which mostly revolves around catching birds. He gazes up at a bird in a pine, asking if she's listening. She answers she is, and he tells her to climb up and get it. He gets irritated with her when she points out a mouse she could catch much easier than the bird. He tells her that she's a SkyClan cat now and any cat can hunt on the forest floor, but only SkyClan can hunt in trees. Twigpaw climbs up the tree, with Sandynose pestering as she goes. She ends up falling out of the tree, and they go back to camp so Leafpool can check her for injuries.
Twigpaw needs to stay in the medicine den, being a bit bruised, but not awfully hurt. Leafpool is going to gather herbs and requests Finpaw to keep her company. Sandynose stiffly offers to instead, but Leafpool tells him a cat her own age would be better company, and noses him out of the den. After he leaves, Finpaw says Sandynose is obsessed with making every cat act like they're still in the gorge, adding that, the day prior, his father told him was is going to try finding a cliff for him to practice rock climbing.
Later, Twigpaw requests to stay in camp with Finpaw while everyone else hunts. Sandynose is said to have been unconvinced, but Finpaw begged, and Leafstar agreed to it. Twigpaw and Finpaw then leave camp to hunt, but are caught by Leafpool, who orders them back to camp, before Sandynose can find out they left. Finpaw goes back without Twigpaw, and she wonders why Sandynose is such an old badger.
Later, Sandynose tells Twigpaw that he thinks she shouldn't be around Finpaw, saying she's distracting him from training. A ThunderClan patrol arrives at SkyClan's camp, asking if they've seen Dovewing. Sandynose says no one has reported any scents, then one of the ThunderClan cats, Ivypool, looks at Twigpaw, and Sandynose narrows his eyes. Twigpaw reports she saw Dovewing and Tigerheart meeting on their territory. Sandynose pads toward Twigpaw, demanding why she didn't report it before, and the apprentice answers she didn't think borders were as fixed as they used to be as there have been so many changes recently. Sandynose icily says that perhaps for some cats change isn't always good. He goes on to say he sees he was right to tell her to stay away from Finpaw. He joins Leafstar and talks with her in a hushed mew.
Sandynose and Twigpaw are on a border patrol with Sparrowpelt. He praises Twigpaw for picking up the scent of the border so well, then tells her to go toward the lake and mark the border there. Finpaw finds her, and Twigpaw sends him away, much to to Sandynose's satisfaction.
Another ThunderClan patrol arrives to ask for help finding herbs after theirs are ruined in a mudslide, and Twigpaw offers to help. Sandynose says she's supposed to be training. Leafstar says Twigpaw can help, giving Sandynose a stern look. Before Twigpaw leaves camp to find herbs, Sandynose blocks her and tells her she can't live with a paw in two camps. She asks if he's accusing her of being disloyal, and he says no, and she'll make a great warrior, but she must first decide which Clan she belongs in.
After the patrol to the gorge returns, Leafstar holds Violetpaw's and Twigpaw's warrior ceremonies. After giving Violetpaw her new name, Leafstar begins to repeat the ceremony with Twigpaw, but the apprentice stops her, realizing she belongs in ThunderClan. Sandynose pads forward, his face gentle, and supports her, saying he's seen her struggling to do the right thing, and he's proud she found the courage to decide. His son, Finpaw also decides to follow Twigpaw to ThunderClan.

River of Fire[]

His former apprentice, Twigpaw, has left SkyClan to go back to ThunderClan, and his son, Finpaw, follows her in the process.
Sandynose leads a patrol to ShadowClan's old camp with Violetshine and Tree. It is noted by Violetshine that Sandynose had grumbled a lot since Twigpaw's defection back to ThunderClan, who was also his former apprentice, and to make things worse, his son, Finpaw, followed Twigpaw. Violetshine notes that Sandynose missed his energetic son very much since both he and Twigpaw left for ThunderClan. Violetshine thinks to herself that Sandynose blames her since Twigpaw is her sister. Sandynose later gets annoyed with Tree as the yellow tom lazily tries to bask himself in some sunlight, but the three SkyClan cats stumble upon some rogue scent in ShadowClan's old camp. The three decide to check things out, with Sandynose in the lead. As they stumble through the ferns, they spot some of Darktail's former followers, including Sleekwhisker and Yarrowleaf, who appears pregnant.
Though hostile, Sandynose refuses to attack Yarrowleaf, who is pregnant, but he states that he won't be welcome to both Sleekwhisker and Yarrowleaf, since they both betrayed Rowanclaw. Violetshine backs up Sandynose on his statement, with her adding that Sleekwhisker and Yarrowleaf were very loyal to Darktail, and they helped drown cats. Sandynose tells the two rogue cats that ShadowClan lives with SkyClan now and moved camps. Yarrowleaf tells Sandynose and the others about her kits' father, Nettle, and didn't want to raise her kits among the rogues, but back in the Clans. Sandynose seems unsure of what to do with them and states that it's Leafstar's decision, not his. The three decide to bring the two rogues back to camp to see what Leafstar says.
Despite Leafstar refusing the two to be let in the Clan, Sandynose and Macgyver escort them to the border. He is later on a patrol with Macgyver and Violetshine. They all discuss the upcoming storm, and Sandynose decides to get what they have and bring it back to camp.

The Raging Storm[]

Sandynose has received his third apprentice, Quailpaw.
He leaves the camp with Violetshine, Frecklewish, Mintfur, and the newest medicine cat, Fidgetflake. Sandynose retorts to Mintfur and Frecklewish, stating that he is glad that they have their own camp to themselves ever since the newly rebuilt ShadowClan left after they were merged under Rowanclaw's demand. Though Frecklewish states that ShadowClan is still warriors, like them, as they hunt and follow the warrior code, just like them. However, Sandynose comments that ShadowClan hunts like foxes and snore like badgers. Once Tigerstar was brought up in the discussion, Sandynose snorts that ShadowClan owes SkyClan more than thanks. Sandynose growls that Tigerstar only cares for himself, stating that he abandoned his Clan when they needed him most, and he came back when it suited him. He also adds that Tigerstar's mate, Dovewing, is no better, as she had kits with a cat from another Clan, and she left her Clan to be with Tigerstar. He states what kind of example is Tigerstar setting for being a leader. Frecklewish responds to Sandynose, saying that StarClan sent him back, and how he understood there is to have five Clans around the lake. Sandynose still feels uneasy with Tigerstar, stating that he thinks Tigerstar only cared for ShadowClan to be around the lake.
The cats hunt around the territory, spotting a mouse. Sandynose stalks on the ground slowly and pounces, killing the mouse with a swift bite. Sandynose complains about having another mouth to feed, directing the discussion about Tree. He complains about Tree not wanting to do warrior duties and just wants to laze around in camp all day, as his role, a mediator, was recently given to him, but Sandynose states that Tree could at least help around camp by building dens. Violetshine defends Tree against Sandynose, but the stocky brown tabby states that Tree is too genuine, and it's hard to argue about him.
Fidgetflake later scents ShadowClan along the border, wanting Sandynose to confirm. They have realized that the ShadowClan cats have crossed the border into their territory. They discuss the newer ShadowClan cats, the ones that Tigerstar had brought from the Twolegplace, a group of guardian cats. After going back to camp, Sandynose retorts to his leader, stating that he knows where the border is even if ShadowClan doesn't. As SkyClan discusses the scents along the border, Sandynose stays on the subject that they were on their land, though some say that ShadowClan didn't cross the border. As Leafstar decides to remark the border, Sandynose still retorts that it won't make a difference, but Leafstar remarks that ShadowClan is still rebuilding since their recent downfall and with Darktail. As the Clan faces Tree to make a solution, Sandynose seems satisfied with Tree's choice, stating that it might work.
He attends the Gathering, chatting with his mate, Plumwillow, and Podlight of RiverClan. As Tigerstar announces that Tawnypelt stepped down as deputy, and Juniperclaw replaces her, many cats, including Sandynose, are shocked. Sandynose states that a deputy must be loyal, as others stated that Juniperclaw was a follower of Darktail. He interrupts Tigerstar as he states that ShadowClan would follow prey onto SkyClan land, but Tigerstar reassures him that no cat has trespassed.
Sandynose is later chosen for patrol, along with Violetshine, Leafstar, Harrybrook, Bellaleaf, and Sagenose, to visit ShadowClan on neutral ground on their border problem, a solution Tree had meditated. Despite only Juniperclaw appearing without Tigerstar, which upsets the majority of SkyClan, a dog's scent appears, and Sandynose and the others slink in the undergrowth to avoid the dog to go back to camp. As Leafstar refuses to let Tree meditate or give him more time, Sandynose growls that they just have to accept that the other Clans don't want to help them. After going back to camp, his son, Finleap, slinks away from ThunderClan to check on Reedclaw, his daughter, and Leafstar, who appears angry, states that when Finleap left SkyClan, he left all of his kin, including Sandynose.
After a recent battle with ShadowClan, Sandynose sleeps along with the rest of his Clanmates; however, some ShadowClan warriors sneak in SkyClan's camp during the night and destroy the dens. Sandynose dives with Nettlesplash towards Snowbird, but the white she-cat dodged them swiftly and pelts towards the entrance. After catching Juniperclaw with their prey, Sandynose is beside Hawkwing and Leafstar, and he states that ShadowClan wanted to give them a warning. Hawkwing is talking with Sandynose the next morning when the Clan finds out that Sparrowpelt's prey was poisoned by deathberry seeds.
Sandynose attends the next Gathering, padding closely behind Bellaleaf, Leafstar, and Frecklewish with his mate, Plumwillow, flanking him. As Leafstar admits that Sparrowpelt was poisoned, the other Clans begin to question about how he could have. Sandynose supports his leader, saying that Sparrowpelt was poisoned when the other Clans doubt it. As Leafstar is highly considering leaving the lake to go back to the gorge, his son, Finleap, watches Sandynose and Plumwillow disappear into the grass, and Twigbranch asks him if he said good-bye to his family. Finleap tells Twigbranch that if she doesn't want to have kits with him, he'll leave with SkyClan to be with his kin once more.
As Leafstar decides to leave the lake, Sandynose accompanies his Clan to the gorge. During the journey, it begins to rain heavily, and Sandynose tells his Clan that StarClan knew the rain would happen. However, as it rains more heavy, Twigbranch brings cats from all of the Clans, including Tree and Finleap, to bring SkyClan home and help rescue them during the flooding. Finleap later tells Twigbranch that he isn't going to rejoin SkyClan to be with his kin, stating that he's going to stay in ThunderClan with the dark gray she-cat. Sandynose hunts with Tree and Macgyver, bringing a pigeon in his mouth to their temporary camp, and he accompanies the Clan cats and SkyClan back to the lake.

In The Broken Code arc[]

The Silent Thaw[]

Sandynose attends a Gathering and sits next to Plumwillow and agrees that StarClan's silence must mean nothing is wrong.

Veil of Shadows[]

During a Clan meeting, Sandynose and Plumwillow agree with Bramblestar's impostor that SkyClan should exile the codebreakers in order to appease StarClan. Leafstar explains she is hesitant to confront Bramblestar as it might mean war, and Sandynose yowls that they should do that, while Plumwillow gives him an irritated shove. He and Sagenose later doubt the existence of Bramblestar's ghost when Rootpaw and Tree attempt to summon him. During a devastating battle against ThunderClan, WindClan, and RiverClan, Sandynose dies alongside many others, and Rootspring later sees their ghosts, including Sandynose's, at the Gathering, unable to reach StarClan.

Darkness Within[]

On their way to a Gathering, Sandynose is mentioned by his Clanmates. Violetshine mentions that his mate, Plumwillow, has hardly slept since he died, and Hawkwing, Dewspring, and Reedclaw, dip their heads low, remembering him. Tree adds that he misses Sandynose, though this is a surprise by Rootspring. Violetshine puts in that the Clan is strange without him, and Tree says he can't believe any cat died. While Tree and Violetshine speak about why warriors fought on the side of the impostor, Palesky growls that the vigil at the Gathering is a sign of forgiveness, and Sagenose states that it would take more than a vigil to forget that Sandynose was killed by warriors for the sake of Bramblestar's impostor. After the vigil, Rootspring and Tree discover Cheddar's ghost who has seen Sandynose's spirit, among others, scared and in pain.

The Place of No Stars[]

Sandynose is now a possessed spirit under Ashfur's control trapped in the Dark Forest. When Rootspring first spots the island Ashfur is keeping the spirits imprisoned, he shouts out Sandynose's name, but gets an earful from Willowshine, who asks him if he wants Ashfur hearing them. When Ashfur orders his spirits to attack them, Rootspring attempts to call for Sandynose, but his former Clanmate is under Ashfur's rule.

A Light in the Mist[]

Rootspring hears Sandynose's voice commanding Snowtuft to kill the yellow warrior, causing Rootspring to lose focus and wonder how Sandynose could say such a thing after patrolling with him for many moons. Spotting the ghost's face, Rootspring could see the hatred that was present there.

In the Super Editions[]

Hawkwing's Journey[]

Sandynose, Sagenose, Tinycloud, and Firefern all gather around Duskpaw as he lays dying from inhaling too much smoke. Later, he informs a newly named Hawkwing and Blossomheart that their vigil is over, and he lets them know that Leafstar called a Clan meeting. Echosong reveals to the Clan about a prophecy she received from Skystar a few days prior, which urges the SkyClan cats to find the spark that remains. Hawkwing believes this has something to do with the fire that killed Duskpaw, and Leafstar sends Sandynose, Plumwillow, and Hawkwing to check out the scene. They fail to find any evidence and conclude the prophecy must have something to do with Firestar and the other Clans.
Sandynose gently chides Hawkwing for being harsh on Darktail, who blames him for getting Billystorm killed. He protests that Hawkwing is being too harsh because Darktail wasn't Clan-born, and Bouncefire agrees, pointing out that even Firestar was a kittypet. He takes over Pebblepaw's training after Billystorm's death. Later, he goes on a patrol leaving the gorge with Darktail, Bellapaw, Mistfeather, and Rain. A few days later, Hawkwing joins him, Bouncefire, Nettlesplash, and Pebblepaw on a larger patrol due to the raccoon attacks.
During the night ambush by the rogues, Hawkwing assists Sandynose with a tabby rogue, and Sandynose thanks him. Not long after, Sandynose guides Plumwillow, who is expecting his kits, to the nursery. He disappears during the fight when SkyClan retreats. His apprentice is given her warrior name, Pebbleshine. During the Clan's exile, the entire Clan took care of Plumwillow, who was grieving the loss of her mate. When she begins kitting, Hawkwing encourages her to stay strong for Sandynose. Plumwillow eventually gives birth to Reedkit, Dewkit, and Finkit. Finkit bears a striking resemblance to his father, looking like an exact copy. Hawkwing becomes an adoptive father to Plumwillow's kits.
Moons later, Sandynose and Fallowfern suddenly arrive at SkyClan's temporary camp. Sandynose explains to the Clan their long journey: Twolegs had captured them into their den. They escaped and discovered the gorge covered with rogues, so they went to find Ebonyclaw. She told them to seek out Barley's farm. Upon arriving, they had found Cherrytail and Cloudmist, who opted to remain at the barn with Barley. They pointed the two cats where SkyClan had gone, and the two SkyClan cats followed their directions.
They soon discover a lake, and meet a kittypet named Max. He tells them about the cats living there, and Sandynose is ecstatic to reunite with his Clan, Plumwillow, and their kits. Plumwillow reveals that Hawkwing assisted her with the kits, and Sandynose is uneasy at first. She reassures him that they were only friends, and Sandynose thanks Hawkwing for taking care of his family. Leafstar and Echosong catch the two cats up to date with their journey, and the rest of the Clan is given new hope that they will find a new home.
Sandynose invites Hawkwing to play with him and his kits. The kits clamber over Hawkwing like they used to, and Sandynose is hurt by their closeness. Hawkwing leaves the kits so they could bond with their father. That night, the kits beg Hawkwing to send Sandynose away, since he is the deputy. Hawkwing says he can't do that, and tells the kits to give Sandynose a chance to bond with them. The kits begin to bond with their father after their apprentice ceremonies.
In the comic, Sandynose takes his kits on a hunting patrol, and Hawkwing reflects how close the three have gotten to their real father than himself. Sandynose asks Leafstar if they have a clear destination during their journey, and Leafstar tells him to have faith since StarClan will lead them.

Tigerheart's Shadow[]

Sandynose stands on the ShadowClan-SkyClan border with Rabbitleap as he greets Tigerheart. Their fur is ruffled but their eyes are bright as Sandynose's flanks heave. He glances at a pine tree trunk beside him, commenting the squirrels in this forest are fast. Rabbitleap comments that he hopes Tigerheart are having better luck than him and Sandynose. A ShadowClan patrol chases a rabbit over the border a tail-length from Sandynose. He rushes after it, fur bristling in excitement with Rabbitleap running after him. Tigerheart admits that he missed the rabbit because he was talking to Sandynose and Rabbitleap before the tom's appear at the border again, rabbit dangling in Sandynose’s jaws. Snowbird asks if they have come to gloat, but Sandynose throws the rabbit down the slope. He glares haughtily at Snowbird, explaining they are returning it. However, Snowbird snaps they don't need them to hunt for them. They take it, and Grassheart comments that it is kind of them to return it. Without another word, the SkyClan cats leave the border. Snowbird comments they are as smug as ThunderClan, but Grassheart points out that they were generous. Tigerheart agrees they are lucky to have honorable warriors close by.
When Plumwillow catches a rabbit on ShadowClan territory, she points out that Sandynose and Rabbitleap caught them a rabbit on SkyClan land, and ShadowClan took it away since it came from their territory. Juniperclaw replies if they want to give away food, it is up to them. Tigerheart protests that ShadowClan owes SkyClan for the prey Sandynose and Rabbitleap gave them. While arguing with Rowanstar about letting Plumwillow have the rabbit, Tigerheart asks about the food Sandynose gave them a quarter moon ago. When a ShadowClan battle patrol races to SkyClan, Sandynose exits SkyClan camp after Leafstar, stopping and staring quizzically at the ShadowClan cats.

Squirrelflight's Hope[]

At a Gathering, Sandynose sits next to Macgyver. He helps to build new dens for the Clan's new camp and later shares a rabbit with Leafstar and Harrybrook.

In the SkyClan and the Stranger arc[]

The Rescue[]

Sandypaw, along with his littermates, Birdpaw, and Honeypaw, are shown as young apprentices of SkyClan. It's mentioned by Leafstar that they are the kits of Clovertail, one of the SkyClan queens, and Patchfoot. Sandypaw and the other apprentices train with Rabbitleap, one of the younger warriors of SkyClan. He tries to teach the apprentices how to jump higher, and although they are warned by their mother about jumping around, Birdpaw ends up getting hurt. After this, Sharpclaw sends the younger cats to work on apprentice tasks instead.
While Leafstar and Harveymoon are out on a walk, they run into Nettlesplash and Sandypaw. The two are found out to be eating on patrol, and Leafstar punishes them by sending them to care for Lichenfur by checking her pelt for ticks. Sandypaw is also one of the cats that sneaks out of camp with Nettlesplash and the others, but soon regrets it. He wants to tell another cat, Tinycloud, but is reprimanded by Birdpaw and the others, who tell her that it's a secret. When Leafstar lectures the other cats during a[Gathering about taking food from Twolegs, Sandypaw gives a mocking glance to Birdpaw, who looks down in shame.

Beyond the Code[]

Sandypaw sits with Honeypaw and Birdpaw during SkyClan's night Gathering. Along with the rest of SkyClan, Sandypaw sits vigil for Lichenfur, who was killed during the flood.

After the Flood[]

Sandypaw is with Clovertail, Birdpaw, and Honeypaw when they gather around to greet Patchfoot, Fallowfern, and Petalnose. The three were contemplating leaving SkyClan, but decided they belonged in SkyClan during the attack from the rogues.
