"Sorry! I know I talk too much but I just want to be the best apprentice. I'm so glad you're my mentor. You're the strongest cat in RiverClan, except Rippleclaw, but he's old—not an elder or anything—but you're younger and you remember what it's like to be a 'paw."
— Sedgepaw to Crookedjaw in Crookedstar's Promise, page 343-344

Sedgecreek is a pale[7] brown tabby[8] she-cat[1] with a long tail.[9]

History[]

In The Prophecies Begin arc[]

Fire and Ice[]

Although unnamed, she is part of the RiverClan patrol along with Leopardfur, Reedtail, Piketooth, Whiteclaw, and Voleclaw that attacks Fireheart, Graystripe, Onewhisker, and Deadfoot. When RiverClan attacks ThunderClan and WindClan for entering their territory, Fireheart spots a RiverClan she-cat locked in battle with Sandpaw. They roll over and over on the wet grass, twisting and tussling, clawing and spitting at each other fiercely. Fireheart realizes they are rolling towards the gorge, one roll away from falling into it. Fireheart bundles the RiverClan she-cat off Sandpaw and away from the edge of the gorge.

Crookedstar's Promise[]

«He could use all the help he could get with Sedgepaw. She had so much enthusiasm; it was painful watching her fail every task by a whisker.»
—Crookedjaw about letting Beetlenose help train Sedgepaw Crookedstar's Promise, page 348
Sedgekit is born to Timberfur and Ottersplash, along with her littermates, Loudkit and Reedkit. She receives her apprentice name, Sedgepaw, and her mentor, Crookedjaw. She seems very enthusiastic and talks a lot. Crookedjaw mentions that he wishes that he had been that eager with his former mentor, Cedarpelt. When they get ready to take the new apprentices out, Beetlenose boasts about how his apprentice, Reedpaw, would be the best warrior the Clans have ever seen, and he asks Crookedjaw if Sedgepaw would ever become a warrior. Crookedjaw says that he was simply going to train Sedgepaw the best he can.
Crookedjaw, Oakheart, and Beetlenose tour the territory with their apprentices. Hitting Crookedjaw with a flurry of questions, Sedgepaw is shown to be cheerful, eager, and full of energy. Later on, while she is training alone, Sedgepaw is able to land on a finch and kill it after other attempts have failed. Soon after, she is seen sitting in the apprentice's den, staring at the finch to see who will choose it as it is her first catch. After Crookedjaw is chosen by Hailstar to be the new deputy, she is excited to be the deputy's apprentice.
After moons of training, Sedgepaw becomes a warrior. Her warrior name is Sedgecreek, while her littermates, Loudpaw and Reedpaw, become Loudbelly and Reedtail. She is mentioned to be eager of proving that she is worthy of her full name when ThunderClan warriors cross the stepping stones. Sedgecreek takes part of the patrol that goes to collect dry bedding. On the way, they encounter a Twoleg barn, where rats appear and battle the bedding patrol. Her leg gets injured by a rat. Crookedjaw sees this and fusses over her, but Brambleberry pushes him away and asks for cobwebs. Rippleclaw and Timberfur go to gather them, but Owlfur's news of Hailstar distracts them and when he dies, she grieves with the rest of the Clan.

Leopardstar's Honor[]

Sedgekit plays hide-and-seek with the rest of the kits, though her brothers Reedkit and Loudkit defend her when Leopardkit implies she doesn't always follow the rules. Sedgekit decides to be the hunter and questions her mother Ottersplash and Lakeshine when she scents Leopardkit hiding nearby. Sedgekit finds Leopardkit hiding behind the two queens and gives chase, though she accuses Leopardkit of cheating when she catches a ride on Crookedjaw's large back. Sedgekit finds the other kits and the game resumes. Later, Sedgepaw and the other apprentices agree to wait to receive their warrior names until Skypaw passes her assessment. She is later named Sedgecreek.
Sedgecreek, Petaldust, and Leopardfur help repair the nursery. Hailstar comes up with an idea to fetch fresh bedding from the nearby barn and brings Crookedjaw, Petaldust, Sedgecreek, and Leopardfur with him. However, they are attacked by rats and both Sedgecreek and Hailstar are gravely injured. While Brambleberry struggles to treat Sedgecreek's injuries, Hailstar dies. After Oakheart's death, Leopardfur begins to organize the patrols and calls for Softwing to lead Sedgecreek, Shimmerpelt, Mallowtail, and Dawnbright. When Leopardfur is named Crookedstar's new deputy, Sedgecreek and her former denmates cheer for her. She later orders Sedgecreek to join Rippleclaw and Lakeshine to track a nearby fox.
After WindClan's exile, Leopardfur leads Sedgecreek, Blackclaw, Frogleap, Beetlenose, Whiteclaw, and Heavypaw to hunt on the moor, and she comforts Heavypaw when he frets about hawks. While hunting near the gorge, Leopardfur, Sedgecreek, Whiteclaw, Voleclaw, Reedtail, and Piketooth encounter a ThunderClan and WindClan patrol trespassing. Whiteclaw launches the attack and Sedgecreek attacks Onewhisker. She narrowly falls into the gorge until Leopardfur drags her back. However, a ThunderClan patrol arrives to help and Sedgecreek is driven back by Onewhisker and Sandpaw. Sedgecreek later falls ill to a sickness along with Mallowtail, Shadepelt, and Tanglewhisker that later claims the life of the elder.
Sedgecreek escorts Tallstar and Stagleap into camp with Beetlenose and Reedtail, and Sedgecreek fetches Crookedstar. After Silverstream's death, Sedgecreek advocates for her kits Featherkit and Stormkit to be allowed into the Clan despite their half-Clan heritage. During a hunting patrol, Sedgecreek, Leopardstar, and Blackclaw discover the river has frozen early in leaf-bare. With a shortage of prey, Leopardstar confers with Stonefur, Blackclaw, Ottersplash, and Sedgecreek about hunting in ThunderClan's territory. Now under TigerClan, Sedgecreek participates in an attack on WindClan's camp to coerce them to join TigerClan. She and Vixenleap become injured and have to stay in Mudfur's den for a while to heal. Sedgecreek later witnesses Tigerstar's gruesome death and she and Reedtail stand in front of the apprentices to block their view of his body.

Trivia[]

Mistakes[]

  • In Crookedstar's Promise, it is said that Leopardstar's generation, including Sedgecreek, all decided to wait until Leopardkit reached her sixth moon before they were all apprenticed,[8] but in Leopardstar's Honor, Leopardkit was apprenticed early at five moons old.[12]
