"My littermates said I was too small…too weak. But I have proven them wrong. I've learned how to be strong…how to live for blood. Because that's the key. The only answer. I am leader of BloodClan. I am Scourge. And I have won!"
— Scourge thinking about his victory over Tigerstar in The Rise of Scourge, page 82

Scourge is a small black tom with one white paw,[1] ice-blue eyes,[5] glossy fur,[6] and a torn left ear.[7] He has a purple[8] collar studded with teeth from dogs and cats,[9] and claws reinforced with dogs' teeth.[10]

Scourge was the founder and the first leader of BloodClan. He was born as Tiny to Quince and Jake along with his siblings, Socks and Ruby, as a kittypet. After a run-in with Tigerpaw that nearly killed him, Tiny fled to the Twolegplace. He attempted to break free of his collar with a dog's tooth, which became embedded in his collar and resulted in him lying about killing a dog to gain the respect of the Twolegplace cats. He renamed himself Scourge, and rose as their leader.

Moons later, Tigerstar came to BloodClan with an offer to Scourge in exchange for territory. Scourge agreed, but withdrew his cats from the potential fight with the Clans after learning of Tigerstar's treachery. In retaliation, Scourge murdered Tigerstar when he attacked, and aspired to conquer the forest for his own gain. Scourge was killed in battle by Firestar after the ThunderClan leader was revived. With their leader dead, BloodClan retreated, and was reduced to only a memory among the forest cats.

The Prophecies Begin

"You see what happens to cats who defy BloodClan? Your friend here thought he could control us. He was wrong."
―Scourge after killing Tigerstar The Darkest Hour, page 235
Scourge is recruited by Tigerstar to help the ShadowClan leader take over the Clans by force, and leads BloodClan's cats to their territories. He and BloodClan are introduced by Tigerstar to the other Clans, though Scourge's cats refuse to fight under Tigerstar's command due to their loyalty to their leader. Firestar reveals all of Tigerstar's crimes to him and the Clans, and due to this, Scourge refuses to fight until he has thought it through. Enraged, Tigerstar attacks Scourge, but the latter outmaneuvers him and rips open Tigerstar's throat, chest and stomach, causing him to lose all nine of his lives at once. He gives Firestar an ultimatum; either surrender the forest to BloodClan or fight for it. Scourge leads BloodClan against the united force of LionClan, formed from all four of the forest Clans. He takes Firestar's first life, but is then killed by the ginger tom upon his revival. With the fall of their leader, BloodClan admits defeat and retreats.

"Go home? We're not going anywhere, forest fool. In the town where we come from, there are many, many cats, and live prey is scarce. Here in the forest, we won't need to depend on Twoleg rubbish for our food. We're taking over this territory now. I shall rule the forest as well as the town. But I understand that you may need some time to reflect on this. You have three days to leave—or meet my Clan in battle. I shall wait for your decision at dawn on the fourth day."
―Scourge to the Clans Leopardstar's Honor, pages 522-523
In Leopardstar's Honor, Scourge allies BloodClan with TigerClan after Tigerstar requests his help in fighting WindClan and ThunderClan. He observes the half-Clan cats and the conflict between Tigerstar and Leopardstar with amusement. As TigerClan prepares to confront WindClan and ThunderClan at Fourtrees, BloodClan joins them. They hang back as TigerClan approaches the other two Clans, only emerging after Firestar and Tallstar refuse to join TigerClan. When Tigerstar orders BloodClan to attack, they do not, as they will only obey Scourge. Firestar explains Tigerstar's crimes, and once he finishes, Scourge decides not to fight. Outraged, Tigerstar attacks Scourge, only for Scourge to rip him from throat to tail, taking all nine of Tigerstar's lives at once. Scourge warns the Clans that he intends to take over the forest, giving them three days to decide whether to leave or fight. With encouragement from Mudfur, Leopardstar prepares RiverClan for battle against BloodClan.
