Chapter description[]
- At the pool where she had hunted with Splashtail, Frostpaw fishes with Harelight, frustrated with her failure to catch a fish. As she peers into the water, she suddenly finds herself in a vision, watching through someone else's view. The cat approaches the ravine, where Frostpaw sees Reedwhisker hunting before the unknown cat attacks him. She notices that Reedwhisker is hesitant to harm his attacker before he is pushed off the edge of the ravine, and Frostpaw sees his body below, realizing that he was murdered. Reedwhisker comes to Frostpaw and warns her of a darkness within RiverClan, and she is brought back to reality. As Harelight scolds her for missing a fish, she ponders the vision and wonders if Curlfeather was murdered.
- Frostpaw tells Harelight that she must see Mothwing and leaves, wondering if it is wise to tell anyone when she is not sure that the vision is real. She reaches the medicine den, where Mothwing is tending to Mallownose's injury. Once Mallownose departs, Frostpaw reports a bellyache to an unfriendly Mothwing, who gives her watermint. Frostpaw asks her about Reedwhisker's injuries, but Mothwing tells her not to worry about the past, as Reedwhisker is dead and cannot lead them. She says that the medicine cats received no information from StarClan except that ShadowClan should not be occupying RiverClan. Mothwing sends Frostpaw away, with Frostpaw worrying about who she can trust.
