Chapter description[]
- At moonhigh, Frostpaw sneaks past Minnowtail out of camp and makes her way toward WindClan territory, attempting to use a log to cross the stream. Unable to see well, she slips into the stream and briefly hides after, checking for her Clanmates. She pauses to groom, reflecting on the importance of keeping her vision a secret, until she hears a sound. Seeing nothing, she dismisses it and continues her journey, reaching the horseplace, where she flees from a horse. She cautiously crosses a Thunderpath, shaking off memories of Mothwing and Curlfeather, and hears another sound, though she again finds nothing. Carefully, she begins to cross WindClan territory, trying to hurry due to the lack of cover. In her haste, Frostpaw dislodges a stone and attracts the attention of a WindClan patrol led by Breezepelt.
- Realizing that she is at risk as a warrior apprentice and not wanting to explain herself, Frostpaw calms herself and does her best to hide until Breezepelt's patrol leaves. She finally reaches WindClan camp, feeling excited, when she is distracted by a patch of thyme. As she is about to approach the camp, Frostpaw hears pawsteps again and is suddenly grabbed, and she feels pain in her throat and chokes, collapsing into the thyme. She recalls Curlfeather's words to trust no one, but her strength ebbs as her attacker flees, and she faints.
