"I'm sure it was a real vision this time. Now that I've had one, I'm more certain than ever that the others weren't real. This was so much clearer; I was actually there when Reedwhisker was killed."

Chapter description[]

Frostpaw worries over her vision, listing off Clanmates who could have murdered him. She snaps out of it when Harelight scolds her for missing a mouse, and she attempts to focus on the hunting patrol. She manages to catch a vole and the patrol heads home with their prey. The sound of screeching causes them to hurry to camp, where they find Scorchfur writhing in pain. Shimmerpelt reports that a thorn had been in the prey he was eating, to the approval of Duskfur and Brackenpelt, who will not allow Mothwing to treat him. Frostpaw removes the thorn from Scorchfur's mouth, and Mothwing takes him to the medicine den. Cloverfoot speaks with Icewing, and the two she-cats agree that there are RiverClan cats plotting against ShadowClan.
Burying the thorn, Frostpaw again wonders if she should report her vision, and she decides to tell Splashtail, trusting him. She describes her vision to him, and he is in disbelief, asking if she recognized the features of the cat she had been inside. When she suggests that the attacker could have been a Clanmate, he doubts this notion and reminds her of her false visions. He points out that the Clan may not believe her, to which she agrees. Splashtail then recommends that she speak with a cat who has experience with visions, and Frostpaw decides to go to Whistlepaw, who will not feel obligated to tell their leaders. She says that, if Whistlepaw believes the vision is real, then she will tell RiverClan, and Splashtail warns her to be cautious.
