"As she and her mentor headed back to camp, a warm glow was swelling in Frostpaw's chest and belly. It had been hard to decide on becoming a warrior apprentice after training so long with Mothwing. The easier path would have been to follow in Mothwing's paw steps and continue to serve her Clan as a healer, even without communicating with StarClan. But now she knew that the reward was worth the risk; admitting she wasn't a real medicine cat, and starting her warrior training, was the best decision she'd ever made. Good things happened when she was assertive, and she felt more confident than ever before." |

Chapter description[]
- Frostpaw and Harelight are beginning battle training, and Harelight wants to teach her how to recover from being taken down. He tells her to demonstrate how she will fight back, taking her to the ground. Frostpaw attempts to push back but struggles, and he advises that she is wasting her energy. Instead, he says that she should use her opponent's momentum, and he demonstrates by using Frostpaw's momentum in her attack to cause her to fall over him after he hits the ground. She masters the move after a while, remarking that fighting is easy, and she is eager to work toward becoming skilled. When the two head back to camp, Frostpaw reflects on her training, believing that her decision to train to be a warrior instead of a medicine cat had been right for her.
- Harelight tells her to rest, but instead, Frostpaw sees Splashtail by the Highstump and, not wanting to let him avoid her anymore, she startles him awake. He warns her against sneaking up on cats, but Frostpaw confidently argues that, now that she is being trained as a warrior, she knows how to avoid getting hurt. With a surge of determination and bravery, Frostpaw reveals her feelings for Splashtail, asking him to be mates. He hesitates to answer before admitting that he still views her as a medicine cat, and reminds her that she is not yet a full-grown warrior. He advises that they wait until RiverClan's leader problem is resolved before considering the future. Frostpaw agrees, feeling embarrassed, and heads to the apprentices' den, uncertain about Splashtail's response.
